I read through EC’s Max. Strength book. I’ve done the warm up routine a few times and i cant do it within 10 - 15 mins like the book says. More like 20 - 25 mins.
Do any of you guys do his warm ups in their entirety(Foam rolling, ball drills, mobility drills)?
If so, how long does it take?
I was thinking of doing away with some of the stuff. Definatly want to keep the foam rolling though.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Yeah, I’ve noticed that it takes me about 20 mins. However, it really is a good warmup. Honestly, If I had to reduce my time at the gym, I would try dropping the foam rolling and tennis ball work from my warm up routine, and do them at home. The whole point of a warm up is to mobilize and activate your muscles, and that is done by the mobility work.
In the past i’ve done this mobility complex before i train, after a light 10 min. cardio warmup.
Grasso-Smith Complex

I was thinking of dropping the 10 min. cardio warmup i’ve been doing, adding the foam rolling, keeping the Grasso-Smith complex but add a few of EC’s mobility drills to it…
i feel some of EC’s drils are effective while others arent so much.
Ive got Magnificent Mobility - allegedly thats a 10min warmup - takes me 20mins & i cut it a few exercises short!
I just read the book and im going to try the drills soon but man I dont know about you but where I workout, there aint no way im brining in a foam roller lol. It just inst going to happen
Guys,
The warm-ups will definitely go faster as you get familiar with all the movements.
FYI, I’m not married to the idea of you always foam rolling immediately prior to lifting. As long as you get it in - be it before, after, or separate from training, it’s cool with me. Also, you’ll find that over time, you won’t need it on certain areas, so you can skip over those. Areas like lats, ITB/TFL, quads, etc. are ones that you’ll have to focus on for the long-haul simply because of the way we’re “stuck” in our daily lives.

I hear ya man. I’m already walking onto the gym floor with a bunch of bands and a timer around my neck; no need to add a 3’ foam roller.
I just do the rolling (if time allows it) for 5 min before I leave to train (i live close to my gym) and then for another 10+ min when I get home.

glad someone understands lol. As eric just said I doubt it matters when you do them so im not worrying. Theres also pros around my gym all the time. I dont need to see cutler or heath look at me with a foam roller. It wouldnt be to good haha

Thanks for the response Eric, For a second there I thought you were going to say im not maried. Im like ok? hahaha
my gym has a foam roller. it did cross my mind that i might not look like the most hardcore guy at the gym rolling around the floor. after hearing EC’s responce ill probably save the foam rolling for home.
thanks for all the responces.
I’m lucky, where i lift is 8 racquetball courts that arent used at 6am, so i just lock myslef in one of them for my warmup…
