Fine-Tuning the Machine & Tacking on the Vanity Plates

Just sent PM

Bruise, what bruise? ;D

When you see me doing OH DB carries in my log (possibly as soon as Saturday) then yes, I did steal it from my new wifey’s log.

Nikki- It’s not stealing, what’s mine is yours baby! Seriously, I love those DB carries. Great conditioning. I ss a whole bunch of them. Voila! No need for the f-ing treadmill.

Today was a pretty good day. I slept in because I got home at like 11 last night after working all day and then training last night. Thursday is my day off, so I laid low and went to the gym in the afternoon, when it is QUIET. And hopefully free of knuckle-heads.

Today’s training:

Legs/core

Warmed up w/some wall squats, jumps. Was really itching to start lifting, so I barreled ahead.

RDL
1x8x95 (feeling out my form), 2x8x145, 2x6x165, 1x3x195 (back got a lil cranky, so …), 6x6x175 really slow negatives

After that I was sure that my back wasn’t injured, just burnt from work yesterday. I bend over a lot and sometimes it catches up w/me.

FS working on exploding up outta the hole
1x3x95 (felt weird, like not enough intensity so I added some plates)
5x6x115

DB Bulgarian Split Squats off a step w/3 risers, took me like 10 minutes to collect everything and get set up :frowning: By then the after work crowd was filtering in too. 1x7x35’s, 1x8x35’s, 1x6x35’s each leg

By the last set on each leg I was really fatiguing and losing my balance. I hit the core a little last night w/carries, so I just did 3x30 Janda situps.

Done

Went home, ate 16 oz of greek yogurt and went to get a massage. I decided to try this place by my office. Only $1/minute. It was a very good, if odd, hybrid massage. Part swedish firm, tui na, hot stone, and reflexology. She did the entire thing with me laying prone while she climbed around the table, kneeled on my ass, etc. When she was done I really wanted my quads done more thoroughly, so paid for an extra 15 minutes. So nice, the place is open 7 days/wk. Pretty good value IMO. Very satisfied, will definitely go back.

Thanks for your help on my hip issue. I definitely will be doing my rehab now that I’ve properly got it into my head what needs to be done and it isn’t simply that my hip flexors are too tight. Nice squatting!

Nice job on the Rdl’s, impressive weight.

Rest day today. It was anything but restful though. Worked about 11 hrs. Couldn’t get home for lunch. But, one of the nice things about Jersey is the diners. You can get omelette there any time of the day and the one by my office has a kick-ass salad bar. They even have stuffed grape leaves on it. So I went there for lunch and then took a nap on one of the tables back at the office before the afternoon schedule started.
I should not complain that our practice is busy. Everybody wants to be busy, right? But Fridays can get out of control and the pace can crank up to “frenzy” in the order of just 10 minutes. Luckily I honestly love my job. We are currently having a super fun time designing our own kinesiotaping patterns. It’s like arts and crafts and figuring out a puzzle at the same time. I really like doing that kind of stuff. Working with my hands and using my brain to help people. But then there are the whiney ones and the people who only come in once they are in a complete crisis and the people who chew your time for no good reason and those who get angry because their insurance company has decided not to pay. I left the office tonight, opened my sunroof, blasted my stereo and drove… to the liqueur store for a bottle of single-malt. Thanks to Glennfidich for making my evening better.

Back to the gym tomorrow. And apparently back to winter. (I totally went sleeveless at the office today. Can’t wait for spring.)

BTW someone PM’d me about the closet eating comment that I made. I am a LITERAL closet eater. I go into the closet to eat between patients.

Nice training! And I’ll second that “what bruise?”

Great work on those RDLs! That’s super hard!

Ugh! Jealous re: that massage. I would do anything for a massage. And I mean anything .

Glenfiddich! Lol. Good for you girl. You deserve it!

Ahhh a massage, I missed mine this last week cause my kid was in the hospital ~ so disappointing. Then I tried to reschedule and she is booked and gone til the 9th. I know I should go somewhere else in the mean time but I am kind of picky and she knows where all my hurty hurts are & just how to fix me up.

Very impressive workouts, you have my attention!

Also on the BB comment, I dont think it was offensive- just your opinion on the subject. I tend to bit a brash and honest though… I worked out at an actual gym with other people while my son was in the hospital and I did get some random what are your training for comments?? Are you a bb?? That kind of thing, I get the strangest looks when I say Nope, I just enjoy it and want to be healthier than the average person.

Kinesiotaping sounds interesting - I remember Bushidobadboy posting about it. Do you rate it?
They do it where I get my ART but not the same practitioner. I thought about trying it but I’m allergic to tape, unless they happen to use hypoallergenic stuff.

I never wanted a massage more than after you described yours.
I gotta call up some spas around me.

Stuffed grape leaves? Never heard of that, but sounds like an awesome salad bar.

Started my day lounging, but had to go into the office for a few hours to catch up on some insurance paperwork… one of the least fun parts of my job. Since I was headed over there I decided to pack a bag and train at my secondary gym that’s near the office. I go there in fits and spurts, but I hadn’t been there in about a month. Much to my surprise there is some new equipment. Most of it looked pretty good. I’ll definitely go back and try out the new leg press. I hated the old one. It has hopefully found a new use as an anchor or something. Anyhow, there was one contraption that I have NEVER seen at any other facility. A Hammer Strength 4-Way Neck machine. It looks like a freaking torture device. Very frightening.

