Did you see the Donny Shankle post on hand care that Debra posted on Masch’s thread? He has a method of athletic taping torn callouses and it really seems to work. It has allowed me to train through a torn callous.
Masch - I’m the same with food. I will never eat out with the sort of woman who is too concerned about calories to order her dessert, yet insists on having several bites of yours. Not going to happen, bitch - get your own!
Awesome benching, Veg - nice! You are damned strong (for a herbivore, heh heh).

MiM- Yeah, HATE ticks. I flush them down the toilet when I find 'em! And thanks. I <3 squats!
Beast- Not using the straps til I really have to… And even I might run away from the ONE squat rack in your gym if I saw you coming!
Frenchie- Thanks. My head is perfect again.
Kimba- Yup, RDLs are one of my all-time favorites. Would have been repping more if it wasn’t for that ripped callus ![]()
Sunday training: chest/shoulders
Warmup- pullups 5, 5; shoulder mobility stuff, bradford presses with the bar
BP- 75x5, 85x5, 95x5, 105x5, 115x2x2, 120, *feeling strong and a lot left in the tank so… 125, 125**PR
I can TASTE that BW bench. I haven’t benched since Tuesday so maybe the extra rest is what made the difference. Don’t know but I am stoked!
Incline DB press, one arm- 45x5x3 each arm
MP- 75x5, 80x3x2, 85x2
Upright row- 78x6, 6, 5, 6
Seated rear delt fly- 15’s x 10 x 2
Rolling med ball pushups (feet on step w/7 risers)- 10x3
Done
Hell nah, you wouldn’t run! I wouldn’t let you! If you’re doing the damn thing in there, I’ll be the first to let you know to take your time. Usually I’ll just go thru my warmups, however, if someone like yourself was working…I’d probably make my warmups last a bit longer and enjoy the show!
Awesome job with the bench! You probably have your BW bench now.
Is this the only day you press? I ask because I’m just noticing that you put MP with Bench. Curious.
veggie, I use straps, and have a grip trainer for my grip.
I don’t think there is any shame in using straps.
I also don’t think that your grip status should be your limiting factor, in which case, straps are acceptable.
without straps, I cannot get the max reps out of my weight.
with straps, the rest of my body gets the benefit.
my $.02.

Found this misshapen 4-leaf clover when I was milling around drinking water near my car after my run.
No surprise… Jersey is full of MUTANTS!
Ponce- Thanks, I did have a pretty good weekend. Got to see my 7 yr old nephew. He is a boy after my own heart. Had a family get-together in honor of my mom’s birthday, complete with grilled steak and foot-long hot dogs. He ate 2 plates of salad with sunflower seeds!
alexus- Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to check that out.
Cal- No worries, I order my own desserts. Lol. Yeah, my bench is finally coming along and I’m ecstatic. Improved technique/setup seemed to be the key to making progress. Many thankyou’s are owed to that big fucking scary guy that helped me out a few weeks ago.
Beast- Not sure that the BW bench is in the bag, but soon! You can come see my squat show anytime you like. And yes, I’ve been in the habit of only pressing on day, but I do that session twice a week. Maybe I should rethink that?
Edgy- I agree that there is no shame in using straps. I’m probably getting close to the point where it would make sense to use them. I’m a little paranoid about using them correctly though. My hands and wrists (along with my brain) are my bread and butter. Wouldn’t want to damage anything just for a lift.
I was laying in bed reading some logs and I came across Nadia’s recount of her run yesterday. Made me feel like getting out there myself so I got dressed and headed over to the park. Started raining while I was driving there. Oh well, running in the woods in the rain is fun. Did half of my Revolutionary War trail and then part of this hilly technical trail that I have always liked. Most of it is on a slope and there are TONS of tree roots and other things to keep it interesting. I really like trails that force you to pick lines and judge your footing. Because of this I have biffed it on that very trail many times. Managed to stay on my feet today. Did some hill sprints for grins.
Good run, about 35 mins and I didn’t get really wet-- just damp. My shoes are pretty gross though. I really need to go dig my trail shoes out of a box over at my folks place. I think I even have a brand new pair in a box. Bought 2 pairs years ago because the price was right and they had re-issued a favorite old style so I snapped them up. And then I stopped running shortly after due to that damned hip injury. Now that I’m back on the trails I can finally use them!
Guess that the run was technically “fasted cardio”. Hardly ever think about that shit but I only took some supplements and drank some water this morning. I have afternoon office hours and then I’m planning to go to the gym and do some back and arms tonight.

Of course it showed up twice! Whatever.
I’m too immature for the strap conversation.
That trail sounds kick ass.

