Eastern USA SHW Champ Max Charles = WTF?

Frankly, I don’t really give a shit how much a BODYBUILDER lifts.

Years ago, Frank Zane (set aside your judgment of his size) said something that stuck with me (paraphrasing here): “I wish there were no numbers on the weights at the gym. Then we’d all go by feel. You grab a barbell or set of dumbbells. If it’s too light, grab a bigger set and get to work”.
Imagine that!

WAY too much arguing over a set of numbers.

There are scores of BB’ers better than Max Charles, there is no one in the world who has ever deadlifted that much weight.

Are you really bitching about this? What did you think would get talked about?
Max competed once on a whim because some guys at the gym pushed him to do it and won. No, that does not happen all that often and the guys it does happen to are often the ones who eventually stand above everyone else with proper training.

You are talking about a guy who did not train with Charles Glass. He trained himself and weighs 300lbs with abs and very lean as a result.

Yeah…I would think on a site where people share some of those goals that THIS would be the greater concern…but then, I have been guilty of randomly giving people too much credit.

Don’t get me wrong here, he is impressive as hell. However, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal that a guy with good genetics, 20+ years of training and AAS ends up looking like that, I really don’t.

Nearly every other bodybuilder started out the same way until they got noticed, what he’s done as far as bodybuilding is not unusual. His strength claims are beyond the realm of what is currently possible which is why that’s getting all the talk.

Iron Dwarf, stop playing the “he’s a BBer” card and therefore we can’t talk about his strength numbers. It’s a bull shit argument.

Bullshit. Most of these guys don’t come anywhere close to that until they have been trained professionally by someone else. The conditioning of this guy in that vid at what looks like over 300lbs is fucking RARE for someone who only competed one time on a whim.

Most of these guys aren’t coming anywhere near that. hell, it took Toney Freeman his entire fucking career to hit body weights like that and he was right in the middle of the game.

This is the bodybuilding forum. People in here talking shit about power lifting technique can eat Kai’s grapefruit because none of that shit makes sense at the level it has grown to.

Again, most of the people talking shit are NOT the ones who stand out in the gym physically.

You have jackasses calling him a LIAR because he said he doesn’t look at himself in the mirror because he took his shirt off for the camera…even when the vid itself has a long talk about how he wear gigantic sweatshirts all of the time.

People just want to talk shit…and I guarantee most of the ones doing it look like weekend warriors or newbs.

I hope it makes you feel special standing with them.

So you think it’s unusual for a tall, genetically gifted bodybuilder with 20 years of lifting experience and god knows how much AAS use to be a lean 270? That’s pretty sad, I’d say that makes you the hater.

Which guys ONLY started looking good after training with Charles glass or any other trainer for that matter. Guys spend a few months with these trainers and you say that’s the only reason they are big. I know your example will be that CG had dennis james switch to HS machines for chest, you’re saying his chest sucked before that? No. He was already fucking huge, he just refined his physique.

Against whom? You are trying too hard. Mid terms coming up got you stressed?

Yeah, weighing 270lbs at your first contest is seen every fucking day, huh?

Care to list them?

I didn’t say that was the only reason they are big. I said most of these guys are not at THAT level of size without at least some professional training. They also usually have a much longer term in bodybuilding by that point.

It usually takes the taller guys longer to fill out…that is why I brought up Toney Freeman.

Don’t forget to list all of those guys hitting over 270lbs at their first contest and WINNING the damn thing as well.

Um, I’ve been lifting 6 years if I held off on competing and lifted another 14 years you really don’t think I could weigh 270 lbs my first contest?

Dude is old as fuck, most guys don’t wait that long so using him as an example of how rare coming in at that weight is doesn’t make a lot of sense. All it is is time.

Do you think YOU are some genetic anomaly because if you competed right now you’d come in MUCH heavier than a guy in his mid 20’s at a similar height?

I mean damn, if you competed right now you’d be heavier than Victor and Kai were at their first contests, so you are clearly destined to be one of the top 10 bodybuilders in the world, right?!
waylanderxx wrote:

We are speaking in hypotheticals now? Well…what if you get hit my an asteroid on your way to the gym on your 19th year of training?

BOOM, hypothetical crash and hospital stay along with massive hospital bills…but hey, they can rebuild you…they have the technology. They have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man; better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster…

I am not a genetic anomaly. I worked too hard for this shit to blame some massive genetic freak sequence in my DNA.

I am also not over 300lbs with veins on my abs.

Oh, and still waiting on that list of ALL of the guys who win their first time out who make this seem to ordinary.

Your also aren’t as tall as him. You probably missed this since I edited my post after you posted.

If you competed right now you’d be heavier than Victor and Kai were at their first contests, so you are clearly destined to be one of the top 10 bodybuilders in the world by this logic, right?

I still don’t see why you think it’s so crazy that a guy in his 30’s (probably closer to 40) wins a contest his first time out?

Random fact since this is related… at Vince Gironda’s gym he had no numbers on the dumbbells, only letters. A, B, C etc for this exact reason.

True…and the bottom line is, bodybuilding is NOT powerlifting. Most bodybhuilders, unless also competing in strength sports, could care less about meeting some perfect textbook powerlifting form.

What matters is if what you are doing works for you.

No, it’s full of Polumbo. Polumbo knows full well what he is doing and how it will be received. He gets off on it because it leads to more views on his website.

Max who? allow me to introduce to you to …

That other thread was just starting to get good.
