All the above are good to great.

Invader Zim is my fav. The most mean spirited cartoon ever devised for children.

And having a good base knowledge of Jem and the Holograms has served me well more than a couple of times with ladies at the bar Friday nights. Now, it won’t impress your average girls. But it’s a great in with punk chicks.

Brian Smith:

Thanks for that link. I didn’t even know about that. I love Home Movies though, that is another great cartoon.

South Park and The Simpsons are my favorites. Beavis and Butt-Head was funny. Scooby Doo was pretty good for a regular cartoon.

heh, lemme see here, I mostly watch japanese anime…sooo my fav ones are:

Saiyuki
Cowboy Bebop
Hellsing
Berserk

if you have even heard of those, props to you.

VOLTRON

G.I. JOE

I CAN’T THINK OF THE NAME RIGHT NOW BUT THE ONE WITH THE SUPERHEROS AND THE HALL OF JUSTICE…GREEN LANTERN ROCKS!

BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD

THE HONEYMOONERS WITH THE MICE…

TOM AND JERRY…

THUNDERCATS…

Everybody knows the greatest cartoon of all time is The Tick. The Idea Men, Chairface Chippendale, the chick who tried to revive the Ottoman Empire (the furniture piece, not the historical one), the evil chef with his sidekick Buttery Pat, The Civic-Minded Five (“Let’s make a difference!”), Captain Muselage, Carpeted-Man (who dragged his feet to build up a giant charge to statically shock his enemies), El Seed; these are some of the greatest characters to ever grace TV! Spoon!!

When I was younger it was Transformers and Gargoyles, now The Simpsons, and sometimes adult swims Family Guy, and when they had it Blue Gender.

Dutchmo: you put way too much thought into that He-Man post. But yeah, he was definately gettin’ a piece.

Adult swim is by far the funniest collection of cartoons right now. Some cartoons that I grew up on which havn’t been mentioned…

Johnny Quest
Transformers
X-Men

And there used to be a She-Ra too, to go along with He-Man. I don’t think anyone mentioned that one.

And what the fuck is up with all that new cartoon porn floating around online? I looked up “cartoons” on google and got a bunch of this crap popping up.

To hijack the thread… you can only talk about cartoons for so long… what is everyone favorite video game growing up? I’m not talking about x-box, i’m talking sega geneses or snes and before. I’d have to vote for excite bike (nes).

NewDamage,
I’m still hopeful Home Movies will be back. And yes, I do think Family Guy is great.

I remember when I was 4-5 and I loved Transformers. I was a bit spoiled and I had literally all the toys too.

I don’t watch a lot of cartoons these days but one of the new ones I like is Samurai Jack. Less talk, more action.

Good Hijack Paul, one of the best games ever was Zelda for original gameboy… oooooh the green and black colours… so two dimensional.

And She-ra was not as good as He-Man… mainly because Hordak was such a lesser villain that Skeletor.

But holy crap alot of people like cartoons.

Although nobody else has mentioned Astro-boy… is he an unknown or just unliked… this question plaques my heart.

Finally a subject of some importance.

Cartoons were really brought back with Disney bringing out the Little Mermaid, but Duck Tales was the beginning of the big change in TV animation.

Scrooge McDuck’s voice was and is performed by Alan Young. Also known as Wilbur from Mr. Ed. He also co-wrote A Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

Tiny Toon Adventures was one of my favorites. With a whole bunch of animated shorts, with hidden messages, and double meanings. Plus a whole lot of skilled voice over artists.

Raw Toonage was my favorite though. Especially the super hero “Badly Animated Man”.

Now if you want to know who the cartoon voice over genius of our time is, that would be Frank Welker. He did Freddy from Scooby Doo. After Don Messick died, he took over the voice of Scooby Doo also. What I thought was funny was that in the Scooby Doo movie, he did the sound of some of the monsters.

He is responsible for a phenomenal number of uncredited voice sounds in a lot of movies, as well as a lot of credited. For example he did the voice of Spike, and various other gremlins in the Gremlins movie. (Howie Mandel did Gizmo.) He also did Spock screaming in Star Trek III.

He also was responsible for Abu in Aladdin.

Oh yeah. Let’s not forget South Park.

I can’t believe I forgot about The Tick, greatest superhero cartoon ever.

Now for video games…I loved Tyson’s Punch-Out, Maniac Mansion, Zelda, and the Dragon Warrior series.

Thinking back to the 8-bit Nintendo, I think they made a game out of anything. Check out this for old nintendo fun:

South Park & the Simpsons.

You can’t go wrong with Homer and Cartman.

peanuts!

shortdave…i remember astro-boy,i think it must have been the first jap anime to come to north america.

i still think the canadian productions like hercules, rocket robin hood and roger ramjet were the best toons ever.

What about Ghostbusters, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. All of the cartoons mentioned are great too.

wow…I guess you can really tell we are all about the same age around here! early to mid-20’s - kids of the eighties. awesome

Hey Malonetd, did you (or anybody else) ever take nintendo stuff, like the light gun, apart and make it into other stuff? you could turn it into all sorts of cool things, like if you took the recptor out and attached it to a helmet, you could shoot like that, or mount it onto a glove.
My favourite was the rifle I made, it had a magnifying lense over the end, so it was pretty much immposible to miss.

Now Mage, when you are talking about great voice-overs, what time frame are you talking about?? because Mel Blanc of looney toon lore was a veritable storehouse of voices. He was just great. But that is a long time ago, so not all that pertinent in light of the fact that most of the toons we are talking about are 70’s and newer.

Has anybody seen The Tick live action series? With Patrick Warburton (puddy from seinfeld) HILARIOUS!!!
And the cartoon was a masterpiece as well, and after the Tick one could always watch DUCKMAN!!!
