I had my doc switch my hormones this week. I had been off of them for months and felt freakin awesome. 1 week back on and I feel like a robot on automatic pilot. even the hubbie noticed. Hopefully the new stuff will be better.

I think that you’re right about T levels and women lifters. Also, there may be some bias going on if you take into account that people tend to do what they are good at, and women with higher T, in general, probably make better lifters. Know what I mean?

Never had my levels tested, but based on my horniness and hairiness, I always assumed that I was on the higher end of “normal” for a woman. The fact that the ring hasn’t touched me in those departments may be proof of that. I don’t know.

One thing that I do know is that I love being able to manipulate my hormones in such a way as to make my life less complicated. No weak, deloadish week to screw up my training. Personally, I think that my strength gains have been enhanced by the fact that my training isn’t disrupted by some unplanned hormonal fluctuation. I’ve never had a kid, so my body has been continuously ovulating for like 20 years. I just gave my ovaries an extended vacation, not shutting down shop permanently. That’s how I think of it.

I do the same on the pills - basically I go right through the “prescribed week”. I usually have my period every 3 months or more. I’m with you on the manipulation thing.

as far as natural test levels go I’m being treated for premature menaupause (started at 14) hence my whole life has been with high test low estrogen levels. my teens were pretty wild. got that check when I was 20 and have never been truly happier as when I am not on any hormonal therapy. On the other hand not taking them would lead to a handful of health issues so I’m trying to strike a balance.

Tonight it was ON. My session was great. I will admit that I was hopped up on some pre-training stuff that I haven’t taken in a bit. Did some volume which I wasn’t exactly planning, but my training is kind of intuitive in some ways. Seems to work and I hardly ever get myself in trouble :slight_smile:

DB bench row: 2x5x70, 4x3x75 (Some muscle-bound dude came over and offered me his straps during the 75’s. I declined and thanked him for his friendly gesture. He, of course, asked me if I was training for a “sport.” Said “no.” He said that I was “impressive.” Nice, I guess.)

BB standing OH tri ext: 1x10x58, 2x8x58

SS: skullcrusher/CGBP @ 63: 8/8, 8/6, 8/10

The figure lady with the tan and gold chains that I made the snide “food weighing” comment to a while back was using the aisle for walking lunges while I was setting up my farmers’ walks. First, she asked me if I “do cardio.” My honest answer had to be “no”, but I told her that I am a part-time dog walker, so I count that. Apparently she didn’t think that was clever or funny. Then, when I got the DBs out to the aisle to get ready to do my farmers’ walks she asked me if i was going to do lunges. I told her that the heaviest that I’ve gone on walking lunge is 60’s and only got a few reps. Guess she’s interested in my training or something. Explained that I was doing some grip training. She seemed perturbed.

I also saw some guy that is always there doing serious shit using some fat gripz. He walked by while I was doing dips, so I stopped him to ask him how if liked them and if I could check them out. My hand doesn’t even come CLOSE to wrapping around one of those babies. I have the tiniest hands, ring finger size is < 4. But I think I might get some anyway. We’ll see.

EDIT: Man, I just bumped one foot against the other in bed and remembered that I bounced a 75 off of my left foot during the bench rows. OUCH! I really need to be more careful in the gym. Sometimes I totally don’t pay attention to what I’m doing… and look what happens. I was lucky, but it probably will be an interesting bruise. (But no where close to Bre’s epic foot bruise.)

i got tested for androgen levels because i had some concerns about hair / skin inflammation. they came back normal but i was told that some people can have more sensitivity to the levels that are produced (more receptors or something). i’ve since heard that they need to check levels at different times in they day to get a proper assessment. whatever. i suspect the skin inflammation is more to do with diet (need to experiment with cutting dairy in particular) and hair is probably some italian or something in me lol.

i think i’d really miss my happy time with hormone altering contraception. used to be on the pill and it wasn’t until i got really into the gym after having been off the pill for a couple years that i properly discovered having a happy time. but… i like it. well, sometimes it drives me nuts… but… i like it. that being said there were benefits to going months without bleeding, tis true.

no pills or hormonal contraptions for me, tyvm… we take our chances with condoms and in 14 yrs together only had 1 surprise baby, so I think we’re good :slight_smile: I’m fairly certain we are done, so hubby will get fixed.(thats funny to say!)

Are you saying what I think you’re saying? If so that was the MAJOR reason that I swore off the pill when I was younger. WTF do you need bc for if you don’t want sex or can’t get there whilst doing it?!

