What about a 1000lb sumo pull?

That depends. What’s the WR for sumo?
- 909.4 (412.5) *3.17X 308 (140) Maxim Podtynny (Russia/72) 12/10/01 (412.5 kg. @ 130.0 kg. Heaviest sumo deadlift of all time.) (Nyagan, Russia) (IPF) - from www.powerliftingwatch.com
I too think that Reza has the ability to C&J 600, but his competition isn’t on par for that - he hardly will need WR to get the gold in Beijing.
But 1500 squat… this looks far, far away.
if sumo plateaus before conventional why do ppl use it? seems like if conventinal has more room for getting bigger and stronger on it eventually why not just stick with that?
600lb C&J will probably never happen. We aren’t in the “juiced to the eyeballs and no one cares” era anymore. Same goes for the 500lb snatch.
I think people are over-estimating how well Reza will perform in Beijing. The guy’s not competed since December 2006 when he did 195/230, and has been out injured for the last year. If you look at his lifting history he’s been doing pretty much the same for the past 8 or 9 years. I don’t see him suddenly putting in this massive surge this late into his career.
There will be no mysterious Chinese SHW in Beijing.

Wait… sumo plateaus before conventional?

Because some people just get better numbers doing sumo, just because Bolton is a Forklift and can pull 1000+ doesn’t mean everyone who pulls conventional will get to those numbers.
I also heard people will get a lot more out of a DL suit if they pull sumo…
It’s kind of normal to assume the guys pulling sumo know that their numbers wont be higher doing conventional, because after all its not about preference, it’s about the biggest number FOR YOU, and body structure and shit like that play a big role.

Never say never! Haha…
Anyway, I think Reza’s career is nearing its twilight, but that’s not to say he ain’t what he used to be. It’s still possible for him to break a WR or 2, even without any massive surge, but his best shot at this is in Beijing.
I doubt that the 600 C&J will happen in Beijing but I’m positive it will happen some day.
People have always said that some number was impossible.
Hell at some point people probably thought a 1000 pound deadlift would never happen.