Back/Triceps

Lat Pulldown: 3x8x110

DB one-arm bench row: 2x6x65, 2x4x70 each arm (damn that grip strength, but I’m working on it)

Seated cable row, neutral grip: 1x8x100, 2x8x120

Straight arm cable pulldown: 3x8x90

Machine pullover: 3x8x80

Dips: 1x8xbw, 1x7xbw, 1x8xbw

SS: Skullcrusher/close-grip BP: 1x8x55 (each), 2x8x60 (each)

Cable pressdown w/rope: 3x8x70

I ran into a patient in the locker room. She is a little younger than me, super cute single-mom. I really like her and even though I usually do not have “personal” relationships w/patients, I could totally be friends w/her. She is interested in starting to lift weights, but doesn’t know anything about it. Yeah. I think I have a new project girl/training partner to work with. She is a former dancer/pilates-type. I’m excited. And it will force me to go over to gym #2 more often. I’m paying almost $50/month including taxes. Yes, NJ taxes gym memberships. Fuckers.

After the gym I picked up my besty who is preggers. She has been craving hibachi, so we went to a Japanese steakhouse/hibachi joint for dinner. Good times. I had vegetables and hot sake. YUM.

sounds like a pretty good day once the paperwork was done. yum to japanese food, indeed.

had to google that machine to get an image. does look kinda scary…

Masch- Thanks, and RDL’s are hard, but they are one of my favorites. Go get a massage, you deserve it and your body will thank you.

Cal- The kinesiotaping has been very effective in our experience. Most of the patients that we have taped have had longer-term/chronic issues that just never fully resolved. Also, there is a hypoallergenic product. Haven’t tried it yet. We are going through rolls of tape like lightning, so I’ll be oredering tomorrow. Lots of people have sensitive skin, I’ll post about the hypoallergenic stuff soon.

N8tive- I hear ya, I am not seeing my acupuncturist until the 3rd. Ohhh, how I long to be stuck full of needles and covered in a space blanket. The massage was really nice though. I’m going to make a point to do both from now on. I see the acupuncturist every other week, so maybe massage on the other weeks? We’ll see. Oh, and must have been an experience for you to train in a commercial gym. Aren’t all the freaks amusing?

Nikki- You also should go get a massage. Some really good bodywork is in order with all the heavy training and dieting that you’ve been doing. Pretty sure that stuffed grape leaves are Greek, a lot of diners here are owned by Greek families so there are usually some Greek items on their menus… along w/500 other things!

Alexus- It was a good day. Today will probably be much of the same, as I have more paperwork to finish. Decided to go to gym instead of completing it yesterday. I was sick of sitting. Couldn’t tolerate even 3 hrs (with breaks). I commend anyone who has a desk job. I could not possibly do it because I would go looney.

Nlmain- Thanks for posting the pic. Doesn’t that look like the strangest piece of gym equipment that you’ve ever seen? I couldn’t really figure out how you were supposed to use it. I also didn’t know that many people trained their neck either. I’m just dying to catch someone using it. Will definitely have to go train there soon to investigate further.

Glad to see you’re doing well. I need to show my gf this log. She’s actually vegan and I’m always trying to help her find more ways to get protein in.

I miss diners, but I’ve traded them for coffee shops and brew pubs. BTW your dumb bell rows look very strong to me. Grip can’t be too bad!

LMAO that machine looks kinda S&M-ish, no? :stuck_out_tongue:

Our strength is identical and we both SS skullcrushers with CGBP. My soulmate.

I’m sold, it’s important to pamper yourself with massages and such. With all the training and life, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. Not that training isn’t caring for yourself. But with a massage, muscles aren’t micro-tearing and crap.

Tonight’s training: Chest/shoulders

Warm up w/ some Bradford Presses w/bar

BP 1x5x80, 1x5x85, 2x3x95, 1x5x95, 3x3x100

Incline Press 1x5xbar, 2x5x75, 1x5x85

Guess I just wasn’t in a pressing state of mind, so I moved on…

SS: Decline Pushups off step w/6 risers, DB single arm MP:
5x10 pushups/5 single arm MP, 1st set I used a 30 lb DB, other 4 a 25 lb DB

OH DB Carries, as little rest as possible b/w them: 1 single-arm (each arm), 1 both arms, 1 cross (each arm); I did each of these w/ 25 lb DB, then 30 lb DB for ~100 ft, so total of 10 carries x ~100 ft (Just realized that is a lot of walking w/DB’s in your hands.)

Lateral Raises: 3x8x15’s

Farmer Walks: 6x~75 ft x 60 lb DB’s (Lost my grip about 10 ft out on the last one.)

Finished

I’ve been smitten with the OH DB carries lately too. I’m still at the drunken toddler stage of getting them down though.

So, I’m kinda curious. Do you have any ideas as to what your macros look like? When you just graze, how much protein are you getting?

AQ- Good luck w/your girl, but I’m a veg not a vegan. Most of my protein still comes from animals: dairy and eggs.

Nadia- Thanks, the grip is coming along. Really pushing it w/farmer walks and such.

Nikki, sweetcheeks- S&M… you’re getting me all hot and bothered, and you better be pampering your fine self!

pch2- DB carries rock! I honestly have no idea about my macros. I eat what seems sensible to me at the time. I always get somewhere in the range of 50+ grams of protein (currently Dymatize Elite XT (2 scoops) + organic skim milk + peanut butter + ground flax and cinnamon (for taste and phytochemicals and such) immediately after I train. Throughout the rest of the day I eat plenty of stuff like nuts, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, beans/legumes and eggs to add to my protein total. I think that the most important thing for me is making sure to get the higher quality protein in right after I train. Timing is key. I also use a pre-training supplement w/creatine conjugates.
