His came practically down to his knees and he can put the straps up and down with ease. Mine is a bit too small now, but when it fit right it came down maybe 3 inches from the crease of my hip and it took my training partner practically picking me up off the ground to get the straps up all the way.

I use a Metal Squatter, not Metal Deadlifter and in the videos, you saw my compression shorts on my lower thighs, not the suit.

I doubt a metal squatter gives you anything unless you pull sumo.
I hate repeating myself:

The Metal IPF Squatter which I use is designed for narrow stance squats and conventional deadlifts. The Metal IPF V-Type Squatter is designed for wide stance squats and sumo deadlifts.

Oh, someone did mention a cover of ‘Have a Drink on Me’. Did we ever resolve who did that?
Six Feet Under did the cover of AC/DC - Have A Drink On Me.

Ugh, I work for Elite and the metal deadlifter is for conventional and the squatter is designed for sumo.

If you get somethign out of it great, but I would recommend a deadlifter over a squatter for conventional pulling.

edit, iIforgot put another friend and elite lifter likes the matal ipf squatter for deads. He’s elite and has tried a few things. So if it works for you, great. If you have extra cash, you might want to try the deadlifter.

You’re showing great progress, so keep up the work. Get that form dialed in a little better.

Those were pretty decent sumos. Work on speeding up your setup and notice on the last lift how you started with a rounded upper back… keep hitting heavy rows to get your upper back stronger as it will help your lockout.

And one more thing DW, why not hit 6 singles with 430, rather than one with 455? Have you ever tried a different rep scheme than max singles?

I say this because I trained the exact same way for a few years and progressed alot more once I learned about russian training percentages.

Yeah, I do 3x3 with other exercises, like bench press, squat and clean+press. I also did the Coan/Phillipi deadlift routine, late last year and earlier this year which had me doing a lot of low rep, speed sets.

I did max effort singles in that sumo video to see where I stand with my sumo deadlift strength. I was also damn close to getting 475 after 455, so I’m going to lock out that bitch, next week. After that, I might do 3x3 or something similar with the sumo deadlift.

You didn’t get that 475 sumo because you started with a rounded back and started at the bottom, straighten your legs and then shoot your hips down explosively as you start the lift so you don’t lose all of the stretch reflex.

Thanks for the tip.

Thick looking back there mate, good work.

Also, some of those recent vids are pretty solid, you’ve made a great improvement. Anyone bitching that your form isn’t perfect is an idiot, it’s not dangerous (anymore) and you’re getting some good weights up.

You flamers should go and download some vids of PL record lifts, often what you see won’t even closely resemble perfect form. DW’s lifts aren’t world records, but they’re heavy PB attempts so same difference.

BTW, what’s your bench like these days DW? You’re about my weight, so just curious. Just PM me if you don’t wanna post it up here.

Thanks.

My bench press is terrible. I did three sets of 195x2 recently. My last PR with the clean and press was 185x1 !! There’s something wrong with that, right? I should be using a lot more weight with the bench press compared to my clean and press unless I’m mistaken.

Yeah your bench should be a fair bit heavier, unless you have had proper olympic training/coaching. Guys who primarily o-lift will often (but not always) have a bigger clean than their bench.

I’m thinking that maybe you should prioritise your bench training a bit?

Do you have a link to a good bench program on the web?

I’ve used a sort of wave-loading on the bench, it was pretty successful but not really a specific program. Goes sort of like this:

Current 5RM of 102.5kg:

Week 1: Work up to 5 reps of 100kg
Week 2: Work up to 4 reps of 102.5
Week 3: Work up to 3 reps of 105
Week 4: Work up to 5 reps of 102.5
Week 5: Work up to 4 reps of 105
Week 6: Work up to 3 reps of 107.5
Week 7: Work up to 5 reps of 105

I bench twice a week now though, so don’t know how you’d work that in. Probably just do a high-rep or DE day or whatever. Just google wave loading and see what comes up, I can’t remember where I found it.

Other than that I’ve never used a specific bench program, just basic old-school powerlifting programs by people like Bill Starr, Joe Kenn etc.

http://bighouse77.tripod.com/TierSystemTraining.html

You can use that system to prioritise your bench, read the whole thing (it takes a while) and you should be able to structure your own sorta bench-priority program off one of the templates.

If you like westside-style training then just go to elitefts and look up some of their bench articles. I tried westside, and went steadily backwards for 6 weeks before giving it away, didn’t work for me at all. Don’t take that as a diss on it though, seems to do wonders for everyone but me.

Thanks.

No worries.

A good bench article.
