Fortune Favors the Bold

Yo Strick, you out there breaking records?

I’m still here. Been feeling out of sorts for a bit and not in the mood to do much of anything. Turns out I have been carrying a sinus infection and had started my every 3rd year war with strep. I seem to have caught the latter in time and the former is being treated.
That, cheerleading, Dr. visits for the wife and I, a tad of OT (overtime, not occupational therapy) have been keeping me busy.
I could feel the physical toll of the illness, though, and decided to deload this week. So, not much to report.
Elbow is doing better, but is lingering…of course.
That is pretty much it. I will try to catch up on some logs this weekend.

And Joe, it does seem down right communist to not be able to purchase green peanuts. Thing is, they say you can buy them raw, but they have to be dried. Makes no sense.

Carl, a lot of folks don’t like the texture of them. If you can get past that, though (and I do like it), it ain’t nothin’ but goodness.

Skip, I sure know what you mean. The daughter had strep 5 times in the past calender year. We are going to remove her tonsils. Good luck with all that.

That sucks! Strep is miserable!
I asked about getting my tonsil cut out, because of strep and snoring. Doc told me that, at my age, it is better to leave them in unless absolutely necessary. Something about them getting more and more vascular over time and lots of bleeding.

Vascular? Isn’t that a BB Term?

Just checking in. Hope you are feeling better and all is well.

Rug, I think you are right. I guess I do need them removed…before I start doing sell my free weights and just start doing high reps on machines. (Yes, I know that BBers use free weights…sometimes)

Jack, I am doing better. i think the sinus infection is all but gone. Now just to get my oomph back.

Not much to report on the no energy workouts. But I have gotten them done.

Saturday was a sub-standard bench day. And I do mean sub-standard. All I did was bench…11 sets of flat bench and 2 sets of CGB.

Monday’s back workout was pretty good. I have really developed a love for back day. I carry no expectations into the workout. No worries about how much weight goes up or how many reps at X pounds. I just go in, get some higher reps, push the weight and have fun.
Even so, I hit a seated row PR…350x3. That was a 25# PR. Wife said that the form looked pretty good. Translation: I didn’t go overboard with the leaning back. She said it wasn’t much different than the 255# reps.

Military Press this afternoon. Not sure how that will go, as the weight has been feeling really heavy. But we will give it a go.

I’m fighting that myself! Good luck!

LS- I sent your mojo, your oomph, and some profanities for you to yell at the bar!!

Thanks, OG. As I had to skip (no pun intended) yesterday’s workout (damn internet connection died and I was stuck at work) I will don all 3 and give it a go this afternoon.

Sorry to hear your ooomph is mia. I’m having a similar problem but it’s more mental than physical. I continue to hit pr’s but mentally feel like I should be licking windows on the short bus. I’m getting my blood levels checked and have a prescription but I wonder how much is the change in weather and shorter days. Perhaps we all react differently.

I want to see more videos swearing at the weight. That one made my day

Mine is both. I don’t feel like getting in there and doing it. But I have no problem making myself do it.
On top of that, my strength is down, in MP and bench. The weight feels really heavy and I can’t push as much. Not sure what is going on. It does seem to be how it works with me, though. I don’t ever just plateau and stay at one level. If my strength is not going up, it is going down. And that is frustrating as hell.
The continued elbow problem may be contributing in some unforeseen manner. In any case, this too shall pass.

I’ll see what I can do about the video  I think I have to find my mojo first, though.

<Where did I put that damned thing? I know it is here somewhere. Honey? Have you seen my mojo?>

MP Day -

It sucked. I thought it might be good, but the downward path of my strength continues. Why can’t I just plateau like everyone else?? Really can’t wait for it to stop and for my strength to return.
Still on the antibiotics…wife and 2 kids have very bad colds/upper respiratory crap. But, I am taking a 3 day weekend and hope to actually catch up on sleep and get back on track.

MP
barx15x2
95x10
135x5
165x5
195x5
225x3
245x1
225x3
195x5x3

Shrugs
225x20x3

That’s it. Still avoiding laterals and rear delt raises because of the elbow.

I feel for ya. Having the same mojo issue here too. If you find yours, take a few moments and see if you can find mine… your MP’s looked good to me. You will build that strength back soon enough.

Wilson, my suspicion is that our mojos are holed up somewhere, suffering from a boiled peanut and PBR stupor, waiting for tomorrow’s ballgames.

You may be right. Mine is pissed becasue I wont get to see my team on TV…

I think you are experiencing “the wave.” You hit a peak and the body backs off from it, then you ramp back up to it and pass the last peak with the new one. I’ve begun noticing this in my lifting (though I don’t lift so much). I think if you roll with it, you’ll pass your old numbers in a month or so.

Course - I may be chock-full-o-shit, too. A possibility not to be too lightly disregarded.

Strength ebbs and flows, it does not just plateau. I’m not sure whether DCA is chock-full-o-shit, but he nailed this one.

No. You’re not full of shit. I’ve noticed this cycle myself and in a ton of other people. This is my inexpert drawing of how I visualize strength gains. It isn’t a steady progression. It’s more organic with and ebb and flow.

You may only be experiencing the trough before the next peak.