Good luck with your skin. Have you tried gluten-free to see if that’s the source of inflammation? I have a close friend with whom that turned out to be the case. She was on accutane, the whole nine yards. Skin is much better now.

alexus- I promise that I will get the wall squat vid up THIS WEEK. I was gonna get my sis to take one for me last night, but we were drinking pink bubbly and watching hockey (Flyers slaughtered the Islanders!) while we caught up with each other. By then I was a little schwilly and the demonstration probably would’ve been funny, but not accurate.

Masch- Don’t think I ever detailed the squat overhaul. The main change was that he moved the bar way down on my back. Also, he brought my feet even farther out. He is PL, so I guess it is a pretty standard PL-style squat. Before I was using a high bar, medium wide stance approach- maybe what you could call a very deep BB-style squat- and that was ok, but I was having trouble staying tight with increased loads. He also really worked with me on the mobility drills and hip-openers to warm up my squats more appropriately. Intuitive training is awesome, I prefer it. I realized that I’m not the kind of person that can have training set in stone and follow it. I thought it made me un-BB like, because in the BB forum, a guy will post what they do for the next 6 weeks. For me, it’s like “Uhm, I have a log, you can review my sessions?”

Im a free bird when it comes to training…I can loosely follow a ‘program,’ but always tinker with it somehow anyway. As long as I keep track of what I am doing and can see that I’m making progress somewhere, then I call it good.

Gosh, I have no idea how I would behave in a gym where I had to interact with people. I love my solitude. I admire people (like you) who can train intuitively. I’m pretty confident my training instincts suck. The less I think, the better I’m going to do.

I was actually wearing this shirt earlier and I took it off and put on a sport bra top for the gym. My though was, “Nah, the Sunday night crowd doesn’t deserve this shirt.” WRONG! Shoulda worn it tonight. Three people wove in front of me while I was doing OH carries. Everyone was in mosey along mode! WTF?!!! Numerous other acts of stupidity were witnessed. Not going to spell it all out because it is too fucking pathetic. Needless to say, I was in no mood. Thank God nobody tried to talk to me.

Chest/shoulders

Warmup: shoulder mobility stuff w/resistance tubing, bradford presses w/bar, incline pushups on the bench

BP: 1x5x65, 1x5x85, 1x5x95, 1x5x100, 2x3x105 (Not feeling my bench AT ALL tonight. It is my worst lift and I really don’t even like to bench. Trying to turn my attitude around but tonight was not the night. Gonna go work with the coach on this pretty soon. I need it.)

DB incline presses: got set up and then said, “Fuck it.” Just not in a benchin’ mood.

Since I am an admitted pushup whore and like doing them in variations and circuits/giant sets, I set up a little circuit in the group fitness room. Someone had left a step with 7 risers in there. Perfect.

Giant set x 5- decline med ball pushup/ db one-arm mp w/30, hershey kiss pushup/ resistance tubing pullapart:

 10/8 each side/10/12;   10/6 each side/10/12;   10/6 each side/8/12;   10/6 each side/10/12;   10/6 each side/9/12

Felt sufficiently hot, sweaty, breathless, and generally accomplished after that. Moved on to some more shoulder stuff.

Upright rows: 3x8x70

DB carries- waiters’ walk: 2 x ~250 ft x 45 lb each side, cross-carry 1 x ~250 ft x 40’s each side

Wide-grip pullups: 5, 4, 5, 5 (Finally made the effort to do them on the pullup handles at the cable station. Nice, much more comfortable.)

Lastly, more pushups: 12, 10, 12, 16 (Had to make it an even 50. Kinda OCD about that stuff sometimes. LOL.)

I was spent, took some post-training stuff and headed to the grocery. Then there was a mini-fiasco concerning some organic blueberries. All worked out well though. Today was a weird friggin’ day. Keeps life interesting.

Think I’m sabotaging my bench by hitting my triceps so hard the day before. I’m close to starting a new program: GVT. After I run that I will be sure to plan at least one day between tri’s and bench. Or maybe I’ll switch up my splits. Things to ponder…

Nice workout and I also love the T! I go to the gym so early in the morning, that I practically have the whole place to myself. I can’t tolerate dealing with a lot of people in the gym - it really puts me in a bad mood.

Blueberry fiasco? I agree, intriguing. It makes me think of this one time at the grocery store a lady grabbed one lemon and started a lemon avalanche. I ran over and tried to help stop the lemons from going everywhere. Major disaster averted, but there were a few lemons to pick up.
