Electronic Massage and Hypertropy

one of the christmas presents contained Dr Ho’s Muscle Therapy - a palm size device with with a pair of pads on a wire that that are kinda wet/sticky and attach to skin easily, basically when you turn it on it gives you an electronic massage with a varied tempo. I was kinda sceptical cuz in the manual, one of the uses is attaching one of those to your midsection for some “Abs toning” which is obviously BS. Altho a claim that it will increase blood circulation sounds logical. Also says it relieves muscle tension and whatnot

Im normally doing it cause it feels damn good after a back/trap workout, its kinda creepy when you place it on your mid traps your shoulders raise on their own and then suddenly drop.(weird in a sense of the feeling itself, rather than the logic behind the trap contraction)

Wondering what effect it might have in the long run ?

this thing is insane, i just put it on 4/5 power and while being completely relaxed(shoulders slooping, looking down etc), I end up looking at the ceiling with shrugged shoulders and mouth WIDE open.

Yup. Sounds legitimate.

Those things could have a place in recovery for those that are looking for the next thing to advance themselves, but if diet and training aren’t working already then focus should be put elsewhere.

HAAHAH very legit.

I think it’s meant to be used “down there”.

T.E.N.S /EMS (or myo-electrical stimulation) has been around a LONG time. There’s been a number of “muscle building machines” on the market for some time.

I’ve got a little cheap device that supports 8 pads and uses two 9v batteries.

(TWO of them for $35)
Only issue is, it uses rather square waves, so has the potential to induce pain. But I hate working abs, and this little bastard lets me do so while sitting on the couch…

If anyone is serious about getting a similar machine, look for one that “ramps” the current and generates as close to a sine wave as possible, or at least doesn’t generate square waves…

Here’s a link on pad placement:

eBay is a great place to buy pads and gel. Lots of therapists sell off their surplus. If your little device uses a “standard” pad connection I suggest you look for some of the larger, butterfly pads as they will really light you up…

Keeping good body contact is key - the pads will lose adhesion over time. Stronger machines can actually burn ya if the pads have air gaps. The gel (and required tape) is a mess, but certainly works… If you can afford it fresh pads are a lot cleaner.
