Fortune Favors the Bold

Leg Day -

I was sitting at work and was really antsy to get to this workout. I was pondering doing some really high rack pulls and maybe some light squats. Didn’t happen…

Lots and lots of static stretching
Lots of foam rolling

Back already tweaking

BW squats x 100 - back didn’t like these. hips tightened, lower back tightened.

DL with the bar x 50 - back dictated that I stop at that point

More foam rolling

Looking forward to tomorrow’s millies.

shit man - 100 BW squats should tighten up your hips and back if you haven’t worked up to that. It’s similar to doing 500x5 in total weight moved…

Well, they weren’t straight. I did 5 sets of 20 on the squats and 2 sets of 25 on the RDLs. Still got me, though.

Damn, I wouldn’t even try that with just body weight…

You know, my legs are really sore today. How sad is that. Unfortunately, my back is wonky as well. Maybe I will stick with the bw stuff for a bit.

On a side, got my bloodwork back. TT = 570, FT = 18 That is a bit lower than I would like. Time for more tweaking…arghh!

Everytime I go away you set monster PR’s…365 bench? Nice work brother, nice work!!! Impressive say I!

Thanks, OG. Good to have you back!

Funny you should do that. I had been seriously contemplating posting a new version of “Dust in the Wind”.

Shoulders -

Was looking forward to today’s workout. And it was a pretty good one. The last set of millies really just wiped me out. I drug through the rest of the workout. Intensity was pretty damned good, though.

Static Stretching

Military Press
barx15
95x10
135x5
165x2
195x1
225x1
245x1
260x1 - PR +5#

135x30 - PR +3 Reps - Several of these were shallow at the bottom. Hey…it’s 30 reps…sue me. 30 reps is too many. I have to do them too fast to get in that many. I am going to 155# next and will move up when I can hit 20 of them.

BB Shrugs - still keeping it lighter to reduce load on the back
225x20x3

DB Laterals
40sx10x3

Rev. Flyes
40sx10x3

That’s it.

Next week is my last week before vacation. I hope to really burn down the house and earn/need my time away from the iron.

Would you like to race to 300 my man?

How does it feel to press overhead what most men can’t squat?

f’n awesome big guy! great PRs!

A-hole. You doubled my money set on your rep out. Medium framed my ass. Nice work.

Very nice LS. Congrats on the PR’s.

At the risk of having my ass handed to me, why not. I don’t know how well your millies move up. The way mine go, though, it might be the Christmas after next before I can press 300#. But having a goal and someone to push you is always a good thing.

Tony, that press is more than I was squatting 14 months ago…lol.
I like me some millies. They make me feel strong, even if other lifts aren’t going as well.

Great MP Skipper. 260 went up easy.

George, jack, OP - Thanks gents. It is a good way to wind down into vacation. This will be the 1st week that I haven’t been able to stick to my lifting schedule since I started back, almost 16 month ago. It is going to be weird. I am already apprehensive about it. I just hope that I can blast myself enough, next week, that it makes the downtime productive.

Jack, you were doing your reps at 140#, if I recall…not 135#. And I am willing to wager that your reps were a helluva lot cleaner than mine. If I had done slow, controlled reps, there is no way in hell I would have gotten 30.

Wow! I haven’t heard that name in a while. My folks nicknamed me Skipper, as a newborn. When I hit 9th grade, I dropped the “per”. Thought Skip sounded better…though not much
The only folks that still call me that are my Aunts and Uncles. My brother does, sometimes…when he isn’t calling me “Red”, as in redneck.

It went up because of that dippy thing I do. I have a habit, on max attempts, of pushing the bar up, slightly, then pulling it down low, like I am cocking myself (stretch reflex). Because of the way I am built, pulling it down forces it out in front of me, which is why I get a slight bend in my knees…to keep from going over forward. Then, from the cocked position, I try to explode.
Looking at the videos, I don’t think I get much, if any, push from locking my legs. At leat my shoulders don’t go up. But I definitely get something from the dip and explode.
