Fine-Tuning the Machine & Tacking on the Vanity Plates

Oh tell me about it. People literally look at me and continue to stand there when I’m doing farmer walks with 70s.

I like pull-ups at the cable station to, usually do them in the power rack. Very nice handles haha

Veg, you’re definetely an interesting person <3

Thanks for stopping by everyone. Glad you like the t-shirt, maybe we should have a t-vixen version made. That would be hot.

For what it’s worth the blueberry fiasco involved 5 different grocery store employees trying to get them to scan and then manually putting the price in for me. It took 10 fucking minutes. I had taken some pre-digested essential amino acids right after my session, so I wasn’t worried that I was catabolic, but I was pretty fucking hungry. I almost opened something up while I stood around watching the idiocy unfold.

I have decided to commence the GVT today! Hurray! I love this program for so many reasons, which I will surely be writing about over the next month or so. Should Mr Poliquin be reading this log (I’m sure that he isn’t, but still),my apologies, but I am taking a few liberties with the program. Planning to stick to the basics of it, but will tweek things for my own personal preferences and also modify based on previous experiences.

Took some progress pix for the sake of documentation.

I weighed in at 133.2 lbs this morning, completely empty before I even drank a glass of water.

side

legs, not putting up a rear view… go over to SAMA if you want to look at recent pix of my ass/legs from that perspective

I’m for any program that causes you to strip ;D

That’ll be the only way I could do the program too, with modifications. Maybe seeing you put on some muscle mass will convince me.
Last I checked I was 140.5, slowly making my way to the 130s, a weight that I don’t want to be lol

Anyway, not about me. Looking good Wifey, can’t wait to see what you brew up

Ok, I’m way late here, but yes, Frenchie and Veg, I think you’re right: more lifting = more T = more horniness. That and T is highest in the morning, so I probably have that going for me, too. And Nikki, I’m sure it’s the added factor that I think most of us (if not all) feel sexier from lifting. Sorry about the derail, Veg!

Moving on…

A girl after my own heart! (I’m also occasionally OCD with the numbers.)

I’m excited for you to start GVT! Can’t wait to hear how it goes for you (and hopefully see some awesome progress)! Beautiful pics, my dear!

Because I know that:

  1. after 3 or 4 sets I’m a sweaty, sexy, hot mess

AND

  1. I have been busting my ass to maintain these legs

AND

  1. people stare anyway when I’m doing a GVT session

I couldn’t help myself but to wear this outfit to squat in!

Training recap to follow, need to go eat for a while first.

Decided that I can multi-task. Not very much to type, but a whole lot to lift!

Legs/lower

Warmup: 4x10 wall squats, 3x10 spiderman crawls, couple form check/mobility drill sets of fs with bar

FS @ 115: 10, 10, 10, 10, 10*, 10, 10, 8, 8, 10 (*This set felt so fantastic, short-term neural adaptation is bliss!)

Went well, that is a total of 96 reps and 11, 040 lbs lifted. And talk about time under tension. Reps are controlled with as much explosive force up as I can muster. Tough near the end. I use a standard 90 second rest period between sets and I’m strict about it, no slacking off.

Rested for about 5-6 minutes and set up for RDLs

RDLs @ 145: 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10**, 8, 10, 9, 6 (**Grip started to fail a bit but I kept it together. This is a vast improvement from my last round of GVT. Real grip issue and I was repping 125 then. Very happy with this!)

FInis

The RDLs felt fine. Not gonna say that they were EASY, but the only reason I didn’t get 100 total reps was my grip. I’m happy with 93 reps for a total of 13,485 lbs lifted.

I do not do accessory work on the leg day. Not a good idea and unnecessary in my opinion. I think that the program originally calls for calf raises, but I don’t train those fuckers normally, so why now?! My ass/hips are a little sore now. I’ll stretch for a while and rub down with liniment before I turn in… and the glass of bourbon won’t hurt. I will be happy to walk normally tomorrow.

Since the training isn’t really exciting I am considering logging what I eat. This program leaves me absolutely ravenous. I was seduced by a bag of Munchos in the drug store on my way home. I sweat so much that I figured that I was salt-depleted anyway. I will literally eat on and off for a couple of hours now. Since I basically trust my food instincts and this program is so brutal I eat whatever tickles my fancy. Anybody for vegetarian food porn?

Oh, and tonight is the first time I have squatted without the hamstring taped in 30 days. Felt fine, smooth motion and no pain. Hip drive was strong and symmetrical. Success!

damn, you look nice and I’m impressed with the volume.

Love the shirt. Will be very interested to hear how you find the GVT (and see the results, of course)! I’ve been thinking about it for my squats… Would like to give it a proper go before the end of this year.

I think you get me re: ‘happy time’. I think the pill killed that for me. Or maybe the combo of heavy weights (for me ha!) and hitting the big three-oh caused me to discover it. Probably both (had been off the pill for a couple years before hitting the gym). The ring works by suppressing ovulation like the pill does (which is why there is no problem skipping fake bleeds), so guess I just figured it would be the same as the pill in that respect.

