Why not wait until you find out if the first one even works or not? It has the potential to be nothing other than a bunch of guys stroking each others egos.
Agreed. We are about to start clique wars minus the food fights.
What they said. Spun out of control, this T-Cell idea could really fuck up T-Nation. One is enough. I have a feeling it might cause enough problems as it is.
I would like to see a T-Cell for raw powerlifters.
I don’t mean a place where the raw guys can go and bash on equipped lifters, just a place where raw lifters can discuss topics about the sport.
It seems raw lifters are frequently scoffed upon around here, regardless of the reasoning for wanting to lift without equipment. As everyone here knows, there is quite a difference between unequipped and equipped lifting. Raw lifting does have its followers, but with the vast number of feds out there, there are not many places where level-headed raw lifters can collaborate. I think there are enough T-Nation members that a small community of raw lifters could be formed with the addition of a T-Cell.

Exactly. It isn’t like people are going to be kept out of that forum once they allow us to vote people in. I see a lot of confusion if there are 10 different T-Cell groups on the forum. There is no way to divide your attention between all of them and many of us CROSS OVER into other disciplines often.
I can’t discuss powerlifting if I want to on the spot? I used to powerlift.

I disagree. If the T-Cells are specific enough, I don’t see this as an issue. For instance, I am more interested in Strength Sports than Bodybuilding, yet I still crossover to the BB forum. However, if a T-Cell was formed to discuss strictly professional bodybuilding, I wouldn’t have any interest.
I think the challenge will be keeping the members of a particular T-Cell low, and keeping the forum subject specific. As long as the subjects stay specific, it shouldn’t detract from the Strength or Bodybuilding forums. Creating a powerlifting forum would be redundant. Creating a powerlifting forum for Master’s division athletes may be welcomed.
I would like to see what T-Cell alpha is all about. I would hate for the first T-Cell to be a failure because it wasn’t well defined.

Maybe it would be a better idea to start a raw powerlifting thread in strength sports and then try to keep it as gear bashing free as possible to see how it works out? As long as it doesnt turn into a gear bashers haven, I dont see why the geared guys would bother with it at all?
I think just one T-cell is good enough. The other forums haven’t had the same problems as the bodybuilding section. Besides even if you are not part of it, you can still read it, which allows for maximum knowledge and minimum BS.
And ProfX, it’s easy for you to say we only need one T-Cell, because you are in it.
This is just like HS. Now, all the women are going to be paying attention only to the the “In-crowd” in the T-Cell.
Therefore, I vote for a “Cool People Not in the T-Cell” T-Cell.

I had NOTHING to do with that and have stated several times all over this site that I think the majority should have been let in but then voted off by a select few if they present the attitudes that led to it in the first place.
I am also wondering why they are taking so long to allow us the ability to vote people into that one. It makes no sense to worry about MORE if the one we have isn’t even working yet.
The bodybuilding forum was being hit left and right by people bashing bodybuilding. No other forum on this site has had that problem…so why the need for more T-Cells?
People of similar minds and interests manage to find a place to communicate and support each other, T-Cell or not. It’s too bad that the strength athlete’s logs that I followed, both men and women, have now left this site and are posting elsewhere.
I just stick around to make wisecracks and give you bastards and bitches a hard time. Until I’m banned from here.

Never happen.
I was going to suggest a Luminous T-Cell where I could senselessly and cruelly vote people on and off in a random fashion. I’d like to turn that idea over to Yo Momma since she is endlessly more entertaining than I. Plus she’s got a band.

First, one thread devoted to a sport quickly becomes clustered and loses direction.
Second, plenty of threads discussing various aspects of raw lifting have been started before. Invariably, somebody comes on and posts a stupid comment that leads to the tiring gear/no gear debate. Sometimes that comment comes from a raw guy, sometimes it comes from an equipped guy, but it pretty much always happens.

What about a question submission? Anonymous or not, members who are not part of the T-cell can submit questions or topic ideas, and then those who are members of the T-Cell can choose to answer them or not. I understand how this could complicate things, but it might make T-Cell non-members feel less left out, if thats a problem at all.
+1
Let’s wait an see what happens once others enter the fray.
Who knows, maybe the quality control idea of T-Cell Alpha will rub off and other places will benefit without the need for cells.
Oh, and I’m +1 in voting for a “General Fitness” forum. These people are already all over the site.
It’s easy for us to say, “Throw the geeks out!” but there are bills to pay.
I don’t really complain about the geeks New Year’s Resolution people at a commercial gym. Why not? Those people are the reason my gym dues are $35/month.
It’s just basic economics. The more people buying stuff means greater sales volume. When sales volume increases, a company can reduce prices.
If you sell 2 cans at a $2 profit margin, but then get a demand for 10 cans, you can reduce the price per can by $1 and still reap a huge wind fall. More geeks = more cans of protein sold = lower prices for me.
Plus, more sales means more money for R&D, i.e., better products for the non-geeks.
We ALL benefit from the geeks and general fitness morons. Let them have their section of the forum.
Plus, I think, having several T-cells for PL, OL, Strongman is silly.
For example just look at the OL. On these forum there are about 5 guys who REALLY know the sport and post on a regular/semi-regular basis. The rest, including me, are fairly new at it. Now how dumb would it be to have a “Olympic Lifting T-Cell” with 5 people in it? Or maybe a lot of people in it, who know very little?
Besides… in Strength Sports forum I rarely see noob come in talk smack about PL, OLifter, or Strongman, aside from the occasional gear-vs-raw thingy. Also, thanks to the simple nature of strength sports (pick-up heaviest weight u can) there isn’t much room talk bullshit.
So, since the community is not that big, and there is little confusion about what being strong is, we don’t need no T-Cells.
