Bulldog, that sounds like a good plan. No leg drive… Glad you didn’t go for the Olympic rules, because I have no idea what they are  How were they different?
The old rules the feet can only be so far apart plus your feet could not be off set. Plus your not allowed to lean back.
Back in the old old days it was called the military press, because you basically had to stand at attention with feet together and press with no kneebend or layback at all.

Olympic rules permitted layback and quite a few lifters got away with a flash-quick knee bend. That’s how Alexiev beat Redding in the press - in my opinion.
My bad your right.

You’ll note that I’m not entering this pressing race. Last time I decided to race Strick I ended up eating asphalt chips… Between the two of you it would be like me attempting to wrestle walruses. Cool if you’re a walrus or a polar bear, but not when you’re an arctic fox.

When I asked my Dad what his best MP was, he said 320#. I asked him how much of a lean he had and he said, “a lot”. I don’t think I lean that much. I lean back at the beginning, to clear my face/head, but get more vertical once I clear my forehead.

Since you guys have seen my millies, is my lean excessive?

Staggered footing? That seems like it would make the lift even more awkward. The only reason I could think to do that would be as a brace for leaning way back??

I like the bear comparison better. I hope I am not yet to “walrus” level.

Staggered footing actually stablizes me alot better.

All the videos I’ve seen show you from behind, so it’s hard to tell from my inexperienced eye, but I think your form looks good.

Really? I have never tried it, but in my minds eye, a non-symmetrical setup would throw me off. Hmmmmm…something to think about.

sfp - my videos are from the angle they are because you can’t get far enough away to get me in it, directly from the side. I’ll see if I can get a better angle next time, though.

You’re too darn big, I get it.

Ditto the staggered footing. I don’t use it much, but it does stabilize.

You have very little lean, actually. All your drive is coming from the shoulders, not from any leaning away from the bar and recovering.

Lol…actually, it isn’t how big I am. It is how small the room is. With me standing in the middle of it, you could only get about 4 1/2’ from me, even is the videoer was presssed against the wall.

How staggered are we talking about? A couple of inches? Half a foot length? More?

Thanks for the insight, Tony. I don’t feel like I am leaning unnecessarily. Sometimes you don’t realize form errors are happening, though.

Chest and Triceps -

Still feeling the wear from last week’s bench and military maxing. Things felt heavier than they should have. The fact that I have been out of creatine for over a week, BCAAs for 2 weeks and my non-Surge protein powder for a week, might be contributing to this as well. Hopefully, after the vacation, I will have enough $$ left to restock.

Static Stretching

Bench
barx15x2
95x10
135x8
185x5
225x3
275x2
315x1
325x5 - PR +1 Rep
340x1

2 Board Press - Almost blew this. Started descending too early and my bar path was off. Excuse the boxer brief clad youngling.
375x3

3 Board Press
385x3
405x3 - PR +1 Rep

Skullcrushers - EZ Curl Bar
115x10
135x10
150x5x2 - PR +5#

Face Pulls
110x10
130x10x2

The set at 325# wiped me out. So I abamdoned full bench after 340#. The board presses, besides the 1st rep at 375#, felt good. My joints are really aching right now.

skip just declared a PR day! even when he says the weights all felt heavy

great work!

Those are massive board presses dude, congrats on the PR.

Great work. Your bench is really moving north.

Nice benchin, Strick!!!

Nice benchin. Question: Don’t the skulls destroy your elbows? They make mine hurt somethin fierce.

I do believe that you set the tone for the day. Great meet! It was inspirational…and the youngest enjoyed it as a bonus.

Thanks Joe, Jack, Math. Now, if I can just get those board presses down to my chest.

RL - the skullcrushers do indeed cause discomfort in my elbows. So far, it isn’t bad enough for me to stop doing them. One thing that I did to help the elbows was shorten the ROM, slightly. I bring them down to about 1 - 1 1/2" from my forehead, instead to touching my forehead or let the bar drift higher, where it is further back than my head. At the bottom of the rep, the bend in my elbow is similar to that of bench.
One thing, though, I can’t do them too quickly. A fast descent is more painful than a slow and methodic one. But that is just what works for me.

If it works for you then do it.
