Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia Official!

I am assuming that you dont mean that Fedor can watch crocop get destroyed…

I’m very interested in whether this will take place in a ring or a cage. One would normally think that the advantage, if it’s in a cage, would go to Tim because he has lots of experience in a cage whereas Fedor has none, and especially seeing how some of the ex-Pride guys have had a tough time adjusting to the cage.

BUT, I think Fedor is different, and I think the cage might actually work to his advantage. The cage tends to favor grapplers and hinder strikers, and against Fedor, Tim is going to try to keep this a pure striking game.

Can you imagine the visual of Fedor on top of Tim, with Tim pressed up against the cage and Fedor GnP’ing away at full force? Epic.

We should all just wait until this fight gets closer. I expect that there will be a very good audience if HDNet can build a good undercard. I am torn on the outcome. I usually would want an American to win, but I am not a fan of Sylvia. On the other hand, I am so exhausted hearing about Fedor’s dominance over the last few years that it would be a great brick in the glass house of Fedor-lovers everywhere. Just like the guys from pride in the UFC have been a mixed bag–some awesome, some awful–so too do I think that this fight presents a real interesting opportunity to shut all us commentators up.

Sylvia is garbage. He has no punching technique and no knockout power. Fedor will pummel him.

When’s the Couture/Fedor fight?

Please believe me that I cannot watch Syliva fights without groaning and screaming about how dull he is. Despite this, he is a terrific boxer with great reach, good power and very good form. [/quote]

He punches completely flat-footed with his rear foot at almost a perpendicular angle to his front foot, so that he essentially can’t throw a cross with any power. He has the ugliest boxing form I’ve seen.

I think that is just plain wrong. Tim, although not liked by everyone, has been one of the top heavyweights in the last few years. It is disrespectful.

I don’t see the big deal. The guy’s just not with the organization anymore. Go to your favorite baseball or football team’s website – they’re not going to still have the profiles on there of players who left or got traded to another team.

As a matter of fact, the UFC might even get in legal trouble if they kept Tim on their website, since he’s signed with another organization now.

What I mean is this: Tim Sylvia can pull off a victory against Fedor. Hell, he may even crush him like Cro Cop got crushed. You never know.

They still have Randy up there though. WTF is up with that?

Precisely because the UFC is currently in a legal battle with Randy in which they are claiming that he is still the reigning heavyweight champion (with Nog being merely the “interim champion”), which thereby gives them the right to say they still have contractual control over him.

Randy’s contract states that he’s got 2 more fights left on it, but it also seems to state that it ends in October of 2008. Randy is arguing that he has resigned from the UFC organization and is able to fight for another organization if he just waits until October 2008. The UFC, on the other hand, is arguing that the October 2008 date is not really an “expiration date” of the contract, but that Randy still “owes them” 2 more fights, even if he waits until 2038.

So it’s in the UFC’s legal interest to claim he’s still a member of the organization and is still their reigning heavyweight champion because they can thus claim that they’ve been offering him fights (which they have – they offered him Nogueira) and that he’s been turning them down, thereby not fulfilling what they see as his contractual obligation to them.

In the end, Randy is probably right, and he’s probably free to do WTF he wants in October 2008. But the UFC is happy to tie him up in court for as loooong as humanly possible and cost him as much money in legal fees along the way as they possibly can.

Ahhh…gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

Arlovski is still there too, isn’t he gone as well?

Arlovski has finished his contract with the UFC but has not yet re-signed nor signed with anyone else. He is negotiating a new contract with Dana right now if both sides are to be trusted.

Here are the official details listing the whole fight card:

Shit, Aleksander is fighting too?! Damn…

While it probably wouldn’t be as big a draw state side, I’d much rather see Barnett fight Fedor, he is going to kill Rizzo.

I’m not holding my breath on that one due to his criminal history. He has a “not signed” asterisk next to his name too.

interesting comments so far. i for one am happy, that the maniac, (for whom i have no love afair for) is finally being paid well for his services. in fact, if you add up all his ufc purses, he’s going to get more for this one fight! i cannot say the same for fedor, since he fought pride and was paid accordingly.

i see all the old pride guys finish their shit contracts with the ufc and jump to dream (the new pride)or the other various organizations out there. better pay, better fans, i.e. no booing! its better for the sport, and all ufc and dana (fucking) white will have is tuf fighters. and who wants to pay pay per view prices for tuf fighters?

I have my doubts as well. But you never know…
