Empty Calories? Lifting and Beer

What exactly is an “empty calorie?” I normally Drink Boston Lager because it has 2 grams of protein, 270mg of potassium, and 18 carbs per beer. A beer I tried last night had 220 calories only. Nothing else at all. Would the calories in that beer just be a complete waste? I’ve been trying to put on weight. As odd as it might seem, Boston Lager has made it a lot easier on me. I stretch a six pack out over the course of a few hours so I never get passed 2 beers worth of drunk and my intoxication level doesn’t start to hinder my recovery.

Maybe you should switch to a protein shake like 6 12oz ones aday probably help you alot more… just a suggestion.

“Empty calories” seem to make as much sense to me as “sugar-free” caramel. But given that, I’d drink better beer only because life is short. I’ll get my protein from the popcorn chicken and wings.

“Empty calories” means calories without vitamins and minerals. Fries and soda for instance.

2 grams of protein is nothing. I second the protein drink suggestion. At least don’t kid yourself.

drink booze to get drunk

eat protein to get swole

if it’s marketed as a ‘healthy’ option, don’t touch it

Well said.

Alcohol is considered to be empty calories because it doesn’t do your body composition any good but has 7 calories per gram. If you’re going to get drunk then drink a beer you enjoy drinking, don’t pretend that your beer with protein in it is going to be any better.

If your physique goals are important to you then you’ll want to not drink beer in excess very often.

+1. Not to mention the liver damage.

There are other safer mass gainers on the market. Try them.

I drink protein shakes and eat well and all that. Its not like I’m only drinking beer here. Was just curious
