Feedback on T-Nation Programs

Great thread, very usefull keep 'em coming, BUMP!!!

i am in week 5 of pendulum bodybuilding.
this program is great. i have seen consistent improvement in my lifts over the past few weeks and i have never looked forward to getting in the gym so much. must be due to changing workouts every week. i am going to follow it for another 5 weeks and then take a week off. the arm training in weeks 1 and 5 will leave you very, very sore.

anyone else tried this program? i would love to hear what you think of it.

I really liked Poliquins 1-6 rep trining program.
Really cool to increase your lifts through potentiation of the nervous system.
But I would reccomend doing a less neurologically demanding program afterwards…

I got decent gains (2kg bw) and increased my lifts some…

last year i did 12 weeks to super strength for the upper body by Ian King - this is when i started getting serious about lifting and i put on a lot of strength in all my upper body lifts by the time i hit week 12.

currently, i just finished Canadian Cannons by Christian Thibadeau and am about to embark on Canadian Cannons part II from a program that he sent me (great coach!). This really helped me strengthen my biceps, and though it was only 4 weeks, they do look bigger.

I would like to add my recomendation for ABBH. It was the first program I tried after I found this site. My biggest gains during this program were my back and my legs but my whole body was looking better. This is probably due to the fact that before this program I was doing 3 sets of 10 and not really hitting my back or my legs so it was a big change. I also started cleaning up my nutrition. But the best part about it was it kept my workouts exciting which kept me motivated. Before t-mag my workouts were hardly consistant. But now I can’t wait to hit the weights.

can anyone say Westside?
Sure its not a ā€œT-magā€ program but Tmag sure has helped in increasing the awareness of such a kickass program. i dont think its only for powerlifters either. bodybuilder can use it to. if you are stronger you can lifter more.
more load = faster growth.
any way yeah OVT is pretty kick ass. in saying that i now do one of 2 modified versions ofthe program.

I gotta say Frequent and Furious by CS Sloan. Just did it best for me.

I’m currently doing a Ian King’s 3 day split as described in Get Buffed I with Deadlift in day 1, Squat in day 3,horizontal/vertical pushing/pulling etc.
In about 3 months I put on about 10 lbs body mass. I find this program simple, well balanced and effective.

Currently utilizing OVT. Basically because it’s a program that I like and it fits in with the workout style that provides me with the best results in both strength and muscle building.

In January my workout partner and I worked Quattro Dynamo. We did it to kick start the New Year, after a rather slack holiday season. It was a great program, but you must follow the plan with proper nutrition and the required sleep. It was very tiring, and the programmed week off at the end is necessary.

King’s Superstrength and Limping series: Fantastic…lots of size and strength gains. Most importantly built my ā€œI canā€ attitude.

Diamonds in the Rough: Built a 1/2 inch on my calves even when I was just at my maintenance calories. I wish I ate more back then.

Ripped Rugged and Dense: Great 5x5 workouts…though somewhat odd combination of exercises. In general I’ve done well with 5x5s though I don’t use them all the time.

EDT: Phase 1 was terrific! Had great workouts, and great gains. Phase 2 was just way too taxing on my nervous system. My body was shot! Not only was I sore for longer than I’d like (4 days on avg per body part)…I was waking up in the night because of the deadening of my arms and the heat from my muscles. I had to cut it short…Phase 2 was just not for me!

Big Back Stack: Great Program! I use most of the concepts when designing my own routines in between starting T-mag programs.

I’m sure there’s more I just don’t remember.

very fond of the in and out of the gym…frequent training routines.

i liked ovt, rr and d, bbb, and pendulum bodybuilding. im surprised no one has mentiond training with maximal weights by Poliquin. this dates back to issue #1 and is definitely one of my favorites.

Yeah, Bump for the 1-6 program, 5 percent and training with Max weights from Poliquin. Also the Westside methods.

Following Chad Waterbury’s principles has been great for me. I just finished the 5 days off after Quattro Dynamo and am still 6 lbs. heavier. I did 3 weeks of ABBH right before QD. I think if I would have had my diet dialed in better I would have gained more. In these 6 weeks I went from 210 lbs. to 216 lbs., and from 14% BF to 11%. I was really only eating maintenance calories during ABBH because I wanted to see if I could drop some fat. I took MAG-10 2x/day the last 2 weeks of QD. Thinking of going to a 5x5 training regime for a few weeks now?

First: Bump… (I love this kind of threads…)

Second: Anyone have any thought of John Berardis - The creation continues, program? Tried it? Did it work well or not?
Apreciate any thoughts…

I don’t really have a favorite program but have to say that all the advises and parameters Chad Waterbury give in his articles helped me a lot, especially training a muscle group more often (actually I train 3x a week due to limited schedule but working up to 5x a week is great!) and not training to failure using big compound ā€œman makerā€ exercises has helped me a big deal with my strength and body composition.

I currently train with a Westside based program because I am training to compete in powerlifting. But I have to say that as far as T-Mag programs I have tried, OVT kicks ass! I put on crazy arm size during OVT. I actually had to cut the leg portion short because my legs were growing too much. And I did OVT with shitty nutrition. I can only imagine how it would work with nutrition dialed in and 2xday mag10 cycle. CT is a mad scientist! I also include many CW techniques in my current powerlifting training. Anything CW or CT says you can pretty much take to the bank.

As a side note, I think Ian King is very smart and has some good ideas. I gained size on his superstrength programs but the arm size went away as soon as I was done devoting 2 days a week to them. Now that I am powerlifting, my arms are bigger then ever (knocking on the door of 19") and I don’t specifically work them except for some tricep extensions and hammer curls every now and again. Just my personal experience as I’m sure others have great experience with King programs.

No, no no! Ct’s pendulum bodybuilding is boss. Man, day 1 of that program: Squats, deads, isometric holds…it’s enough to make a man puke. This program, along with some PH’s caused me to gain about 12 pounds. Also, Alessi’s variable cluster training. Got some good leg growth with that.

Try both and grow.

Did Fat to Fire again as my first choice Fat loss. Chatted with Davies about some simple yet effective nutrition principles. Implemented them and am happy with thge results.

Warning: over the course of these 3 weeks I have never had so many people ask me why I was jumping up in the air with an 8 pd medicin ball with sweat pouring into my eyes and then breathing like a dog on a hot day. Man…squats followed by med. ball wood choppers= severe pain!

Switched to Ripped, Rugged and Dense to test the 5x5 fat loss method. I will let you know how it goes as far as my 2 cents are concerned.

Ciao

Getting good results with EDT right now, and most importantly, I’m having fun.
