October 7, 2006 - Central California Open Powerlifting, Bench, and Deadlift Championships - Modesto
Squat
1st Attempt 165kg or 363 3/4lb success
2nd Attempt 197 1/2kg or 435 1/4lb success
3rd Attempt 227 1/2kg or 501 1/2 failed
The only reason I failed was because I did not follow commands as I lifted the weight off the rack but stayed there and did not back up. The ref had to tell me to back up and that is where I got all the three red lights otherwise the lift was good per the other powerlifters, however I forgot to ask the refs why I got all three red lights.
I did feel my back go forward a bit with the weight on my shoulders as I was pushing up. Anyways it was my first experience so I can not complain.
(all that was used for the squat was a belt and knee wraps)
Bench
1st Attempt 142 1/2kg or 314lb success
2nd Attempt 165kg or 363 3/4lb success
3rd Attempt 182 1/2kg or 402 3/4lb success
(all that was used for the bench was wrist wraps)
Deadlift
1st Attempt 170kg or 374 3/4lb success
2nd Attempt 205kg or 451 3/4lb success
3rd Attempt 237 1/2kg or 523 1/2lb success
(all that was used was a belt)
Total 1361.34lbs
I weighed 249.2 and was in the 275 weight class.
For my next meet I want to weigh in the 220 weight class and maintain my lifts or increase if I can. We will see.
I have video of all my lifts, however it is on a DVD-R and does not let me upload to youtube or photobucket as I have no valid image extension. Otherwise I would have put the video up as well and tried for about an hour and just gave up on that.

Thanks for the support. Yeah, the first step is always the hardest. I will for sure do two competitions a year to keep my goals check and me on path. My next meet will be in March or April of 2007.

Nice numbers. It seems kinda odd that you jumped so much in weight between attempts though.
Other than that, congrats.

Thanks Ghost 22. What I did was actually start really light then moderate weight, and then slightly heavy weight. I was under about 5-10% percent of all my 1RMs as this was my first competition and did not want to bomb and lost my confidence. So I really did not try to hit any new goal in the meet, this meet was just for the experience. Again thanks for the comment and support.
Good lifting, man. Going 8 for 9 is nice at a first meet. 1300+ with no gear is decent raw total. I don’t think the weight jumps are all that drastic either. I try to open with a heavy weight but nothing that will really test me. But I almost always go for a PR on my second attempt, so the difference between those tow attempts is usually 40-60 lbs.
Thanks Pinto, AK47, and beefcakemdphd for all the support. I really enjoyed the meet will continue to go future meets. Hopefully increasing my lifts during each meet. Again thanks, I really appreciate all the kind words.
That’s great for your first meet. My first meet I bombed out on the bench and almost gave it up. Glad I didn’t though. A lot of people open up too high on their first meet.
