Just wondering how many of you guys drink on a regular basis… maybe its just me imagining but i find if i drink for like a week after my training realy sucks… can’t get a pump, my numbers r down a bit and just feel a lil off …that being said the bigest guy i know is drunk about 3 or 4 days a week… maybe i’m just a wuss… anyone else have any trouble after a good weekend
I rarely ever have a drink (maybe one or two a year) because I’ve never had a reason to drink. I don’t need it to have fun, and I’m also very much into a “healthy” lifestyle and drinking doesn’t fit into my plan. Not to mention that I’d rather spend money on food (since I’m always freakin’ hungry).
However, a couple of friends got me a drink this past weekend. It was a Jager shot (I hate the taste of black licorice, and I really didn’t want it). But I swear it was equal to three shots. They put it in a plastic cup and filled about 1/3 of the cup. And that one damn shot tore me up! I couldn’t believe how quickly it hit me and how much more relaxed it made me. Even my arms and legs got all tingly. Unlike others, I was able to stop there and not suffer any negative side effects (especially training).
Drinking alcohol drops your testosterone level dramatically.
And that’s what makes you a wuss.
Considering that alcohol is one of the best testosterone suppressants known, anybody that is spending money on testosterone improvements should avoid alcohol.
I got drunk this weekend and could only squat 395 instead of 405.
And I did naked backflips off the roof into the pool, but I guess that’s pretty irrelevant actually…
I got drunk this weekend too. Twice. It was a lot of fun.
Come on dude, you know drinking is bad for lifting. I know it is too, but I’m not gonna spend my 20’s telling my friends that I can’t play beer pong because I’m afraid my T will be 20% lower the next day…
got_beer?
I’m with got_beer, personally I don’t think that lifting should interfere with my social life to that extent. There are some things I’m willing to give up, and others I’m not.

I don’t drink much anymore, but when I do I am usually scheduled to do something strenuous the next day like mountain biking 15 miles or hit the gym and I don’t know what it is, but I have the best ride or workout of my life… maybe because I feel guilty and just push myself harder… even with that I don’t make drinking a habit. (anymore)
Shit, I was hoping for tips on blasting back some shooters before hitting the gym…
i find i can handle it as long as i dont get obliterated.
if u can remember the night ur ok
It’s like anything else… moderation. Yes ethanol kicks up aromatase, turining some of one’s T into estrogen. But this is just something to keep in mind as part of “informed consent”, eh?
I was even in a study once where they got half of us hammered on vodka and had us run downhill the next morning from 7:00-8:00 or so. Ugh. The result was variable but potentially higher CK (“tissue damage”) over a subsequent day or two. (And a vow never to volunteer for that researcher again!)It was concluded that perhaps one shouldn’t train hard the morning after… …shocking.
I have the weekends off from heavy training, so that gives me plenty of time to drink beer. I find it’s usually the lack of sleep and lack of food that kills me, not the booze.
Moderation.
You had it right Lonnie.
I think you can play ALITTLE but still be hard core with diet and training. Unless it doesnt fit in the goals for that time period
