Thanks, Pete. It was a crappy workout, comparatively. I got it done, though. Now for a week of recovery!
We are leaving in about an hour. 18 hours of hell. I am not sure how much internet access I will have. I mean, I am going to GA. They (we) didn’t get internet until 2007.
In case I am not on, I hope everyone has a good week! Lift heavy and have fun![/quote]
I hope you had a great trip with the family. It’s a nice time for a deload.
Your suitcase carries got me thinking I should add those in for grip strength. I haven’t done them in a dogs age and they really do kill your forearms.
Made it! It took 17 1/2 hours, but we are here. It, actually, didn’t go badly, considering I had to sit on my ass the entire time and drive through the night. The 8th hour, 4:00-5:00 am, was the hell hour. It was all I could do not to fall asleep. My wife was just as tired, so I decided not to turn over the reins.
Fortunately, just after 5:00, the sky started getting lighter and dawn was on the way. Once it got lighter, I was okay.
Once here, we contacted my aunts, uncles and cousins. They, of course, disregarded the fact that I had been up, except for an hour and a half, 34 hours and invited us over for a cookout and dip in the pool. It was really good to see all of them. Most I haven’t seen in 4 1/2 years. The rest, I had never met before (very young little girl 2nd cousins and my 1st cousins wife and daughter).
We are finally back at the hotel and thinking about bed. I am looking forward to it.
As for the deload, I spent an hour launching (MP) my children in the pool. Not to mention the swimming. It felt good. And since the hotel doesn’t have a fitness center (I thought it did), there will be no workout until I get to Athens…probably Thursday.
I haven’t so much as seen a gym, since I have been on vacation. I might not lift at all this week!
Sell the house.
Sell the car.
Sell the kids.
Find someone else.
Forget it.
I’m never coming back.
Forget it.
Sunburned…wife is sunburned…youngest is sunburned. I keep getting them to bed late and up early. They may not let me live to return.
I got stung by a baby jellyfish…and the little bastard got away. He knew right where to hit me…dead center of the back.
First 48 hours…
Visit to the swamp park - found out my oldest boy (Autie) is terrified of dragonflies. Swamp was not his finest moment. Nor was him thinking the tassels from the snake guys sheath, as the brushed the top of his head, was a snake. He about came unglued.
Trip to Baptist Village - HUGE Live Oak…80’ tall and 35’ around. It was here before the Constitution was signed.
Jekyll Island - 1st trip to a beach, for my youngest. 1st trip to an ocean, for all of them. This is where the jellyfish perpetrated the hit and run.
Visit to uncles’ shop to see locomotives - they had 2 locomotives on site. One was ready to head out the door. Kids got to climb around on it, get in the cab and help start it up. They didn’t appreciate the noise. I am still awed by the power.
3 evening visits to my uncle’s - have had supper there everynight. Kids have gone swimming in the pool every visit.
We are exhausted. Heading back to the beach tomorrow. Then off to north GA the next morning. I might not survive this vacation. The natives are getting pretty damned restless (and tired). There is talk of mutiny…
Sometimes, vacations are more like work than work is, eh? It took me 3 trips to the same place before I was able to just ‘do nothing’ for my vacation…which is what you’re supposed to do on vacation.
Thanks, gents. It has been fun…and fatiguing. Seeing the kids’ faces light up, when they hit the beach, makes the whole trip worth it. Of course, at the snake/gator show, my daughter was in her own. She got to touch all the snakes and a baby gator. Her only gripe was that they wouldn’t let her HOLD the snake.
So…after much debate, we decided to let everyone sleep in, this morning. We would just head to the beach a little later in the day. I was in bed sleeping like a baby and next thing I know all the kids are awake and ready to go, at 6:45! I sure hope the sunblock works better this go around.
Fernandina (beach day 2) was kind of a bust. The sand was like hot coals. It was too bright. Wife (who doesn’t swim), youngest and daughter all got obliterated by sneaky waves. The only ones having fun were my oldest son and ME. He and I liked the bigger waves. No one else did. Since everyone else was miserable, it didn’t take long for me to get that way. So, we packed up early and headed back.
Left for Athens yesterday morning and got here just after lunch. As soon as I got here, dear old dad loaded me in his car and we spent 2 hours running errands. That was sooooo what I wanted to do, after logging my 30th hour of driving in the past 5 days. I don’t know how truckers do it. My ass, hips and back are killing me.
Slept for crap. Now I can add shoulders and neck to that list Give me some time, I will find more to bitch about.
I’m already looking forward to getting back home…'cept for the 14-15 hour drive to get there.
As mentioned before (I think), no lifting this week. After 15 months of not missing workouts, I guess this is my reset week. I’m REALLY looking forward to hitting the “gym” again and getting back to some normalcy.

In Athens, finally…

Ah, Athens. I’ve been on the phone with Athens all week. My company has a regional office in Athens and I’m constantly flopping back and forth whether or not to move down there, stay here, or move to Ft. Collins (CO).
SteelyOne, it is an absolutely beautiful town! It has changed a good bit, since I moved. But it is gorgeous…
As for good eats, I just got back from All-U-Can-Eat BBQ (that would be proper (pork) BBQ). Mmmmmmmmm

Now, see, if UGA ever actually beat UF, then you might have a point. Since UGA has pretty much been their bitch, though, I wouldn’t think it would phase you.
Go 'Bama, Roll Tide, on the other hand. Now that might elevate your ire.
I suffer from college football loyalty issues. I’m from GA, so pull for UGA. Having been a cop in Athens, though, seeing the big babies lose doesn’t worry me, though. I was a Bobby Bowden fan. And I also liked Spurrier (as a coach) and Saban and Meyer, currently. Pretty much, if the SEC wins, I am happy. Hell, if Vandy won the national championship, I would celebrate! Here’s to 5 NCs in a row!

Nice pic!! And it fit right in with your theme…
This not working out is screwing with my head. My wife sat next to me tonight, wrapped her hands around my upper arm (they didn’t meet) and I said, “yeah…they’re getting smaller, aren’t they?” She about smacked me! But I do feel smaller.

haha I hear you! I’m also happy when the SEC wins. I had to stop by because of my user name on here 5 of the past 5 championships, here’s hoping the SEC can keep it going…
