As some of you may know I spent my childhood in Portugal, even though I was born right here in the US, before I moved back here. However I noticed something:
Even in Portugal, the classic cartoons that I watched every day, or weekend without fail, are exactly the same ones everybody else watched, regardless of wether they lived in the US, UK, Australia, etc.
Here's a list of the Classics, that I just HAD to watch after school in second grade, or on the weekends. Feel free to add yours:
Transformers (Optimus Prime kicked ass)
Thunder Cats (thunder...thunder...thunder...OOOOHHHHH!!!) LOL
He-man
And finally that cartoon with 5 tigers that combined to form a badass robot - and it's NOT the Power Rangers.
Anything else?
The last cartoon you are referring to is called Voltron.
I was addicted to He-Man, GI Joe, Thundercats, Transformers and Roadrunner cartoons.
As I mentioned on the other thread, if you can find it I highly recomend watching an episode of he-man now. You will be thoroughly amused. Also, skeletor references get the ladies.
That list is pretty close to my childhood watching habits, although I was into ninja turtals towards the end of that period.
And MacGeyver. Granted it wasn’t a cartoon, but that show defined my childhood. That was seriously my favorite show of any period of my life, not to mention a major influence.
Thundar the Barbarian. Good times.
Ever seen BattleTech? (Yep…came out far later than the 80s).
Just gotta love the Clans =0)
Cities of gold!!!
Voltron
Silver hawks
These stick in my mind the most.
there was a great one called pole position that had cars whose wheels turned inwards and they became hovercraft flying things, v cool. i think most people who are my age here in england will get nostalgic over 8 days aroung the world, dogtanian and the three musketters and ulysees (ulysee,e,e,s flying through the galaxie,e,e s, if you watched the show that will make sense!)
one mre thing does anyone ever rememeber the end of the series or did i just watch the same episodes over and over again as a kid?
On shows, who can forget the 'Knight Rider' lol. I used to love that show. Heck I used to FORCE my dad and any of my cousins who showed up during the show to sit down and watch, because it was 'so cool'.
Guys, check out yesterdayland.com
You’ll LOVE it
Clutch Cargo.
I’d have to agree with everyone else. When I was a kid…my cartoon list included:
Transformers
GI Joe
Scooby Doo (surprised no one mentioned this one)
He-Man
Dungeons and Dragons (remember when the kids went through that amusement part ride and they came out in another world??)…I LOVED that cartoon
Gummi Bears (call me a dork, but I really liked this one)
Voltron
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Pee Wee’s Playhouse
How about Alice in Wonderland? I LOVED that cartoon when I was 6 yrs old. It was awesome.
I never cared much for scooby doo because it only started airing in Portugal when I got a little older, when they also introduced the transformers - and there's no way you could compete with Optimus Primus lol.
Hey all,
I lived on early morning, saturday morning cartoons and after school cartoons. Before you do the math and think, " What kind of life did he lead," let quantify some of this, I naturally woke between 0530 and 0600 until middle school, I only watch the after school cartoons until mom or dad got home (latchkey kid) and on saturday I wasn’t allowed to call anybody until 1000 (all our parents rules) or go out until mom or dad were up ( strangely about 1000) until middle school.
Early morning: Rocket Robinhood, Hercules( both 1960’s or 70’s and one was at 0530 the other at 0600) then Spiderman (70’s).
Saturday, Spiderman (70’s), Superfreinds, Looney toons, Tom and Jerry, GI Joe, Transformers, Spiderman and his amazing friends (had incredible hulk too), TMNT, scooby Doo.
And before school and after school Japanimation (and similar cartoons)whenever it was on, G-Force, Space Keteers, Guy King, Dangard Ace, Grandizer, Robot Tech, Star Blazers, Voltron, Thunder Cats, Silverhawks.
Then In High school and College, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Earth Worm Jim, The Tick, Spider-man (fox), feakazoid where my mainstay. These were to maintain my own sanity.
Peace,
T-Ren
I was all about He Man and She-Ra, Thundercats was cool too.
Then as I grew older my brother and I would watch Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain as much as possible.
Emckee has a point… When you watch He Man nowadays, he was the original ambiguously gay superhero. The VH1 “I Love the 80’s” series pointed that out.
I was a big fan of Knight Rider and the A-Team too…
Just my two cents…
B.
THE FUNNIEST cartoon I used to watch - way funnier then the Simpsons at the time (in my opinion of course), was....what was it called? The one with a BIG FAT COW in red pants, and I think it was a bunny (or was it a dog?) It came out after Ren and Stipmy, and it was way funnier. It made me laugh my ass everytime. If anyone knows the cartoon Im talking about and knows the name could you please post it? I LOVED that cartoon.
Duck Tales.
A woo-oo.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
GI Joe
GUMBY!!!
GI JOE’S
TRANSFORMERS
GHOST BUSTERS
THUNDER CATS
LOONEY TOONS
WOODY WOOD PECKER
TALE SPIN
GUMBY BEARS
GARGOYALS
i’m sure i’m missing many others but i can’t think of them right now.
hey do any of you remember a cartoon that dealed with cops. it was when i was like 7 or so. anyway it was realy cool. oh yeah how could i forget teenage mutant ninja turtles.
diesel: that show with the cow was called “Rocko’s Modern Life”. Oh and that was a wallaby not a bunny. btw…it comes on every once in awhile on nickelodeon (kid’s pick). And i agree~it was hilarious…wish they’d show it more often =(
Poohbaya!!! Duck tails!!! man, you just brought back a bunch of memories. Lets see, Thunder Cats was a must, and I think I still have a tape of the movie (with the lunatacs). GI Joe was also a staple of my early viewing years.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I collected all the figures and everything, also had a huge Splinter poster on my wall. And who can forget Batman: The animated series. I wanted to be Bane so badly
