Hastalles: You have earned my respect man. That is pretty awesome.
For your squats, you need to figure out how to keep your toes down–you are giving up a ton of poundage with the happy feet dance…dig your feet into the ground and ‘spread the floor’ with your feet, pushing out against your heels and keeping tension the whole way…this will work its way up your entire posterior chain and help you move more weight
Pullups were a little too kippish for my taste, but I still probably couldnt do it so I cant criticize there.
You would have been able to do the farmers a lot easier with proper farmers handles…the barbells move way too much to keep balanced…not saying its impossible, but pretty fucking hard

LOL it’s cool. I know the guy. I was just busting some chops.
LOL okay, sometimes tone isn’t conveyed very well across the interwebz.

That wasn’t trolling, that was telling it straight. Nobody has ever squatted 500 the first time and memories of 18 year olds do get inflated.
Btw, I do believe it’s possible a total animal could deadlift 600 the first time.
this isn’t some dumb frat boy boasting but one of the greatest PLer’s in history.
have you ever been around any guys with good genetics? i have been around many and witnessed some amazing stuff. i am talking naturally extremely inteligent and/or athletic guys.

Whelp, since you asked, I’ve known two 1000 pound squatters. One of them was the world record holder less than ten years ago. I saw him squatting every wednesday night for a period of about three years. I’ve even squatted with him.
I can also tell you, when he came back from a layoff, he would work up to about 5 plates for probably about a triple.* Think about that. The worlds best squatter, and probably the best technical squatter ever, with years of training under his belt takes a month off and only squats a little more than Andy Bolton claims for his first time?
*Don’t anyone try to hold me to those exact numbers. It was a long time ago and I wasn’t exactly keeping notes. Even if he went up to 6 plates (I don’t think he did) my argument stands.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I hardly deserve it though.
Shut up, sparbrah.

Regardless, props on the video
Thanks very much for the squat tips. That’ss very helpful.
I’ve never filmed myself doing pullups before, so I’m pretty happy I caught the kipping before I developed full blown Crossfit AIDS.

STAY BACK!!!

I don’t think these comments are arrogant enough to warrant a call out thread (if at all).

It’s dismissing the opinion of someone with decades of training and competing experience; along with professional experience coaching hundreds of athletes.
The guy making this comment is a rank beginner with no knowledge to speak of (based on comments like my jeans no longer fit due to BW pistol squats).
IMO that is extremely arrogant.
You find this ‘extremely arrogant’? What if they had the audacity to call Dan a “pussy dumbfuck”? Would you faint?
Come on.
Yes I do, and it is.
Why are you so mad about a light hearted call out thread in the GAL forum?
It’s not like we are going to hunt them down and club them to death.
Just the opposite, I’m wondering why you all are so mad over such an inconsequential thing.
Who in the hell is mad here? If you can’t discern “anger” from “light hearted ribbing” you might want to consider the possibility that you are not socially well-adjusted.
Good on you for posting a vid. Don’t feel bad about missing the walk. You really need farmers handles. Even they can be hard to control under load but the bars you were using…?!

Thanks. Yeah, training outside is pretty great.

you generally squirm around alot on all of your movements. Benching…keep those feet planted and still…squatting, stay planted and strong…pullups stay stiff and contract with the back/core, not them legs…also so fucking weird how u throw the bench weight off of you after missing the last rep.

Nate did you see the bench? The kid is busting his ass on equipment made out of farm equipment, I really doubt he has a stable bench to work off of.
Just thought of a fun challenge: Do all 5 challenges in <10 minutes. Or just doing it for time, if 10 minutes is out of reach. Anyone up for this? I’m trying to figure out a way to set this up and try it, the farmers walks are the hardest part for me because the dumbbells at my gym only go to 125.
hastalles wrote:
Hit them all fairly easily except the farmers walk and bench.
Damn, farmer’s is hard! I picked them up fine and my grip felt like it was holding well, but the damn things tilted immediately the moment I moved. Gives me even more respect for strongmen.
I’m not sure what happened on the lockout of the first two bench press reps.
And I wasn’t aware my legs flop around like that on pullups.
Sorry about the shirtlessness, it was pretty freakin hot.
If anyone feels like it I’d certainly appreciate any criticism or advice!
You probally learned a lot from just oberving yourself on video. I think it is great that you have far less quality equipment than most everyone on this site, and you still had the balls to give it your best shot (on video). It was better than I can do. Congratulations, so far, you are the only one on this site to not hide behind the keyboard after they brag that they can do it. Like my dad always said “Don’t tell me what you can do, show me!” Overall, good job!

Good job kid keep it up.
yes i did see it. I was commenting on his feet…should be stationary. And just because its made out of farm equipment doesnt mean he cant tighten a bench enough so it doesnt ‘wiggle’ ive made plenty of my own implements. Also why bench on something thats not meant for benching then? Seems kinda dangerous if ya ask me, and he asked for crituque. So i gave it to him. Any good lifter will tell you feet should be still and planted on pretty much any lift i can think of.
Qudos for posting the vid. Maybe it also made you realise how difficult the game changers would be for someone who doesn’t train? Unless you think that you are massively weak genetically.
Thanks for the advice and kudos everyone. Much appreciated.
Oly-ali, on the contrary I think I’m lucky enough to have fairly good genetics.
I certainly have to admit I was wrong. Even someone with good genetics would be pretty hard-pressed to hit all five of these with no prior training. But I still think it wouldn’t take them long at all to get there. To use myself as an example, just a few weeks after I started training I don’t doubt I could have hit all of these except the bench and possibly the farmer’s walk. (Although at that point I’d been doing pushups and pullups and such pretty intensely for 5 or 6 years. Plus I only weighed 115 lb. So maybe I’m not such a good example.)
This thread has made me realize one thing though. I’ve made embarrassingly little progress these last two years.
Flip - that would be pretty hard, sounds like fun. I did them all within an hour or so and I was pretty tired after. The farmer’s walk especially right after the DL would be pretty brutal.
