The only problem I have with this is that a “smaller number on the scale” is the goal of someone who knows nothing about body composition. It’s an irrational number. If your goal is a lower number on the scale, buy a scale with a dial and turn the dial back 20 lbs. Easy, goal met.

Now a goal of a certain BF% or even a set of bodypart measurements would be a more rational goal. After all, you could just lose bone density and have your scale wieght go down, or add fat and lose muscle and have your scale weight go down.

My wife views the scale the same way, she gets fixated on the number flashing up at her like it somehow effetcs who she is as a person, when in reality, all she has to do is look up and into the mirror and she can really see who she is. The scale could say the exact same thing and two different versions of the same person could be looking in the mirror.

Couldn’t have said it better myself and I my gf does the same thing. Me on the other hand have stayed a constant 187 on the scale the last month and a half but my body composition has visibly changed (haven’t gotten any measurements yet, but soon) to the point my gf was commenting on how much “weight” i’ve lost just last night. I thought it was funny when I pointed out I haven’t lost any weight at all just fat. She just rolled her eyes and said “whatever.”

Anyways, spot on Vege, but peas still suck[/quote]

Stop generalizing, I know you like sugar snap peas and the black eyed peas, you just don’t like canned green peas. Be specific.

Not really a fan of black eyed peas since they got fergie … and canned green peas are a product of the devil … that’s right, the devil!!! It’s in the bible. Look it up.

Shenanigans.

Fergie ain’t half bad.

I haven’t read all the replies, but do I need to remind you guys it’s not about looking thinner. For the next BJJ competition the weight calsses are 135 and below or above. I walk at about 165-170, which means if I don’t drop I get to go against the 200 to 300 lbs women. Skill cannot over come an 130lb weight difference. I’ve learned the hard way. So actual scale weight is my primary focus, well and BJJ skill.

It has nothing to do with Fergie, they just sold out with the addition of her … they were underground hip hop and had some really good songs then they went pop … and I hate their fucking songs … their only redeeming quality is will.i.am’s production on other people’s stuff (like Nas)

I read it all and agree with it all, and if it up to me, I’d just focus on measurements, but that’s just not how competition works. Body comp doesn’t matter, just the scale. I of course want the best body comp possible at 135, but it has to be 135. I didn’t pick the number, the lack of women in BJJ did. I blame the ladies who wont let me convince them to join.

I remember them pre-Fergie too, decent hip hop but nothing that blew my brains out. I can still listen to them and appreciate Will I Ams’ touches on stuff. I rank bands too by how much fun I have at their shows. They rank 3rd behind Garth Brooks and (surprise) No Doubt for hands down some of the most fun I’ve had a a show ever.

Ahh, further information does indeed shed some light on the situation. First things first, how far out are you from the comp? you have what 25lb to lose? you can get 10 easy from water, and depending on what your diet normally looks like if it’s carb and salt heavy, mabye 15-20. If you are a long way out from your competition, like a couple months, I would do a test drop right now,

Cut carbs and salt to ZERO, do lots of cardio, like nonstop, you don’t need to restrict calories too much, you aren’t looking to lose mass, you just want to push as much water out of your body as possible. Find your start number and find where you are after 2 days, then 3 days, then 4 days. Also I don’t think I should have to say this but keep water and all liquid intake to a minimum, you are trying to dehydrate yourself.

This is a short term cut and once you go a few days you will reacy a point where you are not losing much if any weight due to more water loss, that is your base level and that is your dehydrated weight. If it is 3 lbs over your fight weight, you need to lose 3lbs of scale weight. Once youhit your base dehydrated weight, start drinking water again and add salt and carbs back to your diet. START SLOW, add a them back slowly or you might balloon up. Water you can add back more rapidly.

If I had to guess you will most likley be able to cut 15 Lbs from water alone, so plan on losing 10 Lbs of MOSTLY FAT. This will be your best case scenario. You walk around at a leaner 150 and drop to 135 starting a couple days before weigh ins. Then you water back up to 150 for the day of the fight.

Can’t really deny a man who rates bands based on how much fun they have at their concert … it’s man who has is priorities straight that’s for sure

I just remember buying their first album with Fergie and listening to it once through and being like “I feel like my dick just turned into a vagina” … so, that’s pretty much why I don’t like their music.

I’m competing next after the summer, Sept. I’ll probably do a test water drop eventually just to see how much I can lose, but in the long term I’d like to walk at 135. I can drop water if I do small local competitions, but for bigger Gi competitions, you weigh in right before you step on the mat. So there is no rehydrate/ refuel time. They don’t want you cutting water weight. I don’t know if I’ll want to big ones, but I’d like to have that option.
