ps. btw I keep remembering that I never answered this question from a long time ago (its plaguing my mind damnit!). About the pushups that I miss, the shoulders feel fine and all, its just that with the Oly I can only train pushups 1x a week whereas I used to do them more (same with my pullups). Oh well, 1x is better than none I guess. I need more pushup variations btw!

alexus- Yeah, whatever re: bf. I could deload and then start up again on the GVT but I’m itching for the low volume/high intensity stuff. I’ll run GVT again but probably not until fall. We’ll see.

brute- No worries on being sensitive. This has been a bizarro relationship from the get-go. Just seems like it is time to move on now. As far as work is concerned there is no shortage of folks who need us these days. Gardening and weekend warrior activities are now in full swing.

MiM- Thanks and yes, the past month has been CRAZY. Looking forward to quieter times ahead, but honestly not betting on it. There’s always something wacky going on in veggieworld!

Masch- Thanks mama! I’m planning to finish up the GVT on Thursday. I get it about the pushups now. Oly takes precedent for now in your training. Oh, and have you tried the rolling medicine ball pushups? That’s a fun variation. You have to really pay attention whilst doing them or you can fall on your face so easily. Let me know if you give 'em a go!

brute- I’m ready to move on in my training life too. GVT is taxing and I am dying to see what my lifts/#s look like now. For example, I’m really wondering how much I can rep on those RDLs for less volume?! Soon we shall see…

Cal- Thanks. I have naturally thick arms. Lifting just makes them look better. I’m planning to deload/play around in the gym for a week or so-- back to letting my intuition be my guide for a bit. Also gonna add in some sprints. More KB work. Haven’t exactly decided if I’m going to run another ‘program’ or just do my thing. I’m also planning to make some time to meet with my coach to work on technique.


My legs are still feeling pretty beat up from Monday’s session. Really was working on proper technique: breaking at the hips and sitting back. My adductors and hammies are feeling it big time… still!

That thing in my back isn’t totally resolved. Better, but there. I’m foam rolling the crap out of it momentarily. We’ll see how the MPs go today, if they go. That overhead pressing seems to stir it up. I’m going back to my acupuncturist this afternoon.

On a food note: I made the MOST tasty braised kale yesterday. Used some kettle-brewed, hoppy ale for the braising liquid. WOW! If you think you don’t like kale then you should make it like this and re-access your feelings regarding this amazing vegetable.

I was super tired last night. Could hardly keep my eyes open to watch the Phillies game. Ate a bunch of pasta, drank a beer and went to bed. Slept about 9.5 hours. I would be a very happy camper if I got that much every night.

Off to the gym now for benching and ?MPs? (hopefully!)

Today was my final GVT session and it was AWESOME! Killed the bench and was able to MP. Satisfaction.

Thursday training: Chest/shoulders GVT

Warmup: tubing pullaparts, pullups, bradford presses, shoulder mobility stuff/dislocates

BP @ 80: 10 x 10! FUCK YEAH! There was no way that I was accepting less than this honestly. Felt fantastic.

MP @ 60: 10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9, 9, 9, 7; 86 reps. I’m happy with that considering my back wouldn’t even let me do these last session.

Lateral raises, 20 lb DBs: 4 x 8

Cross-carries, ~100 ft: 35, 40 each side

Pushups: 3 x 10, rolling medicine ball; 7 x 10 wide

Spent. Literally.

I trained in the morning because I had an afternoon acupuncture appointment and was planning to kill it at all costs and let my miracle-worker acupuncturist clean up the mess. Excellent plan except that I just chugged some grape humapro and got 2 shots of expresso in me before the gym. I’m not good at eating a lot in the morning or right before I train. Both leave me feeling out of sorts. So I opted to train in this semi-fasted state. Worked out ok, but I hit the wall energetically while I was in the shower. Arggh. Worst feeling in the world!

I ate some quiche and jumped in the car to go to acupuncture. Still felt depleted, so I stopped at Baskin-Robbins and got a milkshake. Cruised down to S Jersey in a blood sugar flux, felt out of it. Sunshine and wind in my hair via the sunroof, not to mention aggressive drivers and a traffic pace of about 80 mph, kept me awake.

My back feels incredible. She did some cupping which worked wonders. Will post some pics later tonight. Just got a call from my sis. She wants to drink margaritas in celebration of Cinco de Mayo AND she has cheap Nuvarings for me! She’s trying to get pregnant, but keeps filling the Rx 'cause she gets them for $10/ring… I pay $29+ from Canada. They cost like $74 EACH at CVS. /rant on overpriced birth control
