Great work in here LS.

How do you manage the board presses when training alone?

and how thick are the boards?
LittleStrick wrote:
Yep. I knew they would all show up…lol.

I put my head on the end with the 2 legs. Never had a single wobble.
That’s what I would try first…

What made your decision between this one and the less expensive one?

Well…I figured that I would eventually get to where I was putting 500# or more on the bar (for lockouts). Add in my body weight and I could very well have around 800# on the bench. So I called them and asked them what it would hold. They said that it was good for 1000#, no problem. Decision was made

I’m one of those guys who thinks that, if a hand grenade will do the job, go ahead and drop a bomb, just to be sure. Better to much than too little.

Actually, I don’t. Well, if you consider my wife being there to assist to not be training alone.
Some folks use ace bandages to hold the board in place. I use my wife. If she isn’t available, I don’t do them. One of the benefits to not having a program and playing it by ear.
She won’t workout with me, but she does like being in there when I am working out. Not quite as good, but I will take it.

I use 2x6’s. I thought about 2x4’s, since I had some, but decided that they were too narrow and would probably hurt like hell.

Military Day -

Not a good day. I felt weak, fatigued, joints ached and my left shoulder started acting up again. The shoulder always nags, but it occasionally flares. Seems to be the case.

As for the other stuff, my suspicion it is because I upped my thyroid med. Doc said I was at a good place but we might be able to “improve” on it, if my body would tolerate the higher dose.
Some of the symptoms of too much med (hyperthyroidism) are muscle weakness, achy joints, heart palpitations, sweating…check, check, check and check.
I am going back to my old dose.

Military Press
barx20
95x10
135x8
170x3
205x3
225x5
245x1 - heavy as hell

BB Shrugs
225x20x3

I think I am going to seriously TRY to make myself deload next week, at least 2 days :).
Also, I am very interested in Brett’s take on the daily maxing. I am contemplating how I might try that.

That sucks about the new dose of medication. I hope reverting back to the old dose does the trick. You been pressing heavy so often a deload may be in order.

My coach wears a tight shirt and just puts the boards under his shirt before he lifts off. Seems to work for him.

Sir could you slow down on the Millies ?

No worries, bulldog. I haven’t gone up in a few weeks. Also, I figured out what that weird feeling in the front of my left shoulder is/was. I noticed it during rows, Tuesday, and again Thursday. It is my flippin’ bicep tendon sliding in and out of groove. Now it is irritated and achy. Not sure why it happens sometimes, and not others, when I am doing the same exercises…but it has. It isn’t too bad, but a discomfort that has lingered for over 2 years now…coming, but never completely going.

Hopefully bench won’t aggravate it even more.

LS- do you have a “deep tissue” guy near you? They may be able to balance things out in there so that tendon stays where it should.

Steely, I have no idea. I live about 5 minutes from OKC. You would think that such a large city would have at least one. Of course, this is OK we are talking about
I will check around. Thanks for the idea.

Is there a college nearby with any sports teams? They might have a local person on contract.

I agree maybe with this. I usually deload every 5th week after I test my maxes. Gives my body a good rest. However I’m sure (though hope not) that your shoulder issues are more deepr than a deload.

I will actually shove the boards under my shirts. It works quite well, at least for me.

Any colleges? Steely! Shame on you. I live 5 miles from Norman, OK. I used to live in Norman. There is this small time football school here. I think their mascot is the Sooners

Not that I am a fan. But if you ask anyone here, the college football world revolves around this place.

Scott, you are correct. When this issue 1st reared its head, I hadn’t bought my olympic weights yet. I was doing seated OHP with 65# DBs. Out of nowhere I felt something shift. 1st time that had ever happened and it hasn’t completely gone away since.
Sucks getting old

Decided to deload today. Just not feeling it.

Bench
bar20x2
95x10
135x8
185x5
225x3
265x3
300x2
330x2

Tricep Pushdowns - just to loosen the elbow
50x25x2

Face Pulls
70x20x2

Now wrapping presents…

deload… just not feeling it… bench 330x2… shit

Thanks, soldog. More like a deload because I didn’t go over 330#, didn’t do any more reps at or above 300# and no board Presses. Kind of like Thursday. I did 1 rep at 245# and called it, rather than 2 or 3 more sets.

Really feeling beaten up and out of it this morning. Could be because of all the stuff I took before going to bed, though.

Took the kids to Chickasha, Saturday night. They have a pretty good festival of lights in a park. Other than the 20-25 mph gusts, while it was 39 degrees, the kids had a good time.

All the presents are finally wrapped and under the tree. Kids are in Christmas mode. It will be a Christmas miracle if a present doesn’t get opened early. By accident, of course.

I have to agree with the dog, thats some deload.

I haven’t even started shopping though really the only “important” presents I have to buy are for the wife.
