Goals for the coming year (next 4/20, not 12/31)…
Military Press - 285#, 275#x2
Bench Press - 405#, 315#x8, 365#x4
Strick- Look familiar? these were your goals from last 4/20…and look where you are today!! There or almost there and way ahead on the timeline…Outstanding work!!
Actually, I had forgotten all about those. Thanks for the reminder!
I think the Military Press number is doable and more.
The bench press, however, is still going to be a long shot. Only 35# to go, but they go sooooo slow.
4 1/2 months to go!
I hit my squat number way too early, but my bench kind of languished. I’m calculating at about 365, but I don’t give the calc too much credit. I’m trying to sneak up on it and will maybe do a max attempt last week of December so I don’t get too depressed for Christmas
Null - you are so right. No popping, tearing, grinding, etc… is a very good lift.
The weight is improving. I will feel so much better about it when my bench starts with a 4 and my millies a 3.
Steely - the calcs are good for some lifts and off on others…at least for me. My calculated max on 340x4 is 380#. I think that is close to right. Watching your bench numbers, I don’t think that your extimated max is too far off on your actual max. I think the key is whether or not you can take the brakes off and hit the attempt at full tilt.
I have problems with that. With my left shoulder perpetually tweaking and my left elbow still bitching, I tend to not be quite as explosive on maximal lifts. I am aware that I am feeling out my shoulder and elbow from the unracking and through the descent, instead of welling up my piss and vinegar to erupt once it hits my chest.
Kind of a strange workout. I was mildly anxious over the workout, given the previous week’s blah performance and the fact that I could still feel fatigue in my front delts and tris, from Sunday’s bench workout.
The bar felt heavy. 95# felt heavy. 135# felt heavy. 250# felt surprising manageable. Not sure what switch was flipped, but it was nice.
I think that I could have had 5 at 250#. The 4th rep got a bit away from me, to the rear, though…and wiped me. Can’t really see it, but I thought I had pulled something on the right side, in my chest, trying to stabilize it. No discomfort now, though.
Jack, it does seem to be moving in the right direction. I just hope it keeps it up.
Funny thing is, I have no plan. I am just going into the workouts and doing whatever feels right.

I almost died on the rack pulls. I haven’t done any pulling in…what…6?..8?..10 months? It showed. When I pulled the 405#, I thought I had ruptured an organ and got sharp pains in my obliques, on both sides. I, initially, thought I had torn them. But it is better now. Maybe I should ease into it a little more slowly.

This made me laugh because it’s exactly what I would have done and probably everyone else on this forum. Why do we never learn?. We know what will happen but we go and do it anyway!!

‘Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting differant results. Stupidity is do something knowing full well something bad is about to happen.’ I tend to fall under the second one these days.
Left it there. I wasn’t motivated, feeling it or setting the world on fire…but got enough done for it to count. I think I am going to semi-deload Tue. and Thur.
Thanks, Snap. King? hahahaha Maybe squire.
Since it isn’t a comp lift, you won’t miss the OHP. I think the biggest reason that I do it is because I am actually decent at it. Makes me feel good, when my other lifts are lagging.
Speaking of presses, I finally did a bench progression chart, from my return to lifting until now. Although, I HOPE that there will be another bump, before the month is out.
One of the lulls in progress was due to shoulder issues. I went light and CGB only for a while. The biggest lull started this past August. That is when I slipped into a down cycle that took a good while to get out of.
Jack, still working on the bumps. In this case, bumps in the road are a good thing.
Soldog, I don’t remember. I will check in the morning and let you know, though. It is a utility bench, no racks, obviously But it is sturdy as hell. I have never felt it budge.
Scaled BACK day
Seated Rows - close neutral
100x15
160x12
210x10
255x10x3
Did a lighter back workout, yesterday. Something, in my left wrist, popped, on the last set of close grip seated rows. No pain, but just feels weird.
Thanks skip - which end do you put your shoulders on?
wow - The site has been messed up all last night and this morning.
