Yes 300 lbs is off, but i know nothing about the exercise as i dont do them, im not a powerlifter, and 300 lbs sounded like a big enough number to use.

didnt you say you hurt your back doing deadlifts? you know nothing about them and dont do them but you hurt yourself doing them?

I never attacked you, lol. Oh I figured out that you don’t know what you’re talking about a while ago, don’t worry about that.

No money to be made from weightlifting? That is not true. You are really showing your lack of knowledge here.

I’m pretty sure you’re trolling but again you’re showing your ignorance.

 1. I’ve never taken steroids.
 2. I’m not a bodybuilder, I just love lifting.
 3. I’ve never eaten 10 meals a day in my life.
 4. I have a career, a wife, a newborn AND I’m working on my second degree… Lifting is definitely not my top priority.

If I wore panties, which I do not, they would most definitely not be in a bunch. I could care less how average/below average you look/your lifts are. Doesn’t bother me… And yeah, bigger things are definitely happening in my life.

This is just the Internet, lighten up bud. Take a deep breath, it’s going to be ok.

Lol @ being intimated/jealous from pictures of bigger guys.

Obviously there’s a certain element of selling a fantasy here. It’s an idealized version of reality.

It’s not like I actually have a problem with any of this. I just noticed a bit of a disconnect.
I think others are again stating that the only “disconnect”…is if you really aren’t shooting for any significant goals.

That is the only way I could see a picture of a huge bodybuilder bothering someone.

I consider myself more “hardcore” than some guy who thinks you need steroids to deadlift 300lbs. I think the disconnect is that there are still too many people here with Men’s Fitness mentalities who insist on making this forum cater to them at the expense of those with more outstanding goals.

It takes a shit load of work to get really big…and clearly this pisses some people off.
the mens fitness mentality is over @ bbcom

No, it’s right here too if you think big muscles and gym time daily mean someone isn’t educated. Care to go further?

I’m a meathead. Proud to be one.

I am also betting I have done the school thang harder than you too.
Of course i dont think it means someone is uneducated, having a beer gock, to me, is uneducated in the age where you have all the info on the human condition you shouldnt be fat, unfortunately muscle beyond the reason of health is a vain glory, an empty escape where people can feel like they are making some kind of progress in life, a vain addiction that takes over people,s lives. anyone can buy a gym membership. What do you do once you have that big burly muscular body? People start lifting because they are fat, they lose some weight, look a little better, than decide to roid, and die at 55 with enlarged hearts and big organs, so they go into it for health than it kills them, the honey that attracts the fly isnt so sweet if the fly also gets stuck in it. With 42000 posts and 2002 registration you obviously have something to do with the founding of the website am i not wrong? You must dedicate hours and hours to keeping the forums alive , well i hope it worked for ya. Wouldnt be jealous even if its made you 10 million . 5 hours a day obsession about how you look is not a lifestyle. I mean… How can you relax when your biceps are missing a few sets… Omg no. I guess ill stick to mens health. More health does not = more happiness, or more intelligence, vanity is a distraction.

I have no ego, i do not pride myself in anything , life isnt a competition , well… Not when you are This intelligent.

Well, that explains why you’re here.

There are a lot of people here who are better educated AND bigger AND stronger than you. Learn some humility.

LOL. Yes, I see women with “vain addictions” all the time…in shoe stores. Clearly you feel the same about them.

If you want pictures that may be a bit graphic for this website. I will say that there are tons you can do with it…and trust me…women like being with a guy who can pick them up, flip them, slap it and lay it down.

? No offense, but you could say the same about ALL professional sports…but you aren’t for some strange reason.

Also, Arnold is over 55 now.

You seem very upset at people who try harder than you. What do you feel about the people who are doing better than you in all aspects of life AND workout daily?

Life is a competition with yourself. The person making no progress is doomed to stagnation and finally degradation. You claim you have no pride in anything…and then claim how intelligent you are.

