Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

No need for the newsletter

You get me live man

Played a little ball last night but whatever bug I thought was gone is still kickin’. I was sucking wind and just lethargic the whole time. Yes, I still caught a few dunks [in your face!!!]. Think I’ve lifted 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and probably less than 10 times in the last 2 months. Ol’ girl flys in tomorrow, gonna lift Monday and Tuesday then take the rest of the week off due to our traveling to Austin. After that I’ll have 2 or 3 weeks of uninterupted training, then have to take a week off when I fly up to Portland to move her down. After that, barring any unforseen complications I’ll be back in there 4 times a week like clockwork. Big things comin’ ya’ll.

2011 is the year of the flash!

She movin in with you?

I’ll be following your log, bro. I LOVE basketball, and really hope to see some videos of some crazy dunks from you in the future. One of my goals this year was to be able to dunk again (could 3 yrs ago when I was 140 lbs and played ball like 5 times a week), and actually did yesterday. Good luck to your goal for 45", because if you achieve it, that would be sick.

Hope you meant 2012 homey. Yeah, the plan is we’re gonna stay in my place [an efficiency with her and her dog and me and my dog, both pits] 'til I can get transferred then we’re dipping out to Austin or San Antonio and getting a place out there. Scary stuff. Happy New Year brother.

Thanks bud. Not sure if you’ve read through, but I’m trying to get back where I was. Think the highest I ever got was 42.5", but I’ve had some pretty serious knee injuries since then, and I just turned 30 so I’m fighting an uphill battle. If I can start getting some of the dunks I caught a few years ago [360’s, windmills, reverse tucks, etc…] I’ll know I’m on the right track. How tall are you? Also, I see you’re in Kentucky so I think you’re required by law to love basketball. Happy New Year bro.

Ohh yeah I had seen you had knee issues, but I thought 45 may still be in your grasp. Have you ever used a program like the Vertical Jump Bible or anything?

And I’m 6’2", with a shitty vert, so all my dunks are the basic ‘power dunks’. I’m lucky I have huge hands, and have been able to palm a ball since 7th grade, so it makes dunking look a tad bit more impressive. lol. And yeah, EVERYONE plays ball in KY. Happy New Years to you as well.

I’m gonna do my best to get it back. No, jumping has always come naurally to me. Didn’t start playing ball til the 7th grade and caught my first dunk at the beginning of 10th at about 5’7". Never used any jump programs. Actually had my best gains lifting 4 days a week with lower focus on squats, cleans and leg curls twice a week and playing ball 1-2 times a week. Not sure exactly how much was gained 'cause I didn’t measure, but I’d guess a legit 3-4" in 8-10 weeks. Crazy thing is I wasn’t even trying to improve my vert, just wanted to get stronger at squats and cleans. Do you play ball at all anymore or just goof off?

Yeah, I didn’t learn to play until about 8th grade. I’m naturally not explosive at all, so when I was in HS, I did stupid shit like Air Alert, and it did nothing for me. lol. I still try to play every couple off days from lifting. It’s pretty inconsistent though. A fraternity at school asked me to play on their inter-mural team, though, so I guess that may change. It sucks not playing as much as I use too though, because my handles and jumper go down the shitter stupid quick if I’m not playing all the time.

Dude, you might as well. How many games a week would ya’ll play? Keep you competitive and break the monotony of just lifting. Air Alert is pretty crazy. I’ve looked at it, and by the last week you’re doing like a thousand jumps a day, haha. You do cleans or snatches or anything like that?

I think 2 games a week, not including end of the year tournament stuff. Yeah, I probably will, just because I miss ball. Yeah, I think Air Alert works for people who are naturally strong, just inefficient jumpers. I, sadly, am the opposite. Playing ball the time had my plyo work good, but naturally, I’m not explosive at all (use to run sub-5 minute mile in track, but ran like a 5.6 40. lulz), so it did nothing for me. I’ve actually never tried a legit clean, and the only ‘snatch’ work I’ve done is I recently implemented snatch grip DL’s. Actually, I’ve been doing HFS, which has me squatting perfect rep style 4x a week, and the last 2 months of that I’ve become (for me) MUCH more explosive.

