Gaining Lean vs Bulking: How to Prove It

Sounds like you have an ectomorphic build (like myself). But, look on the positive side. Although the Endomorphs/Mesomorphs may poke fun, you could have the last laugh:

When you bulk up, fat is easier to loose than other body types!

If you’re like me, you won’t even need to do cardio when dieting!

You can “get away with” eating “unclean” and still not put on much body fat. Take advantage of this and bulk, bulk and bulk. It doesn’t matter whether you’re getting in a lot of saturated fat, if it’s only for about 3 months then it’s not going to have much affect on your health. While you’re bulking, worry about getting in calories, while your dieting, worry about nutrition.

Just do not worry about loosing the six pack, as fast as it goes will be as fast as you can get it back…but worry about gaining size first before you worry about getting back down to single digit BF % levels.

I personally love it everytime a thread like this pops up and the guys who have put in the dedication and gotten the big pay off come in pretty much backing me up and re-assuring me that what I’m doing is the right way to do it. God knows its hard to get any encouragement from people in the real world, everyone is so damn negative about getting big. lol

Yeah tell me about it. All I ever get from my family/friends is: “You don’t need to get any bigger”

Shut up! lol

6 months later and everyone’s like: “Wow, you’ve gained a lot of weight!”

I get this customer who’s a regular in my shop and he always says “you’re packing on the beef Paul!”, I can’t explain how good that makes you feel.

just want to say, that i started at about 130, currently 185.

I didn’t start growing until i took the whole chicken and rice with steamed veggies mentality out the window.

gotta hit up the fatty beef, hamburgers on the bbq, whole eggs. eggs eggs eggs. fucking cartons of egg beaters, bag of potato chips (yes i said it) steaks, whole milk. fast food. gainers, etc.

i say on the scale of 1 being perfectly clean, and 10 eating just tons of junk food. you need to be about a 6.

200lbs here i come

I’m with you man, I started at 190lbs skinny fat and did the stupid cardio and diet only down to 140lbs. I’m now 187lbs and I could be alot bigger by now if I had adapted my current methods of thinking a long time ago.

I know only a few people in real life that encourage me, but one of them has been a very big inspiration for me. He constantly encourages me, and hes actually training to compete in powerlifting himself.

edit: haha come to think of it, when I was wanting to focus on “leaning out” he called me a pussy and told me to keep eating.

For me… i would be around a 4… but i totally agree… for the skinny starters, ya gotta eat that crap! its kinda a blessing once you learn that - shame i wasted 5 years trying to eat clean.

Damn you Flex magazine… ;D

I’d say I probably eat around a 4 also. I do make sure I get a miniumum of 4000cals a day though, seem to be averaging around 4500.

The bigger question is what the fuck is a 130 lber doing dieting for a contest (unless you are under 5 ft tall or a female), what the hell are you doing?

Also, why in the fuck are you giving advice?? I’m curious as to what makes you think you are qualified or could possibly “know your body” as you put it.

i have to make weight for a rowing contest iam 5’10. and iam giving advice because i took my body from a fat ass 200lb at 22% bf to 140 with 13%bf then back to 166 with 11% bf. [/quote]

Are you on “The Machinist diet”?

Sad…when you run the numbers you will realize you LOST quite a bit of muscle mass.

156 LBM starting at 200 22% bf
147.7 LBM ending at 166 11% bf

Also, how the hell do you know that your bones are hollow??? Did you cut yourself open? and look inside your bones?

The things you say really make you come off like you have no idea what you are talking about. Just saying.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but I just find it funny that you are giving “bulking” advice or “lean muscle gaining” advice, when actually you have gained nothing, no muscle whatsoever. In fact you have lost muscle.

Again, not to be a dick, but you could learn alot here.
There are many knowledgeable people here that are much farther along than you and me for that matter. So let’s let people who actually know what they are talking about speak.

hey “its just me” iam actually and endo/ meso type i just lost weight. believe me i eat alot but i burn up alot also the ergometer kills my gains. i also don’t care about junk food i down bigmacs atleat 3 days a week.

greekdawg yes i lost size , rowing is cardio picture ur self in a boat everyday rowing for 6-8 kms , doing high intensity work on the ergometer after it , running 6-12 kms -varies on the day- every other day and then doing pushups and pullups squats and cleans every day from 5:30 am to 9-10 am , and tell me u can’t lose muscle mass , top that off with the fact that u had no idea whatsoever about correct dietary habbits and u thought cereal was healthy. i made progress only when i realized how my body responds to certain foods and that took time, thats what i was offering to the OP my own experience . i was giving an example on how i progressed. and i checked the thread later to see other people’s experience instead i found flaming from guys who probably have a keg and are convinced that they’re bulking.

Whatever dyskee, worry about your rowing…maybe go to rowing website and dole out advice.

But stop typing like an uneducated twatplug. Form a goddamn sentence if you are going to provide useless information.

We get it, you row, you look like you row. You barely lift weights, you don’t look like you lift weights. Congrats. Row away, watch the big macs, gotta meet your weight class.

Dumbass.

Why the fuck would someone like this even feel the need to give advice on a bodybuilding board?

Was this a joke?

I don’t go to rowing message boards and start talking about gaining muscle mass and wearing 3XL shirts.

For those of you that had no idea whatsover, this is a habbit.

Well…maybe you should?

It would be pretty interesting to go on some rock-climbing or combat endurance message boards and start degrading people for how their routines will never come close to adding 100 pounds of muscle to their frame.

No, no…

Go here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/

and degrade people for how their 4" pattern stitches will NEVER add muscle. Tell them how small they look under their quilts. Belittle their bobbin sizes.

Make sure you post of pic of you eating a quilt while curling a sewing machine.

The revenge-seeker in me would LOVE to see that happen.

You just KNOW they’d freak.

Can we get back to the “hollow bones” comment?

I’m PRAYING/hoping that the hollow bones comment was a joke, lol.

LOL. That was my point exactly. I’m no where near humongous, but it looks like I actually lift weights and have been in a gym before. Yet, I rarely give out advice on here at all. I don’t think it is my place and there are probably far more advanced guys that can instead of me.

So I find it funny that he would. The word humility comes to mind.

I don’t understand why half the people here don’t want to gain any muscle at all yet post here.
