Fine-Tuning the Machine & Tacking on the Vanity Plates

You work hard and it shows.

My year of the leg mantra has turned into year of the Veggie thighs.

You should be proud. I like getting compliments from those type of people, too. Who seem to be hard to come by…

Some days you just get the craziest comments! Happens to me, too. I don’t dress to impress at the gym. Well, maybe once in a while. I have yet to wear any green leopard print volleyball shorts, though!

I love wearing sweats to the gym, except on leg days. I like to watch my legs work with some shorts.

That cop line is almost as random as the ankle mobility lol

The other day I got the best icebreaker of my life: Can you read this for me? (Guy was referring to some pills) He’s a young fellow, I don’t know why he couldn’t read it.
My bf knows how much I hate being bothered with stupid crap like that so he steps in between me and this guy and says “Sure, it says…”

Oh how I love the gym characters.

OMG, pendlay row GVT! Insane(ly awesome!)!

Aww! That was probably his awkward way of hitting on you! Cute. And FTR, we always talk about “that guy” at the gym, but who am I kidding, sometimes I’m “that guy.” in fact, my pick up lines go like this:

Masherano lasciviously looks strapping young buck up and down
Mascherano: “You must take in a lot of calories…”
Young buck: uneasy laugh

My creepy awkwardness knows no bounds.

The closet eating still makes me laugh.

Enjoy the acupuncture!

^^No pick up line you say is creepy or awkward. Just entirely flattering.

Fixed.

Killer Pendlay’s Veggie, those things are brutal enough just doing 3-4 sets, but oh yeah…you’re crazy, I forgot

Can somebody please tell me who the hell picks commercial gym music? They play the weirdest shit ever! If I hear that song about ‘doing it in the backseat’ one more time I’m going to have to break something or throw up or I don’t know… bitch and complain. Thankfully we have iPods. Seriously, most of the stuff that they play is straight garbage. Pure noise pollution.

Alright, worked 10 hours today. Managed a one hour nap during siesta/lunch time. Saw a bunch of patients and did a TON of manual therapy today. Generally I use tools when I can, but oh no, not for the today’s crowd. Lots of headaches and such which required my skillful hands for direct therapy. Its cool, but fatigue set in a bit near the end of my session particularly in my right wrist.

Made it to the gym at about 9:15 pm. Late, but at least the place is clearing out by then. Ran into a patient on my way in and she was floored that I was just coming from the office. My schedule is wacky, but I’m completely off tomorrow: rest day with afternoon acupuncture… can’t wait to go get stuck full of needles! I love that stuff so much. So great for my recovery after a long workday that was capped with an intense GVT session.

Training: Back/Triceps GVT

Warmup: some mobility stuff and pullaparts with resistance tubing, very brief because I’m really loose after work and it was late

Pendlay rows @ 93: 10, 10, 9, 9, 7, 8, 8, 7, 8, 8; 84 reps by my mental arithmetic

Some big dude caught my attention in a mirror in between sets and gave me the thumbs up, said “Man, those are really hard. Nice job!” Happy to be recognized for kicking ass by a guy that looked pretty hard-core/no bs.

BB standing OH triceps extensions @ 63: 10, 10, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 9; 86 reps

During those some youngish guy in a Mets hat was doing various mobility drills, db stuff, working on his pitching motion, etc. asked me if I was a cop!?! I said no, but after I finished up I went over to ask him why he would think that. He said, “Well, you WERE lifting pretty heavy there.” What he didn’t say but I bet he thought was “You look kinda butch in your baggy sweatpants and wife-beater.” Oh well. My gym attire runs the full spectrum, what can I say!

After I finished the main lifts I went over to the roman chair with the intention of doing pullups and dips. I did some singles, but I have a ropey spot along the right side of my mid-back that was being bitchy… a product of my work no doubt and my right wrist was not happy. That’s all good because I will be renewed by the acupuncturist tomorrow. She always puts me back together and balances my stubborn chi.

Accessory work: Cable rope pressdowns 4 or 5 sets, cable javelin throw extensions 3 sets each side

DONE. Came home, poured a glass of single-malt. Eating quiche and a ton of other stuff for the next couple of hours.