A real smart person wouldn’t have made that mistake.

Please, bless us with your MENSA enrollment as well. That huge brain must be doing a hell of a job helping other people…right?

What do you do?

Dr Evil - After reading a few more of your replies to Prof X… I am sure that you are trolling. Well done. You got a few serious replies. Now please stop.

The most important thing I’ve learned all day is you can hurt yourself deadlifting even when you don’t deadlift.

Why do you guys continue to feed this Dr. Evil troll?

Check his profile: 6 feet, 270 pounds, 24% bodyfat.

LOL

I make money from lifting.

I am the best professional wrestler EVER

Some day all of you will buy your children shirts with my face on them…and they will say “bump in the night” until your eyes bleed

I won’t go so far as to say it’s misleading, but I do find it a bit strange.

It just feels like a heavyhanded strategy to say “we’re more hardcore, because the pictures in our article are more hardcore.” And this approach seems to undercut the actual quality of the content. They seem at cross-purposes.

For example, you have the “programs” from Men’s Health and AskMen and so on, which will never get you looking like the models they have pictured. Then you stuff here which will actually do a much better job getting you to look like a Men’s Health model, but the model pictured is often enhanced.

Granted, TNation has great content overall, and if you actually read the articles, you pretty much gloss over the images anyway.

Just an observation, not a complaint.
Let me ask you and anyone sharing the same opinion…given we have seen in the Indigo forum where the “average” lifter here stands, why would someone demand the guys used to inspire are chosen from those types of people?

Simply put, I doubt most of the people here who do follow these articles look in a way that would inspire most other trainers…so why would I want to see them more often on articles?

Most people won’t ever look like lifters with great genetics.

To even demand that they should try only declares mediocrity and claims we should aspire to it.
(I figured I should go back and answer it; I was away for a bit.)

My concern was more the relationship between the image selection and the article content. It was more a matter of instruction.

I think the photo selection is fine for inspiration; many of them are in fact quite badass. I think seeing the best of the best natural lifters, enhanced lifters, and even mythical figures/superheroes/demigods/etc. is great inspiration.

But I also think that “realistic expectations” should be addressed somewhere. For as truthful and honest as the article content is – they lack the fluff, filler and BS you find on other sites – I feel they don’t do a great job at presenting reasonable expectations/goals for a natural lifter.

Now obviously genetics is a huge component, and I’m not even going to pretend that there’s some sort of “limits” for the natural lifter. But I’d like to see more presentation of “this is the best that natural lifters have achieved so far”.

It’s much more likely to achieve a similar size as Greg Plitt as a natural lifter, than it is to achieve a similar size to Kai. Both are great inspirations, but in terms of personal goal setting, they just appeal to a different audience based on your level of commitment to the sport.

I just think that the image selection DOES tie in closely with affecting one’s perception when goal setting.
Just a little comment on this general theme –

Historically, setting the bar low in terms of inspiration does NOT improve performance, and this is true for just about any human aspiration in recorded history. Just the opposite, in fact – it generally brings the average WAY down.

The best schools will often teach using the best possible examples. A cooking school will not toss a Stouffers microwaveable side-dish on the table and say, “OK, students, you’ll be lucky if you can even manage this in your first year – after all, not everyone can be Paul Prudhomme/Gordon Ramsay/Wolfgang Puck/Mario Battali/whomever.”

Creative writing programs in universities study the art of the absolute best – not random clippings from Reader’s Digest and a few Yahoo bloggers.

Architecture schools study Jean Nouvel and Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry, not some schmo that designed the local strip mall using a home design program on his Mac.

In all of the above cases, almost none of the students will ever achieve any level of renown. It doesn’t mean that inspiration from excellence is a bad technique.

And it’s a hell of a lot better than constantly repeating, “Hey, you’re probably strictly average, so let’s not aim too high, eh?”

Good post, new guy!