Have you tried gluten-free to see if that’s the source of inflammation? I have a close friend with whom that turned out to be the case. She was on accutane, the whole nine yards. Skin is much better now.

I didn’t even think to try gluten-free. Just been trying to avoid vege oils and been plucking up the courage to try and remove dairy. I have low levels of inflammation that are fairly persistent but very occasionally get an unsightly cyst. Needed to get one removed by a plastic surgeon :frowning: Actually went on accutane because of that - but never completed the course. I really suck at at taking meds regularly and had significant concerns about that one. It dried out my ear wax which was freaky. Have since learned diet can have a significant impact so want to try that instead… Thanks for the info.

YEAHHH!!! ha ha!! GVT RULES! love love love it! word, you did fronties and dls the same workout?..hmm…that’s serious shit. i don’t know your training style, but i bet if you did them on their own you’d get the full 100 no prob, if you can get 93 after the fronts you can totally get 100 easy–oh! and grip goes out first for me too:P so lame and frustrating.

You look f*ckin hot! you rock those short shorts for squatting–i think everyone thanks you for it at the gym as well! you have a responsibility to display them when they are looking great and squatting away

I <3 your back!!! mmmm, mmmmm GOOOD!

Now tell me, what are you trying to get out of by doing GVT as opposed to doing more cardio? I only ask, cause I ask everyone…and I’m thinking of doing it myself and already have my own answer

Good stuff in here chicka!! You are a hawt mama too

I honestly like to torture myself. No, seriously, I love the mental and physical challenge of this program. It does get your heart rate up and keep it up, but it is a different kind of breathless than cardio.

I HATE CARDIO. I basically refuse to do it.

The real reasons that I run this program are:

  1. Change of pace- so simple, go in, blast out reps, go home-- you don’t have to think about what you’re doing.

  2. Put on some size for my next heavy, strength-focused program (and for summer: think white hot and jacked at the Jersey shore!)

  3. Muscular endurance, a cardio-ish concept, but valuable IMO. Also helps me with the long days at work. I move, bend, twist, lift all day. Gardening season and weekend warrior activities will keep me mighty busy over the next couple of months

  4. Re-enforcement of the “can do” attitude, as in, if I can put up 100 squats- with good form- I can surely nail JUST ONE with 4 plates.

So, there are other reasons but those are the main ones. I’m happy to discuss this program. Sounds like a few people are thinking about trying it. Just ask.

Hey Veg, awesome…AWESOME shit in here, seriously! Just wanted to inform/ask if you’d seen the article on a competitor’s site about “20 Tips For The Vegetarian Bodybuilder”? the site rhymes with um…hobbyshifting dot com, haha

Just saw it and thought I’d let you know in case you hadn’t seen it, Miss Destroyer of Vegetables.

Oh, and I gotta get me some of them shorts to squat in

Thanks Ink. Decent read. NOT a fan of that site so I hadn’t seen it. Alas, I could’ve written that article with a few key changes. Mostly due to the fact that I am strength focused. BB just doesn’t appeal to me. I like to lift heavy shit, ya know? I very much disagreed with the author’s suggestion to “keep sessions short.” WTF?! Even my 20 set GVT session last night took an hour. Also could care less about my body fat %. I’ve never had it tested. Although it would be an interesting thing to check out, I’m pretty satisfied with monitoring my body in other ways. And I think I would know if I was losing muscle or getting fat. Fortunately for me I seem not to be predisposed to either of those things. Someone once told me that I have “low fat potential.” Guess it was a complement?!

Alisa- Thanks.

alexus- Thanks. Good luck with the skin. Keep checking back for GVT session recaps. Fun program. Oh, and “dirty 30” FTW. Kicked in for me at about 26. Hope it is a nice long ride!

coyotegal- Thanks. Lifting is always good stuff, no?

brute- GVT rules. I like your logic regarding the shorts. HAH(!), guess I do have sort of an obligation to wear them at least once in a while! My logic was based on the fact that I was gonna get really sweaty even faster if I wore more clothes AND those shorts have a seamless crotch- no camel toe.

I gotcha. I’m not a fan of their site either really, it popped up as a thing on facebook and I thought “Oh, Veggie loves veggies, I’ll show her”, but yeah I’m sure you could have (and in fact, maybe you should) write a better article than that.

Hell, you could write some vegetarian muscle building awesomeness article with recipes and all that shit, and maybe it could either be published on this site or stickied in the nutrition forum.

Hey, to sway the vote, a pic or two of your results wouldn’t hurt either

That’s funny, I don’t do my GVT-like training for size. Almost the opposite in fact. Although it enables my next growth phase. Do you tend to pack on more muscle with it?

I also like the “re-enforcement of the “can do” attitude”–helps me realize I can always push it a little more! I’m excited for your training! The numbers may not be “exciting” but like you told me, it’s definitely not boring! Anyone who’s done it knows just how exciting it is.
