Flexibility for Full Squats

I lack the flexibility to perform a full squat. I’ve searched but i cant find anything specific to my problem.

I was just trying to get into the rock bottom position without any weight and the only way i can do it is to have my arms out in from of me and my toes angled about 45degrees outward.

When i tried with a broom on my back my feet had to point even farther outward and my lower back rounded severely at the bottom. I also felt a stretch/pain on the tops of my feet if that means anything. What do I need to do to be able to perform a full squat?

Sounds like with a little practice you’ll be fine. Your ankles sound tight. I do a drill for that. With your foot flat on the ground try and touch your knee to the wall in front of you. Gradually move your foot back farther. This should help.

Check out the ‘Squat Rx’ series on youtube, he goes over a lot of good flexibility stretches and exercises that are pretty helpful

The “Third World Squat” article as suggested above is good. At the author’s suggestion, I now try to squat down into a full unloaded squat and hold it for about a minute at least a couple times per day. I was able to do full squats before, but the movement is becoming more natural now, and I feel more comfortable in the bottom.
