Did I read that right? you are split snatching?
That sounds even more difficult than a squat snatch.

naw, its much much easier than squat snatching. It actually easier to go deeper in a split snatch than it is a split clean.
Ive always caught cleans/snatches in a slight split, so I’m just deepening it, but its a very natural movement.
maybe you should try it? Go on, you know you want to. Go on. Go on. go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on.
to all you people not in the UK, I havent had a breakdown, its a TV reference.
oh and if you think split snatching looks hard, imagine how hard a 400lb squat looks to me!
clean and jerk, split getting slightly deeper as the weight gets slightly heavier

3 smallish mountains walked up today, The Law, Ben Cleuch and Ben Ever. (sounds like I made those up, but they are real)
went on a sort of circular route and took just 4 hours, including time to stop and eat the packed lunch. Legs will be tired tomorrow no doubt.
Absolutely brilliant view from the top of Ben Cleuch, I could see Ben Nevis to the NW and East Lomond on the SW, and these two points are about 100 miles apart.

I used to work with a guy who was working his way through all the ‘Monroes’. He used to leave work (in Northamptonshire) on a Friday evening, drive all the way to Scotland through the night and fit in as many as he could on saturday and Sunday before driving home in time for work on Monday morning. Now that’s dedicated.
Makes a change to climb a mountain and have good visibility. Normally you can’t see your hand in front of your face!

that is truly dedicated, hopefully he did all 284 in the end. My wife does Munros, she caught the bug from her folks. we live just South of the most Southern Munro and within an hour of maybe 50 of the buggers, so we’ve got plenty to keep us going. I can either babysit at the weekend or we can all go up a hill. So up a hill it is.
I think the Mother in law has about a dozen to go to get the full set, but the ones way up north and on Skye/Mull are too far to drive in a day from the central belt and still get a climb in,so she has to do what your colleague did.
the real downside is the cost of the wifes boots/crampons/GPS/compass/maps/jacket/trousers/rucksack/gloves/hat etc etc etc
however its better than sitting watching TV all weekend or going to Tescos or whatever
a bit of light relief today…

quite good fun, and much more quad than two legged squatting, I’ll try and keep this going for a bit
nice one today, I tried to do more of a hip thrust in the snatch and clean (ooh err missus) and it worked a treat. Unfortunately it continued my pull more than usual and put me right out of position for the catch in a split. So I ended up power cleaning/snatching and catching in a 1/8 squat. So I quickly stopped doing that and went back to doing a pull in order to catch in a split.

Enjoying your workouts. Have watched and admired the OLY lifts from afar. There is a talent in power and timing.

thanks Hawk, yes the oly lifts are great fun to do and look good if done properly. I havent read your posts, but do you do them?
I think I would trade a bit of power and timing for a bit more strength if I had the chance
cheers

whats best about the numbers for me is that I’d spent all my time prior to the last few weeks doing olympic style lifts without actually doing the full lifts. So I’m really pleased that I can full-lift the same as I could doing power and hang versions. and no press-outs. They had always seemed easier to do.
Now I need to see if I can do better in the full lifts (albeit my split isnt full depth, so pedants may say I’m still power cleaning/snatching. but its much deeper than I used to, so I’m happy)
thanks to all of you olympic lifters in the forum who have unintentionally given me a bit of focus.

I’m not surprised you can already match your weights from the hang and the power versions with the full lifts because of the shorter distance the bar has to travel when you drop under.
Are you going to start doing any regular assistance work?
These lifts are very addictive aren’t they?
Mm, quite like squirrel dipped in some sort of marinade and roasted quickly over hot coals.
Did the occaisonal monroe but mainly with tools in winter …sun in scotland !!! must have been hallucinating !.
Actually more of an ex cragrat .last decent route was face route at gordale.
Err…53 and just getting into weights so no laughter now :
Deadlift 90kg
Squat 70kg
Bench 42.5
Lats around 65 kg
Press-ups --around 50 per session.
Cardio intervals about 2 1/2 miles in 2o minuyes.
Laughter may now subside !!

yup very addictive. As I appear to be in the opposite camp to you (weak) I’m not sure what assistance exercises would be of any assistance. I genuinely dont know how beneficial strength in the squat/dead/bench is. I just look at Carl’s squat and he’s not squatting much more than he cleans. So i dont know.
true about the shorter distance, but from the hang is so much less technical and I can concentrate on one part of the lift rather than many parts, which are required in a full lift. Again, I dont know.

roast marinated squirrel- you must be from the Southern States of the USA!
you wont get any laughter in this forum, we even mention things like Alan Partridge and the Office. Absolutely no laughter there as far as I’m concerned.
what are your goals in the gym?
cheers
Sun in Scotland, ah yes, I remember that day, it was in the 80’s I think.
