Hope everyone had a great 4th. Weather was gorgeous up here in Michigan.
Headed to the farm to pick wild black raspberries, they’re soooo good, and the blueberries are in as well. First though, a little time at the gym.

Great work DZ. Do you do your skullcrushers to your forehead or just over the top of your head? Does it seem to stress your elbows?

Thanks LS, I like to bring the bar down to the forehead
So what, mechanically, is different between sumos and conventional. I know folks say it takes stress off of the lower back. Does it target different muscles or switch the focus?
Have you gone to see anyone about the shoulder yet? Doesn’t sound like it’s getting any better on it’s own. If there’s an upside to this your back is getting some great workouts and looking real strong.

Oh yeah. Sumo deads work the squattin’ muscles more than conventional and the adductors a LOT more. Easier on the low back due to increased back angle relative to the floor, so less shear stress.

I think it’s helping me pull without trying to use too much back into it. I’m told I use too much back when I pull, and that’s probably what’s keeping me from hitting some serious numbers.
With the sumos I can really feel the power coming from, well, where it’s supposed to, not the back. Seems to be getting easier the more I do them. These next few weeks will tell, I’ve got a short cycle of dead training for the meet in August. In a few days I’ll pull 6 sets of 4 reps at 80%-325lb.

Hel320, I’m gonna have to do that. There’s a lot of stuff I’ve been unable to do, and I’m missing it all. I’ll admit, I’m a little concerned if time isn’t healing it up, that surgery might be in order. That’ll mean time off work etc that I may not be able to pull off. I think I’ll get in soon and see what the doctor says though.

DZ, DCA - Thanks. I may give those a try at some point. The heavy rack pulls are starting to wear on me a bit. Is one better than the other as far as how much weight can be lifted? Or is that really on an individual basis?

You’ll probably pull more doing rack pulls since you’re not pulling it off of the ground.
I am currently rotating conventional and sumo. Doing the sumos is helping me get stronger all around, but my pull in sumo is generally about 100lbs less than conventional.