I’m assuming you play point, at your height. You thinking of playing on team or anything, or just pick-up here and there is enough for you?

2 games a week sounds about right if you’re lifting 4 days a week. You should be able to improve your game without jacking with your weightroom work. A sub 5 minute mile is pretty impressive man. You should give cleans and snatches a shot. I fucking love cleans. Feel like they mimic 2 footed jumping perfectly. How do you like HFS work? Been looking at it a bit and it looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I’m definitely a point. I’d love to get in a league but haven’t really looked into joining one. Want to get my knee [and low back] feeling a little better before I commit to anything like that. Right now pick-up 1-2 times a week is enough. You have a log here, right? Was looking for it yesterday but guess I missed it.

Yeah, I’d love to give cleans a try, but my university gym jumps on your ass if you do anything they see as an Oly Lift, even power variations, they say it’s bound to ruin the weights. Maybe during the summer, when I’m at my gym with a platform and bumper plates, I’ll give them a shot. And I LOVE HFS. Lifting has never come easy to me, and in my time training, haven’t made a lot of progress. Doing this program, is not only the most fun I’ve had lifting, but has kind of ‘taught’ me how to lift. FOr the first time ever, I’m semi-explosive, which is crazy too me. lol

Yeah, I always wished I had been short growing up, and been taught to be a point THEN gotten my growth spurt. Sadly, I was always taller then average, so I got taught post moves and was told to NEVER dribble. Now in college, at 6’2", the post players I end up going against are like 6’5-9", so I wish had been taught to be a guard early on. lol.

Do your injuries prevent you from playing too often, just due to the pain?? Or like are you just not suppose to be playing a lot in order to not re-injure yourself? Here’s the link to my log. I’m horribly weak, so sorry for the non-impressive numbers, but they are creeping up slowly.

Dude, just never drop the bar. I do hang cleans with the super gay hexagon plates, so I’ll do whatever reps I’m doing, never let go of the bar and when I finish the set I just rack it. I’d kill for some bumper plates, but you don’t need 'em.

Haha, it’s never too late to develop your handle man. Just got to stay on top of it. There are all kinds of drills you can do to get more comfortable with the ball.

Yeah, my left knee acts up if I play too consistently, though I’m at the point now where it’s not killin’ me just sitting here so it’s making progress. Glad you’re enjoying your training bud. Don’t worry about your numbers. They’ll get where you want 'em in no time. Just be patient and consistent. I’m dying to get my #'s back up, just gotta tak my own advice.

That’s the thing. Apparently people USE to drop the bar, so you aren’t allowed to clean with any variation. Saw a guy doing clean and presses, told him he could press, but the ‘action’ of OLY lifting wasn’t allowed. I couldn’t believe it.

You got any good drills? Handles are def the biggest hole in my game.

Well, at work now and had a pretty interesting weekend. We get to Austin thursday morning, my girl books a hotel through pricelne that turns out to be the ghettoest hotel in the history of ghetto hotels, we go to grab grub and drinks with my brother and a wind up catching a mild case of food poisening and spent that night and most of the next day as the mayor of yak city. Didn’t stop me from dinking Friday night. We get back yesterday, I gotta drop her off at the airport for her 6:55 flight which ends up being delayed by close to 3 hours which means she’ll miss her connecting flight, so not only do they postpone it til this morning, it’s at Houston’s other airport through a much better airline with no connections, they offer her [us] a free night at a Marriot next to the airport, free food vouchers AND a $200 free flight voucher which she is using to buy me a one way FIRST CLASS ticket to fly up there in exactly 3 weeks to move her down. All in all, things turned out pretty well. Also, the hotel we stayed in last night was hands down the nicest place I’ve ever stayed, so that and the free first class ticket more than makes up for the shithole in Austin and the fact that I still feel like ass.

Spidey, I’ll try and post some ballhandling stuff in the future. Best advice I can give you now is fingers not palms and the more you handle it, the more comfortable you’ll be.
