Been to a few meets which got me pretty hooked on wanting to compete so i signed up
teen 242lb class, raw with no wraps or knee sleeves
9 weeks out this sunday, current lifts are
squat: 455
deadlift: 565 (got it pretty easy, had more)
bench: 315 (low because of shoulder injury)
it is an untested meet, so 2+2, yes i would not qualify for a tested meet.
was hopping to get a 500 squat, 600+ dead, and i probably wont try to push my bench too high since my shoulder is very weak atm from injuries and im currently rehabbing. I still havent added in a lot of my “supplements” yet though, and feel like i could possibly work up to a 630+ deadlift
think I could have a shot at possibly winning? would hate to lose =/
Powerlifting is about competiting against your self not others. With that how ever I’m 30lbs less than you and out lift you (no offense meant) so its not going to be impossible for someone in your weight class to out total you… Sorry
yeah no offense taken man, just stasrted strength training recently (like within the last month) so just wanted to see kind of where I was at, should be fun to progress though
242 is pretty big, you must be crazy tall cause your avi looks pretty cut
I don’t know much about teens at 242. Your lifts aren’t very special at 242, but if you are a teenager you might outlift most kids your age.
So in answer to your question: with your current lifts an in the open division, you probably won’t win at 242. But, if you get your lifts up things change, AND competing against other teens you probably have a much better chance of placing high, depending on how big the meet is.
But other guys are right, you should just focus on PRing, and getting your feet wet in competing. Try and learn as much as you can, and be the best you can be this time around. Then, when you have a better idea of your local competition, you have some meet PR’s to beat, etc, focus more on winning.
Check out Powerliftingwatch, in all likelihood they have the results from this meet the last few years they’ve run it.
Honestly, you probably won’t even have any other teens @ 242 unless this is a very big meet. But assuming you can come close to hitting the numbers above on the platform, I’d be very surprised if another teen at a regional meet out totaled you. Just do your best, have fun, talk to the other lifters and try to learn something.
As for starting to shrink your testicles as a teenager, that’s another story…
