Flappinit's Log: Home Gym Edition

Time is coming down nicely. Great work.

Thanks bud. As I said, my STAMINA feels unlimited but my VO2 max sure as hell has its limits, I was miserable for the last 30 or so burpees. 1 minute after finishing I was good for more, but my body still has some efficiency to gain on the movement before I can get the @ChongLordUno sub-5 in my sights haha

I think my best is a little over 8 mins and the second half of that felt like death. I am nowhere near that right now. I too need to get better.

So this is what it’s like to have a home gym.

By “this”, I of course mean constantly browsing the internet for new equipment.

Sandbag?

Viking attachment?

Roman Chair?

Adjustable bench?

I think the sandbag is going to work best at the moment, since it’s hot as fuck out and I can always get a good workout (or make one more miserable) by picking up something heavy and awkward like that and walking up the hill right outside my house.

Chicken in thai peanut sauce was bomb. Spaghetti squash was a great medium for it. Cleaned the bowl, felt full upon finishing, but not bloated in the least.

Is keg an option? They’re pretty damn awesome.

Neighbor who set up his heavy bag in my yard and told me to have it had his wife ask for a heavy bag. Instead of just taking his back - which would have been totally fine with me - he got a smaller replacement bag and set that up in its stead. Still is a nice heavy bag, just a lot smaller, meaning it’s the perfect size for me to throw around and carry up the hill.

Once you get a sand bag they start to multiply before you eyes.
I started with one bag and now have:
A 55kg (121lbs) slam ball - awesome for overshoulder work
My original sandbag bag which is currently 62kg (135lbs), good for shouldering and longer carries
An 80kg (176lbs) cerberus bag, great for carries and heaver shoulder work
and a 114kg (250 lbs) bag. I currently only have this filled to 100kg (220lbs) and it is a beast. Not filling it right up made it very hard to handle. Great for heavy picks, shorter heavy carries.

Sandbags or heavy balls seem to be things people buy and don’t use much, always find them for sale at the right price.

Yesterday was recovery - fasting all day, one meal at night. Couple hour walk, mowed the lawn, etc. Felt great.

Today, did 100 burpees at lunch - didn’t time myself but I think it came in around 12 min.

Came home after work - there’s a decent sized hill right outside of my house. Used the new heavy bag I have - it’s a bit over 100#. Two arm carry in front of me up the hill, one shoulder carry down - repeated 10 times alternating the shoulder every time.

It did what it was supposed to do. Sushi for my sons bday after - exercised great restraint and ate 90% raw fish, haha.

Sorry, a week late on this. You’re right - between all the resources out there + my own ideas/experience I can definitely figure this out but I would value and gladly welcome any advice or ideas you may have!

20 minute strong style 6 counts will bring that 100 burpee time right down mate

20 minutes straight of super strict six count burpees?

Yeah man. I focused on that for quite a while and ended up getting 500 unbroken which was a monkey on my back.

I think there’s a lot to say for slowing the burpee down, pausing and absorbing every point of contact and not focusing on speed.

You can only get so many strong style burpees in 20 mins if you keep a strict cadence. It’s no stress in that respect however it will creep up on you for sure

Oldest’s actual birthday today - I got up at 7 am with him and went mountain biking. Got some sweet gopro footage of him including a 33 minute continuous video with some decent downhills and technical stuff.

Drove back home, slammed an energy drink and did 20 minutes of strong style burpees a la @ChongLordUno. Just jogged in place when I wasn’t doing one, it’s 90 here so I sweat a ton but it was a great workout, every push-up crisp as hell and feeling strong.

Sandbag up the hill sounded like a whole lot of strongman Saturday fun.

This morning:

250 strong style burpees.

Felt strong the entire time - my elbow felt a little achey on the last 15 burpees for some reason, it feels fine now - I think I got down a bit fast on one of the last ones and my palm slid on the concrete a bit, just made for an awkward pushup and probably threw something off. No worries.

I think that’s the most burpees I’ve ever done in a session though. Definitely the cleanest and best form ones.
