Both my grandmas had hard lives. Lots of kids, abusive alcoholic husbands. They both just had different ways of dealing with it I think. I tend to lean in the direction of my mom’s mom. Enjoy what you can. My grandma lived almost 30 years after my grandpa died. She really came alive after that. Started to travel and such. I always thought that their personalities came out in their kitchens. One always had pies and cookies. The other had noodles. Just plain noodles. And if you stayed the night you got plain puffed rice cereal for breakfast. I always felt like that summed them up really well. Lol
If we can bring back my mom, she could cater anything! I have no idea where she learned to cook. ![]()

Weight 143.6
CG Max day 50/50 - ab stuff that sucked, lateral raises, sissy and heel elevated squats, diamond and neutral cobra pushups, bicep curls - with two mile warmup walk. So that’s a wrap for Max. Great program. I have to decide whether to repeat it or move on to something else (still with Girvan) or back to Iron.
@ChickenLittle I’ve seen your mom’s food - she’s welcome to the party! Is she by any chance funny? That would be nice.
Yes, she was funny and fun as long as she was able.

Weight 143.9
Fast two mile walk with Louie. I should probably be wearing a weighted vest for these.
Sunday, Oct. 12
Weight 142.6
2.5 mile hike, average heart rate 132.
Nice.
Monday, October 13
A blustery 3 mile hike. The leaves are pretty much gone at higher elevation, which opens up the woods to view. Really nice out there.
Wednesday, Oct. 15
Weigh 144.4
CG Max day 1/50 - RDL, shoulder press, squats, flies, hip thrust, chest press - with 10 minute cardio warmup.
Thursday, October 16
Weight 145
Two mile walk with Louie. It went quick because I was freezing.
I’m wearing a pair of pants I was able to fit into last winter, but not as comfortably as today. That feels good.
No Indian Summer this year.
Friday, October 17
Weight 143.5
CG Max day 2/50 - rear step lunge, sweep, bulgarian lunge, rear delt fly, lateral raise, more stupid lunge for fun - with 15 minute/1 mile cardio warmup. I felt weak today, though I took days off last week. But I guess it happens.
I was too preoccupied with other things this week to log my thinking re programming and update my goals, but the end of a program I’ve been following since June probably deserves that for posterity. I’ve decided to repeat Max because the full body workouts lend themselves to a bit of frequency inconsistency, which I think is winner winner chicken dinner moving into the holidays. I’ll continue to shoot for 3 or 4 days a week, depending on recovery needs and scheduling, which is how I spent the summer. I would imagine I’ll go back to splits after the holidays along with increasing calories, and look to build strength.
I haven’t decided where to land with my cut. On the one hand I’m making progress so there is something to be said for continuing, following the “just get it done” school of thought, but on the other hand maybe I should take a break and aim to get myself stabilized before the holidays. Please feel free to weigh in!
@Friedrich, it was in the mid-20’s here this morning at 7! Yikes, I don’t think I’m ready! Especially as I’m now down 10 lbs of insulation.
How long have you been in a cut now? My initial thought is to have you lean into it and keep the momentum going through the first week of Nov. That should lend a couple more pounds gone, with time to bring up calories and stabilize before the holidays hit hard.
I’d say since June, or at least that’s when I began to have success. The GLP came onboard in July.
I think you’re right. I go to Pittsburgh next week and will stay on the medication through that and then plan do drop it the following week if my weight is good.
Sounds like a solid plan. That is a long time to cut, so with that timeline you could easily end it sooner. Give yourself a nice, long diet break. Use that extra fuel for keeping up with GC, holiday fun and winter insulation!
I’m going to be interested in seeing how dropping the medication affects things.
Me too! I’m anxious about it. I’ll probably half the dose and see what happens first.

Weight 142.7
2.5 mile hike with my homies.
Sunday, Oct. 19
Weight 143.5
Just over 3 mile walk with Louie, right at an hour with all the bathroom and sniffing stops. I take info from my Apple watch with a grain of salt, but it matches my experience, so…during today’s walk on a rolling country lane I only hit zone 2 for 38 seconds; the rest was zone 1. Whereas during yesterday’s hike I hit all five zones, including zone 5 for 35 seconds. (4 for 1:56, 3 for 4:45, 2 for 17:28 and the remainder z1…I don’t have a time for that because we stop and goof off a lot).
Anyway, my point? I guess is that elevation sucks, lol. Or doesn’t suck, depending on your viewpoint.
If you’re going to be in the 'Burgh this week, there are some nice steps & whatnot to get a good hike in.
Even one called Cardiac Hill! ![]()
