DW's Pull Progress

Why do so many people recommend I focus on my lockout strength when that’s what I’ve been doing for a while with the rack pull. It’s even in the pull progress video. The 500x1 from below my knees (second clip in the progress vid) was good in my eyes because there was no hitching or ramping.[/quote]

For a good lock out, try bringing your head up(you have that down) chest out, and shoulder blades flat to the back.

Over the years a LOT of people have given DW constructive criticism, me included. Did he ever listen?? NO!!

All you guys giving good advice to DW, stop. He doesn’t listen, never did, never will.

If anything, we give constructive criticism and DW is an asshole. No point helping, DW knows best! Read the old threads and you’ll see DW’s responses to experienced PL advice. Not very polite in some cases.

That was the reason for me criticising even thought his improved lifts were good, because i did read his old threads.

Yeah, I need to try to put my chest out. I also need to bring my hips a little lower at the start of the pull too.

But his more recent posting style has changed considerably, it shows growth whereas the other people here haven’t. Is that what you want? You want DW to be known as someone that can grow and mature but you aren’t?

Impress yourself.

I just found out Diesel lives in my neighborhood and goes to my brother’s college!

I agree with most here that the form needs work, here’s a few tips to help you with your lockout:

  1. Speed DL’s against Bands

  2. Band Assisted DL’s

  3. Rack Pulls from just below the Knee Caps (Not Mid Shin or above the caps)

  4. Speed Work (50-60% for 8-12 singles) if not already doing so.

You may have to lighten up the weight, and really concentrate on pulling all the way through to lockout. Your hitching could also be psychological as it seems you have been struggling with this type of thing for awhile. Cut yourself some slack, be honest with yourself and fix what you need to fix. I have found with experience and great success with Westside Protocol to bring up the main lift, you dont necessarily have to train the main lift, variations there of get the job done faster.

Honestly for a guy your size and weight to even break the ground is pretty good. Just keep the ego in check and train smart, as i have heard previously stated in this thread is that it only takes one bad rep and your lifting days are compromised. No need suffering a bad injury for lack of attention to something as simple as form. Thats it, keep up the hard work…

some good mornings would definitely help you. They helped me with that last few inches in locking out.

First off, DW, that’s some great improvement you’re showing. Are the lifts looking perfect? No, but they are getting pretty damn sharp considering your bodyweight and training goals.

One thing you may want to try on your pulls, deads especially, is to focus on pushing the floor away with your feet while holding onto the bar instead of pulling the bar off the floor. Also, watch your cleans. It looks like you are bending your arms way before you hit full extention. Remember, “once the arm bends, the power ends”. This was a problem I really had to work on. Tommy Kono said that for every lift you perform incorrectly, you need to perform 3 times with perfect form to erase. Trust me, that adds up fast, and often with interest.

Keep up the hard work.

Can someone post some video’s of people pulling with good form in this thread? That may help everyone see how the lift should be performed and give everyone another example to critique.

Check out the thread 275x10 in this same forum with the 114lbs lady pulling.

I didn’t want to start another thread, so I’m hijacking this one.

I almost had to hit a kid in the gym today. He wanted to spot me on my deadlifts. I’m pulling and he comes up behind me, reaches around and puts one hand on my chest and one on my lower back. I dropped the weight, turned around and shoved him back about 10 feet. I swear to god, he looks at me and says, “yea bro! you almost had it!”

I cooled off and explained to the idiot that he is an idiot and that he will eventually get killed touching people who don’t want to be touched.

That was my first thought, too. He was just an idiot. Said he was on his high school powerlifting team and the coach had them spot each other like that. Then he said they all deadlifted sumo, so I don’t know how that would work. Later he was sitting around hitting on the little high school hotties, so I’m pretty sure he wasn’t sneaking up to mount me. Anyway, it was the first time I’ve ever been offered (forced)a spot while deadlifting.

I never experienced that before and sorry about that, but how is that relevant to the topic?

Are you serious?
Just like this thread, my story has deadlifting, a pretty clueless youngster, possible homosexual overtones, and douche-baggery.

How old are you?

BTW, douche-baggery is actually not supposed to be hyphenated.

I once had a huy try to spot me. On squats. From the front. I got scared and told him to get behind me. then cut the set short and said my knee hurt.
