Favorite Healthy Snacks

Beef Jerky:

Just watch out for the sugar as some brands really load up for that sweet flavor.

That is if you’re being mindful of sugars…

Some easy to pack snacks… almonds, pistachios, 85g pop-top cans of flavored tuna or a little less convenient some spicy fried chicken without skin or breading.

my favorite snacks are cheese and slices of cold cuts (no preservatives) or hard boiled eggs. sometimes some nuts or coconut macaroons (a bit more carbs, but sometimes ok)

if i’m doing peanut butter, i’ll do peanut butter on celery. sometimes a really tasty french onion dip and veggie sticks is good too.

dried shrimp are good, but not very filling. i’ve had them smoked before and that’s pretty tasty. plus you get calcium and other good stuff too.

merengues for those chef types would be a tasty and fairly easy to make snack. i haven’t tried making them with splenda only, but you probably could easily do it. and then some flavoring. high protein snack! (they’re only egg whites basically)

How much splenda is in a packet? I just buy the large bags and scoop it out. If you’re talking packets the size of Equal, and you guys are saying three packets or so is a lot, then watch out. I’d be eating like six to ten a day.

GREAT IDEA FOR A POST!

Here’s some others:

Spoonful of freshly made Almond (or peanut) butter from the health food store (the kind where the nuts are loaded in the grinding machine, and you grind them up yourself)

Nonfat cottage cheese- 1/2 cup, topped with 2 tsp balsamic vinegar (sounds gross but tastes extremely good)

Banana slices topped with almond butter and sprinkled with wheat germ

Fresh slice of avocado

Hard boiled egg whites

Raw tuna, sliced thin

Cold leftover pieces of grilled steak, chicken, pork tenderloin, lean ground beef meatballs or fish

Precooked frozen shrimp, defrosted, with cocktail sauce

Cold leftover grilled lobster tail, my favorite, mmmmmm…

Chocolate whey powder blended with ice water, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg

Nonfat, sugar free yogurt (any flavor) with scoop vanilla protein powder mixed in

Here’s one I forgot about. A buddy of mine came up with it. He calls it the “Hawaiian Delight”.

1 C. lowfat cottage cheese
1/2 C. chunk pineapple(fresh or in juice)
1 scoop Met-Rx Vanilla Butter Creme protein powder

Mix together and let it chill in the refrigerator. I never liked fruit and cottage cheese together until I tried this. It’s awesome! I’ve only tried one other protein powder besides Met-Rx and it turned out watery.

5g fat/33g carbs/41g protein/330 Kcal

Here’s one I picked up from my buddy. A sweet potato with cottage chess on top. Just pop one in the microwave for 10mins or so, take it out, slice in half and put as much cottage cheese on it as you would like. The hot potato and cold cottage cheese combo tastes great and is real quick and easy, almost makes me think I actually cooked something.
