Latest Muscular Development has a Q&A column w/ Poliquin dealing with food allergies. He talks about a chiropractor who couldn’t lose fat no matter what and had an antibody reaction test done w/ different foods, he was allergic to broccoli, nuts, eggs, milk, etc. I’ve been eating all these on my low carb diet (except milk) and have had problems losing fat. I feel bloated w/ whey protein and think I might be allergic to that, even low lactose whey (i’m lactose intolerant) Also get bloating sometimes from eggs, even broccoli. Freaked me out these foods can stop fat loss, since Poliquin removed these foods and in one week the guy lost 4% bodyfat, with no caloric restriction or weight loss so he built muscle too. Anyone have info on getting this type of test done , its cost, or signs of allergies? Now i’m stuck with lean steaks and fish oil for my diet (love steak anyway) but i’m paranoid about other foods.
Go to www.mydynamics.com get a book called Physically incorrect. It has a very helpful excerpt that will help determine food allergies. Not to mention a ton of other very helpful insights in training and nutrition.
You don’t need to spend a lot of money getting tests done etc. unless you really want to. There are simpler ways to test for food allergies. Simply eliminate the foods that you suspect you might be allergic to for a period of 2 weeks. If you’re allergic to the food you’ll probably crave it like hell and feel withdrawal symptoms from not having it. After a period of 2 weeks reintroduce these foods 1 by one back into your diet. At this time you will get symptoms such as bloating, lethargy, etc. if you are allergic to these foods. Only reintroduce foods 1 at a time though…this way you will KNOW what is causing the symptoms.
In your case it sounds like you know exactly what the problem is so just eliminate all dairy products(including protein powder, cheese, yogurt, milk, etc.) for a couple of weeks and see what happens.
