Wow you need to post the pic when you will finish dieting down. With your crazy numbers I can’t imagine how you will look.
BTW, what are your raw PR ?
i still have A LOT to do in powerlifting. when i’ve achieved my goals there…i’ll give bodybuilding a go again.
are you talking powerlifting numbers??
yes
What are your goals?
i want to total equipped elite as a raw lifter in the 275. that would take a 1940 total.
I’d like to see you enter and win some national level equipped competitions sans gear. Just to piss off all the gear whores.
About what is your total now/ what was it pre-injury?
as you know… the SPF’s flights mix geared with raw lifts. the flights are just based on the amount of the opening lifts. i like watching guys tug, pull and twist those bench shirts as they are waiting to bench. i just pull my singlet straps up over my tshirt:)
at my best i’ve put up a raw 530 bench with a pause, raw 705 squat
I hate you. May the wicked smith-machine of death mess up your squat-technique and that of your children!
and raw 700 deadlift
Conv/Sumo?
. so… i feel i’ve been close. i’ve been back hitting it healthy for about 4 months now and i’m sitting at a low to mid 1800 total right now. i just hit a 655 raw squat yesterday and i still had a good bit left in the tank. my bench is feeling really good… definitely 500-510… or so. deadlift is about 675 right now.
thanks hoss!

Wait, what was that injury again?
Have a swift recovery, brother.

Meat it would kick ass if you detailed your contest prep if/when you decide to do the competition in the future.
when i do it, it will definitely be different from the way i used to do it.

Care to elaborate? I’m sure quite a few people would be interested in hearing what you did, how it was successful and how it wasn’t, and what you would change about your old contest prep.
I definitely would.

no. but i’ve never posted any pics before on T-Nation. “the older person” comment didn’t make sense to me. you meant older than a teen. i get it now.

You still gonna let me train with you if you switch to bodybuilding!? Me putting on some size would probably help me out in powerlifting a lot in the long run, heh. I look so lanky standing next to you. ![]()

i’m definitely good for a very deep and clean 675 right now. from now until my comp, i’m going to just work with 585 for reps. i would like to hit 585 for 10 deep reps by october.
thanks hoss.

I was just really too strict on myself and took in way too few calories. i got lean but at the cost of lean mass. i lived off of skinless chicken and fiberous veggies like calliflower and broccoli and water.
i’m not sure what i would do now since i have no idea how my body is going to react to dieting down but i’ll let you know. what i do know is that i will give myself at least 6 months to prepare. i’ll do it very very slowly and do A LOT more research this time around.

i pulled 700 sumo but i’ve almost pulled that much conventional as well. for my t-rex arms i prefer sumo though.
as for injuries i tore my adductor really bad. at first i thought i was going to have to have surgery but luckily after a short YEAR I was back training heavy. i also tore my pec and oblique in a meet.
here’s a pic of the adductor tear when i finally made it home after the gym. i strained it doing high step ups to a bench a week previous and then it tore when i was attempting a 655 squat. i was decending and felt it tear. as i dropped it continued to tear. it sounded just like if you were to take a tshirt and rip it in half.
this pic, like i said, is right after. within two days the blood had pooled into my feet and my entire leg was black, blue, yellow and purple.

here’s a vid that shows the pec and oblique after the tears in a comp. i say adductorinstead of oblique in the vid… i guess the adductor tear was still on my mind:)
Damn. Now that you’re in your 40s, do you worry about doing too much weight to avoid injuries like that?
forlife wrote:
Damn. Now that you’re in your 40s, do you worry about doing too much weight to avoid injuries like that?
i’m not quit in my 40’s yet. i’m 37. all my injuries have come from lack of recovery time or doing something stupid, lik high step ups… not from heavy weight. I plan to keep getting stronger throughout the rest of my 30’s and 40’s.
if i let myself worry about injuries or about how heavy a weight is, then i definitely picked the wrong sport. i feel better now than i’ve ever felt. joints are perfect and no aches or pains.
That’s good to hear, best of luck man.
Do you think those muscle tears are going to affect your appearance significantly when you do a bodybuilding show?
