what do you think of FMS screening test as a professional coach?i just started a job as a assistant trainer in a small PT studio.the head trainer is really pushing the system, and he is pretty cool and smart guy.he made me do the tests and i failed in 2 of them, was ok in 3 and good in 2.according to him i cant do any squat or lunge and very light overhead worn until i impove.the thing is i train with free weights for 20 years,i used to squat to pararel with 200 kilos in my back and i do pushups, pullups, dips, lunges every week with full range of motion with pretty good form and i have no serious injury or pain in my body, i…the guy is looking like he barely trains with weights, very little muscle ,he is doing basically functional training, lots of trx,rip trainer, unilateral leg exersice and light weight barbells BUT he is excellent accoring to fms,he passes all tests with perfect score…so is he wrong or i need to really change things up?
It’s good entry level screen. It doesn’t say everything and has limitations but it does provide good info if the trainer knows what he is doing.
thank you for your answer.does it has value for an advansed trainer?do you use it with your clients?
I don’t use it personally, I have some of my trainers do the assessment for me. I don’t have tons of time on my ends so I delegate a lot, especially since the FMS or others screening processes are not my area of expertise. One of the trainers who work for me is an expert in it, I also work with a posturologist.
thank you!
