Funky Knee Pain After Working Out

I’ve been working out steadily for a while, but every now and then my knees get tweaked. I don’t know how it initially starts…I notice the sides of my knees are in a lot of pain, throwing off my gait. When this happens, I usually ride the bike to avoid further stress to the joints. I don’t get the pain when I do squats with a bar, so I’m really not sure why this happens, unless I just have bad knees.

Does anyone have suggestions for preventing this sort of thing or any stretches/exercises I can do to increase the strength of my bum knees?

Thanks!

How much running are you doing?

You might have a tumor in your knee.

Use a foam roller and roll your hams and calves especially the posterior and slightly outer parts. (this assumes your knee pain is either above or below the knee knob in the front). Tightness in these muscles pulls your knee out of alignment when you walk. Especially true for women because of wider hip to knee angle.