Yeah my wrists constantly have big red marks around them like I was tied up my boss commented “you had a much more eventful weekend then me” I wish… straps won’t ruin your wrists/hands?
Grats on the bench pr, impressive!
congrats on the bench PR! that bodyweight number is yours.
Glad you are enjoying some nature time doing the trail running. That feels my soul.
AND THE BENCH PRESS!!! Good going! You’re closing in, Veg.
You are inspiring me to try to up mine tonight. Maybe that clover up there will bring the luck!
Congrats on your bench PR babycakes, those are the best.
I’m really trying to contribute to the conversation but I’m brain-dead. Still love ya though <3
hey wow. i’ve never actually seen a 4 leaf clover. i thought they were a myth.
MiM- Lol about the strap conversation. I’m really liking the trail running again. Very happy that my hip has been holding up too.
Kalle- The things that we do. So funny about your boss’s comment. I’m blown away by the bench PR, hope I can keep it going.
Frenchie- Bench has always been a struggle for me and I’m finally starting to feel confident with it. Feels great to be sooo close to a BW bench.
Puff- Yeah I’m glad that I gave running trails another try. It has been years and I really love it. Hope the clover worked for ya!
Honeybun- Thanks. I can relate to brain-dead, no worries ![]()
alexus- I actually have found numerous 4-leaf clovers. They sort of “jump out” at me visually. Found one about 3 weeks ago at a different park too. Not sure that they bring luck but my scientific mind finds them interesting.
Training last night was kind of ______. I did it but I think that it is really being effected by my lack of appetite. This whole ‘not hungry’ thing is starting to feel like a bad habit! Got home last night, forced down some food and mindlessly watched MLB network for a bit as I tried to analyze my current training efforts. I’m taking today and possibly tomorrow off and focusing on re-fueling. Work has been stressful, personal life is whatever, so I count on my training to be stellar. It is what gets me through. If I can’t eat enough to make that happen then I’m fucked. Having a hard time wrapping my mind around this. I mean, I’m working hard. Why don’t I feel hungry? I go through phases but this is getting ridiculous. I haven’t gotten on the scale but I bet I’m back around 135 again which isn’t necessarily bad, but I want to keep my strength levels up and food is an important part of the equation.
Sorry for the rant. On to the training re-cap.
Monday training: back/triceps
Warmup- HS wide pulldown: 90x8x3, shoulder and upper back mobility stuff, hypers BWx8x3
Pendlay rows- 128x3, 5, 4, 3, 4
Seated cable row w/wide ng- 10x3
DB row, one arm- 80x5x2 each arm; My hands were protesting the ENTIRE time. Bah, maybe straps are a good idea.
Cable straight arm pulldown- 10, 8, 8, moved down the stack on each set
Standing OH triceps ext w/ez bar- 68x6x3
Dips, BW- 10, 6,4
Felt pretty well spent so I went home. I know that every session can’t be your best, but…
Glad the running is bringing you some peace. Sorry about the stress in your life. Before things went sideways you had a comp on your mind…any further thoughts about that?
Tootsie roll, you popped in your log and I didn’t even know!
You’re just as busy but always have well-thought out comments. I was getting dumber by the post. But I just had fried okra so I’m good to go again lol
Sorry for your lack of appetite, sometimes we just get sick of food. I was just arguing yesterday (or the day before) that I’m so tired of eating. Before training, after training. It’s like WHHHHHYYYYYY.
If it’s a phase though, you’ll be back to your normal self soon.
I had to push ego aside for the hooks too. But you gotta do it, the muscles are going to get worked EVEN MORE. It’s so easy to plateau when your grip limits you. The grip doesn’t get stronger quicker than muscles. IMO. I have no medical journals to back that up lol
Nice work on the PR
pendlays look good too.
cannoli’s in Sicily where insane- ricotta.
I think I like hook grip over straps just saying
veg, you have PLENTY of past badass sessions to make up and exceed for any regular ol plain training days
(and i think you’re last session was NOTHING to be ashamed off!! those dips to begin with are astounding!!)
you are turbo! fear not!!!
kmcnyc wrote:

You can hook grip?! Not fair. I’ve tried and tried but I just can’t wrap my hand around the bar like I need to to do it. I think straps are for bros and pussies. But they really help on db rows. Without them, I end up with my hand open and the db was hanging from my 4 fingers by the time I finish.
I wish my appetite would piss off! But it’s clear you need to find a way to get your calories if your training is suffering. Don’t go wasting away on us eh!
could it be the warmer weather reducing your appetite? maybe because your water intake has increased or something like that?
i don’t know. sorry to hear that your training hasn’t been feeling so good, though. times like this suck! hope you find the fire real soon.
