Endurance While I Want To Get Bigger

Ofc its funny to intimidate weaker people that can’t get back at you,but usually the ones that does this, is only brave when it comes to these people.
The funniest is that this only applies to them, when it comes, for example, to be macho or make fun of another man, bigger than them they are :hatched_chick:, this is from my personal experience.

A serious man treats people the same, even if they are weaker.

Who is this directed at?

Its directed to @tlgains to give him another side of the joke he likes to think of… aside of the joke i wanted to point out to him that there’s more on it

Hey man. I’m currently a serving officer in a tactical unit. Similar to SWAT, but a tier lower. We deal with protests, riots, active shooters during terrorist attacks, and “simple” hostage rescue.

To put into context, I’m Asian so we’re not tall and we have a smaller build. When I first got into the unit, I’m about 64kg and I’m at 167cm for my height. I was able to get Gold for the annual physical test and also A grade for my combat fitness test. My running has always been my weakest but it’s still considered “good” or slightly better than average. For the physical tests, my 2.4km run is at 10.01 mins after max push-ups and max sit-ups, my 3.2km run is 16 mins after max pull-ups and max sit-ups, and my 5km run in combat load is 27 mins. These were my scores during the same year that I got into the unit. I managed to max out the points for all the static stations (push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups station). This was back in early 2024.

After I cleared all my fitness tests in 2024, I wanted to bulk up and gain weight. So I went on a caloric surplus and I did powerbuilding. Anyways, I bulked to 72kg in 2025. I’m only at 167cm so I was pretty “jacked” for my height. During the fitness tests, my running was damn bad. My 2.4km run was 12.47. I haven’t attempt the 3.2km and 5km run. All I can say from my personal experience and from conversations with colleagues and from what I’m seeing, you will need to choose or strike a balance.

You cannot be damn massive and expect to have good cardio. Those muscles will require way more oxygen and blood. During conditioning training, I can really feel that my combat fitness is affected badly due to my heavy weight. I’m not sure if it’s bcos I’m not training enough to get my body used to doing cardio at this weight. But I made up my mind to lose weight and probably stick to 67-68kg range. I think it’s a good balance between being athletic yet having some size for the job.

Right now im hitting the gym 4x a week and run 3x a week. Hopefully my fitness levels will return back. I can feel it increasing back that’s for sure. I’m assuming it’s bcos I’m getting lighter. Right now I’m looking way leaner, way more vascular, my shirt is still tight, and my running feels better. I’m at 69-70kg now. For supplements, I’m taking creatine, NMN, L-carnitine, black seed oil, multi vits, and turmeric

Its usually pretty easy to return to a previous state of cardiovascular/pulmonary condition, because the adaptations already exist. They just need to get used to working hard again.

Building more and pushing adaptation beyond that is where it gets harder and takes longer.

Keep at it!

Ditch the L Carn, multi’s, … largely useless.

Beta Alanine could help. Creatine and definitely electrolytes.

Build work capacity. Kit up and perform the functions as closely as possible for some volume over what’s expected.

That mid-range heart rate is a great zone to stay in to build work capacity.

Loaded carries. Hill sprints. Ruck marches. And some specific strength training.

Most importantly… recover properly and manage fatigue
