I went today and did all the lifts I had planned, but I can say that I didn’t really feel like doing any of them. Did not go super heavy on anything. Just kind of worn out.
it happens man. at least you did what 99% of the population wouldn’t have done in your situation, and you still showed up to the gym and got your shit done. props to you for that.
I agree.
If it happens every week, you’d have a problem with motivation, but I had one last month…upper body too (so easier than a squat or deadlift day) I did a few lackluster sets and then did the bike for 20 minutes then sat in the sauna.
You might need a week off to…
Never. I have been going to the gym for over 4 years and have hit a new max during all 1200 work outs. My curl is now 9000.
It happens, way to go anyway. When you make your body work on the days it doesn’t want to you know you have control over your own whims and emotions.
Agreed with The Greek and Nard.
I’ve had those days, too. What always makes me suck it up and feel better is after my warm-up and before lifting, I lie on my back, take a deep breath, and imagine someone I dislike calling me lazy.
…then I spring up from the mat and people at the gym stare…but at least I’m motivated!
Strange enough, when I go into the gym feeling lazy/tired is when I hit PR’s. I’m actually trying to convince myself to stay home, and when I finally finish warming up I feel my best.
When I feel like I might have a day like that ahead of me, I’ll load up on some caffiene to help push through it. Drink some strong coffee, or if you don’t like coffee, use a thermogenic or some ephedrine HCL.

Same here.
I know the feeling. This usually happens to me near the end of the training week, especially if the first few days had some PRs in them. I generally put my least important exercises (or the non-essential ones I am best at) towards the end of the week for this reason. I’d say 1-2 times a month I have that feeling on a Thursday or Friday.
I was feeling lazy today. As silly as it sounds, I went into breathing exercises, and meditation. I did that for about 15 minutes, and then felt absolutely amped. I wouldn’t force it if you’re not feeling it, try to focus on the source of the issue rather the product of it. When you disconnect from all the bs stresses and go deep inside self, it is amazing how quickly change in motivation and feeling will come about.
Well, when you have a job and a househould etc. I think it’s normal that once in a while you are tired. But even when I’m tired, I still go and make the best out of it. And once there it doesn’t seem to be that bad ![]()
Some pre-workout supp may help on those days.
I’ve been spending time on facebook lately…looking at the profile pics of the fat asses I went to school gets me more motivated to hit the gym than looking at fitness models used to…I can feel my body getting amped up not wanting to turn into those fat fucks…
