I’ve read a lot on the benefits of training with a fat bar opposed to a regular sized bar. Are there any grips out there that I can buy to simulate the fat bar? I tried a towel the other day and I don’t really like in instability of it, although I love the ache in the forearms today. Aside from the towel anyone got any ideas? tk
While you are picking up your wheelbarrow, go over to the plumbing section. Pick up some of that rubber tubing you use to wrap pipes. I like to then wrap the tubing real tight with some duct tape. Its not perfect but its simple, cheap and pretty damn effective.

Yes, cut up some soft sponges of different thicknesses.
I personally use a cheap A&P brand car wash sponge and
cut it up into a few pairs of lifting sponges…I use them
for seated rows, benchpresses, plus any exercise machine
with a thin handle…Besides the obvious uses, you’ll never
have to worry about sweaty palms when you’re using
these babies!
Leather straps.
I used to use an oversized piece of PVC pipe.
Check out our “Stuff We Like” columns in the previous issues section of T-mag and look for the review of EZ-Grips. The search engine should help you pinpoint the right column.
Try making your own inexpensive thick bar. Go to a scrap metal yard and get a 7 foot piece of 1 1/2" wall pipe(schedule 80). The od on this is approx. 1.97". Get a couple of short pieces of 2" pipe for stops and tap/drill to bar with 3/8" bolt set. If you want a thicker handle bar get a 4’ piece of 2" wall pipe and put it over the 1 1/2" pipe. Total cost for the bar shouldn’t be over $5 or so. I’ve had up to 500 lbs. on this with no problem.
