Emily's About-Time Training Log

CG Max day 3/50 - stability ball rollout, pullover, heel elevated squats, flies, bridge, upright row - with 15 min/1 mile cardio warmup.

I went clothes shopping yesterday, and as is my habit I had an iced mocha latte on the way there and the way back, a big twice-a-year treat, which turned out to be a mistake because I was awake until after midnight and then popped awake at 3:40 or so and have been up. But my paperwork is done and my workout in the books, so I suppose all is well that ends well. I have a client at 11, for which I need to go to the office.

Which I will be! We’re (they’re) planning hikes and walks and such, but more importantly, we’re going to have Thai food, Turkish food, all you can eat sushi, and as much of the other City Food as we can find time for (we’re only there for two days, Saturday and Sunday, driving Friday and Monday.

Louie will be with us, and they have a dog, so I’m looking forward to that. Four cats as well, which hopefully will be okay.

You’re coming to the right place then! There’s a fair bit of food.

Lots of that too! Pretty much where ever you’re at, there’s a rail/trail or county park nearby.

He seems like such a big cuddly good boy, I hope he’s a good cat dog.

I really hope you enjoy your time here.

I’m in! I have finally talked Jed into trying it. I think he would like it. Not serious sashimi or anything but like Cal rolls. Now… if we could just find a place. Oh wait, I live in the boondocks  There used to be a place about an hour away but I think they are closed now.

Can I join? I love all these things.

He IS such a cuddly good boy. I’m assuming the cats will be fine. For one thing, as son noted, they’re good at hiding and certainly have defenses. But more, Louie has never given any indication that he wants to be anything but friends with all living creatures. He has a prey drive, but is slow to notice his targets and quick to give up. I think he’d like to just sniff a cat very thoroughly and then maybe run his big move of scratching the dirt with all four paws. Here is a demonstration from when we boarded him:

He does this when we encounter people on trails as well. It reminds me of this:

You can! I really am ridiculous when I get near a city. There’s so much I can’t get to within a reasonable amount of time. An hour and a half opens us to a decent Thai place - we’ll hit it when we Christmas shop, but if we do then we can’t have the Italian that’s also there or the burrito place that that has a salsa bar. And I am, as I think we all know by now, VERY food-motivated. Ethnic in particular is not well-represented. What IS well-represented is farm-to-table and good meat and cheese, which I enjoy and am grateful to have. I live in a tourist area, so we have good quality food and nice vibes, but the grew-up-here contingent doesn’t really support spice, and we’re small enough that we need both the tourists and the locals onboard if a restaurant is going to survive.

My browser doesn’t support codec. A message I haven’t seen since windows 98, but I think I understand what you’re describing.

My neighbors dog loves the cats. But he’s a border collie, so all the cats must be protected by being herded under the neighbors shed. The cats do not love him nearly as much.

Its just a misunderstanding, really.

Also, I’d like to believe that Brandon Frasiers character there was modeled after some of my best moves. Its a given that if a female doesnt boop your cheeks when you poof them for a pfft, she’s not gonna mate.

CG Max day 4/50 - sumo squats, pushups, staggered RDL, arnold press, banded hip thrust, supine row - with short cardio warmup.

Louie has been learning to bark, and now barks pretty much the entire time I’m warming up. As soon as I start getting my stuff out for the workout, he starts getting HIS stuff out of the basket on the floor:

@Koestrizer, a question if I may: you posted a video in @simo74’s log a few weeks ago, during which you said “don’t worry about the cracking in your back; that’s just a bonus.” Would that hold true in general? Because I notice crazy crackling as I’m doing various things, with shoulder press being a good example. Am I worrying about this, or feeling pleased that my whole system is benefiting?

Hey @EmilyQ

So the part about it being a bonus was just my sense of humor because a lot of people seek out chiros, physios or orthopedic doctors to get that sensation through spinal manipulation therapy, haha (I could go into a long essay about this topic if I had the time, haha.).

BUT there is absolutely nothing to worry about if joints crack and pop!

The auditive phenomenon was mostly thought to actually just be a gas bubble, that is within a closed liquid filled space (the joint capsule) that bursts through overpressure or underpressure. Although more recent live imaging evidence suggests that the sound comes from the build up of caviation and not the collapse. Either way - it’s just a sound that has to do with the synovia filled capsule, gas and pressure.

It might surprise most people to learn that in most cases the cracking we hear has nothing to do with firmer tissues like the bones or ligaments.

There are some nuances to this in the presence of pathologies (like osteoarthritis) and post op presentation (in which joint cracking usually still is no issue) but the VAST majority of joint sounds is harmless and can be ignored as long as it is not accompanied by pain or limited function.

Excellent! Thank you - it totally feels like my entire upper back is…something…but now I’ll have to pay attention to see if it’s just noise rather than anything I’m actually feeling. No pain at all. Just a lot of…something. I can’t even pull into focus what it is now, even though it happened just yesterday, haha. I would have forgotten about it again until next time it happened, but I saw your name in Simo’s log this morning and remembered to ask.

Again, thanks! I love these boards so much.

You’re welcome.

Cracking of the joints in our spine is often accompanied by ‘a feeling’ and part of that is what makes spinal manipulation therapy “work” (although a small part, I might add, as other parts play a much bigger role here). These things have nothing to do however with the physiological structure of our spine/ bones/ joints.

The feeling/ sensation we get is more likely to be based on neuromodulation (especially if delivered from the outside) and influenced by what we associate with it.

Awesome. :+1:

Everyone is showering, so I have a minute.

So we’re in the north end, I’m told. The weather is perfect, and we had foliage for the entire drive, which was nice. Louie has been a champ, though he got smacked by one of the four cats last night. Poor baby, he was extremely butthurt about it.

Today is all you can eat sushi. Last night was Thai. (Deloading and refeeding, lol.)

CG Max day 5/50 - ab work, hammer, straight and wide bicep curls, tricep extension, lat raises, sissy squats, banded abduction and bridges, dips - with a 10 minute cardio warmup. This was another “wee fun day,” which falls on Friday if you follow her schedule, and I have to agree that it was pretty pleasant. A nice workout to get things rolling again after yesterday’s 13 hours in the car (and restaurants and walking Louie around parking lots).

The trip was outstanding in every way. Beautiful drive through the mountains in high foliage, excellent road trip food as a rare treat, no inflammation, and Louie was the best good boy ever, except for the couple of scuffles he got into with my son’s dog and four cats. Rufus, son’s dog, is about Louie’s size and completely opposite, personality-wise. He’s a grumbly old man, but also a relatively good sport. He growled quite a bit at Louie, but as Louie is deaf, it didn’t matter one bit to him - his enthusiasm was undampened, lol. One of the cats smacked him twice (though I don’t know if contact was actually made - there was no mark) and each time Louie became completely distraught and what can only be described as butthurt. However, that was the extent of it and by day two everyone was relaxed and hanging in the same room.

Pittsburgh food was yummy, Pittsburgh weather was lovely, we took multiple walks - also lovely - and will go back for sure.

Thats awesome. Really glad your trip to Tahn was good for everybody. The drive across the state on rt. 81 (if thats the route you took) is really exceptional this time of year.

And there’s tons more good city and walks food to be had too.
