Hello all you weightlifters!
I have a genuine question for you all. It is no big deal really, but I am just curious as to why this habbit exist.
When a weight lifter does a heavy single or a heavy set, he sometimes dumps the bar right to the ground instead of walking it back into the rack. I take it that the plates, the bar and the platform can take the impact, but unless you are kind of lazy and want to do something like deadlifts or heavy clean and jerks after your squats, what’s the point of dropping the bar behind you instead of walking it 2-4 steps back into the stand/rack?
Is it the badass effect? Like it is cool to drop it and hear the sound when it hits the ground. I can understand young immature lifters doing this, as small dogs always barks loudly, but experienced mature lifters still do this I guess, so why do they do it.
I heard somebody say that it is a habbit for weightlifters to drop the bar at the end of their workouts. Does anybody know why it is so?
Of course the weight must be dropped after a snatch or after a c&j, but why drop it after a front squat or after a back squat ?
If you have a squat stand or rack, I believe most of the time it is easier to get the plates off the bar when the bar is in it’s rack. I’ve seen many different squat stands, so it might not always be so, but why make it more difficult for oneself to take the plates off the bar when it is on the ground, of course you can just slide a small plate under the innermost plate to get the outermost plates off quickly.
Does anyone know who invented this habbit, and how and why it is practised today?
I realize some weightlifters can be upset about this, but there’s no reason to be, drop the weights all you want, I just wonder why you do it!!
