Fluoride Conspiracy

Just wanted to know everybody’s opinion on fluoride in most water supplies.

Some people seem to think it is good, and some people think is is a government conspiracy. The descriptions of fluoride I have heard so far range from “it is good for your teeth”, to "the Nazi’s experimented with it and their research concluded that fluoride makes a persons mind more susceptible to suggestion, and the knees brittle.

I go to school in Philly, and apparently there is flouride in the water there, and I don’t mind it at all. I drink anywhere from 100-150oz of water a day, sometimes from the tap or a water cooler. It took some time to get used to, but I love it. I wish they would put some creatine in it or something, that’d be even more amazing.

Water is water is water imo.

Yes, General Ripper, the communists put the flouride in our water. Initiate Plan R.

i’ve heard a lot about this as well. at the least non-topical application of it is a bad idea. isn’t fluoride used as a sedative?

Didn’t that lead to global thermonuclear war?

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk… ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children’s ice cream.

Group Captain Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.

Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?

Mandrake: Aye, no, no. I don’t Jack.

Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? Its incredibly obvious isn’t it. A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first…become…well, develop this theory?

Ripper: Well, I, uh…I…I…first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.

Mandrake: Hmm.

Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue…a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I…I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.

Mandrake: Hmm.

Ripper: I can assure you that it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh…women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I do not avoid women, Mandrake.

Mandrake: No.

Ripper: But I…I do deny them my essence.

Not the communists. He’s right-it’s our government in their first step to an elaborate mind control plan to turn the country into mindless drones. Seemingly, they’ve been succesful with large segments of the population already.

Thank you for catching the reference.

You guys are funny.

All I know is that since I have moved to a part of the country with non-fluorinated water, I have noticed lots of non-homeless adults with brown teeth.

I have to now rinse daily with a fluorinated mouthwash.

As far as I know, San Diego has never added fluoride to its tap water. People here are neither smarter or less brittle than the rest of the country.

I was skeptical about watching such an old movie, but this scene alone made it worthwhile. It is funny that we are debating a topic that Dr. Strangelove brought to the countrys attention ohh so long ago.

Fluoride definately helps with the teeth!! I lived in Okinawa for a few years, where there is no fluoride in the water, and young teens have brown rotting teeth. I’m told that is why.

I read somewhere that fluoride doesn’t get absorbed into the teeth after the age of 4-6.

I’ve noticed that people who don’t brush their teeth have brown teeth.

But maybe that’s just a conspiratorial coincidence…

I don’t know about fluride keeping your teeth white, but it does protect the health of your teeth. Cavities in the pre-fluride generation were rampant. They are much less common now despite the fact that most people’s diets are higher in sugar than they were 50 years ago. Personally, I’ve never had a cavity.

Not sure about the whole conspiracy issue but I do know some people who believe fluoride interferes with thyroid function. I did some research a few years back and there was enough evidence that led me to believe it could be true. I don’t drink water with fluoride or use toothpaste that contains it either - my teeth aren’t brown and I have no cavities.

There are other ways we can protect our teeth, one major way is to cut out/back on the amount of sugar we consume.

I heard this BS a while back, they even went so far as to say that flouride was added to the water to kill poor people who couldnt afford bottled water, thus creating a society of rich people… Meanwhile the population increases 10% a year.

my math teacher of two years ago didn’t think it was a conspiracy, but did think it was terrible. He noted that fluoride is a byproduct of the steel making process, which the goverment buys from big companies…

I don’t know…

What you read about absorption is related to teeth that are still developing. It is those early ages when fluoride is the most benefit to the strength of secondary teeth once they erupt. I can look in someone’s mouth and tell most of the time if they grew up around fluoridated water. After that age, topical treatment is most effective as that found in water serves much less of a purpose through systemic effects. Products like “Act” mouthrinse or topical fluoride from your dentist would help teeth resist cavities.

In other words, fluoridated water is most beneficial to children.

Isnt fluoride like a synthetic version of the naturally occuring flurine?

My understand is that fluoride is good for your teeth, but bad to injest.

I’d really like to know what exactly fluoride is…or how they produce it. By product of some aluminium production…or something. Seems a little far fetched, but you never know.

I’m pretty sure most of Europe is non fluroide. I wonder how that correlates to brown teeth and decay.

Professor,

Isn’t it because the flourine replaces Chlorine in the chemicals that make the teeth? And then strengthening them?
