Just got caught up on a bunch of your log man. Not entirely certain of the context of your family and relocation issues, but it sounds like you’re handling it with maturity and composure. Kudos brotha, and keep it up.

The shittest thing about being your age is that most of your major decisions are made by other people, and even though they have your best interests at heart, they don’t always get it right.

The best thing about being your age is that soon you will have complete, absolute freedom to do whatever the fuck you want and no one can tell you to do a damn thing you don’t want to (except for when you need money; it’s called having a job and it sucks but you won’t get far without it).

It sucks just now but ride it out. You’ll be fucking sick of hearing people tell you that things will be different when you’re older but they will be. For now you just have to deal with certain decisions being out of your hands. It’s not forever.

Boarding school might not be as bad as you think. Keep an open mind. I went from age 13 to 17. It worked out pretty well. You’re doing well through all this Duke.

Ha I train at a pretty nice gym now and that’s still what I use 90% of the time… There is a selection of nice looking bars now though.

That’s tough Duke but you seem to be handling it really well.

This can be rough but having a routine/s, which boarding school seems to have plenty of (or at least in my experience) can really help keep things grounded and make day to day interaction a bit easier.. Or it did for me.

Duke I’m really sorry I can’t offer much more in the way of advice but I really hope the situation improves for you mate.

Try and keep your chin up Duke, it sucks while adults are making your decision, but as others have said, it will get easier when you can get a job and guide your future a little bit.
As for a little shitty gym, thats all you need mate, I’ve done 95% of my lifting at home with a power rack, plates, bench and barbell, less than the little gym will have, just be creative.

As everyone has already said you are handling this very well and as I said before I hope it gets better soon. Even if you don’t behave any weights when you are at your dads don’t stop training. Your dad says lift rocks and although he may not be being serious it’s actually not that daft. At your age you can still stay strong doing all sorts of body weight stuff, push ups, pull ups, dips, sprints, rocks over your head, logs over head, rock lateral raises, squats, broad jumps, throws etc etc you get the idea. You have years and years to lift weights so take this as an opportunity to work on conditioning and explosive strength, you will find when you do get the gym again your gains will come thick and fast.
Keep your chin up and stay positive.

My school does have a massive boarding house, and all the guys there are super close. It might not be awful, as Mark said.

Also, most school gyms do at least have a rack, bar and bench. A lot of the ones I’ve seen are used by rugby/track/whatever teams that use weights. I think you’ll be able to get back on track.

During your holidays though training will be hard. I think your dad does have a point about rocks though, especially if you’re looking at strongman. The heat will be a total bitch.
There’s a book I’ve heard about called Dinosaur Training that I think deals with training outside. I also know Dan John wrote a free eBook From the Ground Up that deals with just barbell training. Finally, there’s a set of articles here on TN that are called something like 3rd world training or 3rd world workouts. Hopefully they could give you some inspiration. Yeah definitely man, cant wait till im an adult. Im at that stage where i can look after myself and dont need to be controlled but i have some years of school left till i can get a serious job and look after myself.

@I_Luc thanks man. Cant wait till im older and Well before i hsd access to a nice commercial gym i was stuck with a smith machine and some other stuff at my old towns gym. It worked plenty for packing on mass and strength. Just will miss all the fancy stuff lol.

Dinosaur Training is more about old-school training for strength and mass than outdoor training, but it’s still a great book.

Hi Duke visiting your log, you asked why i didn’t have one.
Well thanks to you i might start one in the new year.

Have been reading briefly through.

When reading through your log, I got quite amazed. You’re really well spoken and well aware about your situation. And you handle it so very well.

I have 2 kids 17 and 20 years. The older went for a year in US high school after primary school. The young one is now at a boarding school for a year. He has a mild kind of ADHD and has difficult time making new friends.
He absolutely loves boarding school. BUT then again it’s only for one year, and it was a decision we made together.

So can’t really compare to your situation. But boarding school doesn’t sound that crazy. You can be with your mum or dad and when things get rough, you can go back to school and recover.

Have you been to the boarding school to check it out?

Training has been good to you. I guess you use the sessions to get your mind together and that you feel secure when training. It’s one part of life where you have control, so keep doing it.
When shit hits the fan, and you are at a place without equipment then do bodyweight stuff, hell even lift a rock and do some overhead squats with that, or throw the damn thing as long as you can.

I wish you a safe and happy new year, and I hope life will threat you kind in 2018, you deserve that.

Im glad to hear it is working out for him at boarding school!. Idk i hope boarding school goes ok for me if thats the ultimatum i end up having to have. Also i havent checked it out.

I never really thought about it that way but yeah, i love how i have control over how i train.

Hey man try and stay positive. Attitude trumps situation 99% of the time.

Also consider ordering a sandbag, cerberus has one for i think 50 USD. (I guess that’s like 10 kangaroo paws? I’m unfaniliar with the currency exchange).
You can get a lot of good training in with a sandbag!

Just found a cool as fuck gym two hours from me ( am at the area for a few days) so will go to it for a session or two before i go back to dads. Its a powerlifting gym, Havent trained in weeks so will be good.