I ate a bunch of stuff in the closet at the office today: 3 hard-boiled eggs, a bunch of raspberries, a bunch of almonds, a banana, a blood orange, a bag of raw spinach, few handfuls of pepitas, dozen or so yuppie crackers, dark chocolate with hazelnuts. It was a busy day, so every time I had a free minute I stuffed something in my mouth. Been taking the humapro and I think it helps a lot with recovery/decreased doms.

I felt really great besides the obvious over-use stuff that is purely occupational in nature. Another great session. Looking forward to rest, recovery eating and sunshine (I HOPE!) tomorrow.

Finally looked up Pendlay Rows…I’ll be doing them tonight!

Sweats + Beater = FUCKING SEXY!!! I may be in teh minority, but damnit if I don’t get turned on by a hot woman working out in this outfit!!

I’ll be snacking all day today as well. Especially since I’m running again. Good times in here as always.

And Masch, “creepy” would be the LAST thing I’d think up when it comes to you.

RE: veggie and her pendlays, I did 5 sets of 10 last night with 135 and thought I was going to die. No WAY could I have done 5 more x 10. I’d probably still be there!

I’m sad that you’re ignoring your thread of admiration in SAMA. also lol at yuppy crackers for the irony.

Another long day capped off by a killer GVT session. Still dealing with the bitchy musculoskeletal thing in the right side of my back. Whatever, occupational hazard. I’m not too concerned as it isn’t keeping me from doing anything. I actually benched better tonight than I have in a long time?!? Quick post tonight. Have an early morning tomorrow on account of the convention. I plan to come home tomorrow night and curl up in bed and catch up on logs and drink beer and sleep a lot. Sunday will be my squat/DL session and I want to be ready!

Tonight’s training: Chest/shoulders GVT

Warmup: shoulder mobility drills, bradfords with the bar, some pullups with same width grip as bench (fairly narrow)

BP @ 80: 10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 8, 8, 6, 8, 9; 88 reps, I think that’s the most I’ve gotten so far during this GVT program.

Some big fucking scary dude came over to complement me on my arch after the last set. He spent a few minutes working with me on my bench set-up. Wow, now I know what the whole leg drive thing is all about. I had no idea that I could use my leverages so well on the bench. I might actually start to like it! Did another set of 5 with a handoff from the big dude. Felt amazing and super easy… and that’s AFTER I did 10 sets with 60 second rests between. As long as I don’t get too much heavier, I think that the BW bench is very close at hand. Nice. After I finish with the GVT program I am definitely going to work with the coach on my bench. Want to bring up that lift and technique will help a lot.

MP @ 60: 10, 10, 8, 6, 8, 8, 8, 7, 8, 7; 80 reps, ropey mid-back was not helping matters

DB incline press 3x8x35’s

More pullups, wide grip. Hung from the handles to stretch my lats.

Lateral raises 2x10x20’s

Done and home for bed and fast sleeping.

Can’t wait to catch up with all of you tomorrow

nice. big fucking scary dudes ftw!! glad to hear you got some decent peoples in your gym and are feeling excited about benching. drink beer… funny, that is what i’m planning for this evening and it is something i haven’t done for the longest time.

what’s humapro?

I’ve been wondering, too.

Humapro:

I officially don’t like Pendlay Rows. I probably shouldn’t have started with 185 on the bar, either! :stuck_out_tongue:

Can the big scary benching coach come to my gym?

Nice job on keeping the volume going. That’s one heavy Standing DB TRi extension! For a lot of reps! I’m going to have to test mine.

Hiding in the closet to eat all your healthy foods. That made me laugh. We’re a bunch of kooks!

Great news on the bench. With improved technique and a shit ton of volume, I’m sure a bw bench will be yours soon.

Did this guy know that you were doing GVT and knowingly waited for you to finish all 10 sets? Or was it by chance?
Either way, it’s awesome that he didn’t disturb you in between sets. People do that a lot with me, and I don’t seem to be bitchy but I take timed rests as serious business haha

Is there a difference between a bent over barbell row and a Pendlay row that I am missing? I checked out some youtube clips of a Pendlay row and they look the same to me?

I iz confuse.

pendlays hit the upper back more than regular… start back flat, lower back arched hard and you pull forcefully from the floor.
