Eating for Early Morning Workout

Hey folks,
Am wanting to move my workouts to first thing in the morning and was wondering what the best way to go about a preworkout snack/meal is. I’m not very concerned with losing a lot of weight, strength is my main priority. I plan on eating premade breakfast burritos and a protein shake right after I workout, but wasn’t sure how to get the day started. My idea is Coffee, protein shake, and a handful of fruit.

Thoughts??

I find a protein shake on its own is enough for me. I don’t have much of an appetite in the morning.

I personally go protein shake → train → solid meal after.

^ Same. I lift right after waking up. Protein + gatorade then go lift.

Awesome. Is right in line with what I was thinking. Just wasn’t sure if that little of a snack would be considered a ‘fasted workout.’

I dunno, maybe it would be. Whether it is or not, it doesn’t affect my strength levels or anything like that. Actually feel better in the gym without a load of food in my stomach.

Protein shake & a handful of fruit certainly would not be considered as a fasted workout.

Plus if strength was my main priority, i wouldnt train fasted.

Am definitely not wanting to train fasted. Was wanting to make sure what I was planning was enough to get out of the fasted state.

I find fasting makes no difference to my strength level at all

Train fasted. Or use some MCT oil or coconut oil with half a scoop of whey isolate. If you keep insulin at bay you open the door for a large adrenaline spike first thing in the morning. Caffeine can help with this too. I usually have a cup of coffee first thing, then a tablespoon of MCT mixed with 10-15g of whey isolate and water. You’ll have a MUCH more intense workout doing this than if you introduce food.

^I have definitely noticed a quicker and more intense adrenaline spike when I train fasted, which is what I normally do.

I have not noticed a big difference with MCT oil, although I’ve tried it a few times and I’m sure I’ll try it again. I also use a scoop or two of MAG-10, but that’s more just to help pull some water in and because I’m addicted to MAG-10.

Pump quality and performance during fasted training are more related to your overall diet for the day or days leading up to the workout and how much pump and work capacity you’ve built up over time, in my opinion.

I train first thing in the morning and I take one serving of Plazma about 15 minutes before I train and one during. For more intense workouts I take three servings, one before and two during. I used to train fasted and I have improved since using Plazma.

could not agree more. If I eat 2 large dominos pizzas then train fasted the next day, I’ll have me a wicked pump.

I agree with both of you 100%. Nothing like it. And no rebound hypoglycemia either!
